A list of puns related to "Sung Tongs"
I was at my local record store today, and in the 20% off box, they had Feels and Sung Tongs for $24. I make myself buy just one record at a time, so I won't go broke lol. I ended up picking Feels. I discovered Animal Collective in a skateboarding video (Jason Dill's part in Alien Workshop's "Mind Field"), and I dove right into their discography, working backward from Merriweather. Feels was an instant obsession at first listen back then, so I had to grab it today. If you were there, which would you choose and why?
TL;DR: Went to record store. Chose Feels over Sung Tongs. Which would you pick?
Edit: I love you all, and I just went back and bought Sung Tongs π
I love Sung Tongs. I love how it uses acoustic guitars in such a unique and creative way, and I love the vocal style and use of percussion. But I feel like the last 3 songs have a significant drop in quality. Itβs like they abandoned all of the things that made the rest of the album so great. Itβs really disappointing to me because it had potential to be a 10, but I have a hard time rating it above an 8 because of the ending. Anyone else feel similarly?

Hey! I've really gotten into Freak Folk this past year but I feel like I've reached an impasse. I really love the tribal/very manic aspects of these albums and others but I feel like I can't find more that meet that niche. If you know any good artist or albums please let me know! Thanks (Also any Caribbean folk music would be great :)

Especially some of the tracks on Record 1 Side B, some Microphones and Tongs vibes going on.
Avey solo appreciation thread!
Alright.
I saw a very complex paragraph structured post on this in the past. There seemed to be different tunings for different songs and even different tunings for avey and panda.
But can someone do a song for song breakdown. Or do a couple songs. The tuning. And then the exact strings and frets for the chords being played.
I remember going back to that post and just scratching my head every time.
Could someone enlighten us all about Sung tongs tunings. Or like I said. Maybe a very meticulous breakdown of like 3 songs.
I feel like there are a lot of folks who would be infinitely grateful.
Thanks in advance.

Specifically the guitar seen in the live shows around 2004. Looking to get an acoustic and want one closest to what they have, but donβt know the brand and model, anything helps thanks.

Tongs like the tool? Why tongs? Why are they sung?
I bought it on vinyl in August 2020 and I listened through it once and only two tracks stuck out (literally the opener, Leaf Hotel and the closer, Whaddit I Done) but I was looking through this sub and I kept seeing a lot of people talking about other tracks and my friend kept telling me he wanted to cover one of the songs with his band so I decided to give it a relisten and holy FUCK this album is good. The nearly-exclusively acoustic production was a major turn off, but it works absolutely perfect with the effects Avey and panda's voices have in some tracks, as well as the samples. Holy fuck the samples. Mouth Wooed Her, Who Could Win a Rabbit, Winters Love, We Tigers, College are all 10/10s. This is what I look for in a folk album, this is seriously some good fucking music right here

Hello there!
I was browsing vinyls online when I stumbled on these two articles: https://www.juno.co.uk/products/animal-collective-sung-tongs/824750-01/ https://www.juno.co.uk/products/animal-collective-feels/824749-01/
They seem to be hinting that Feels and Sung Tongs are getting re-released on vinyl? I found similar info here: https://elusivedisc.com/animal-collective-feels-lp/ https://elusivedisc.com/animal-collective-sung-tongs-lp/
Does anyone have more information regarding these re-releases? Are we gearing up for an official announcement, or have I missed it?
Exciting times anyway!
I love sung tongs, my second favourite AC album, but does anyone think the sequencing of the tracklist is a little random? You've got two relatively high energy tracks followed up by one of the slowest and most gentle to start things off, Sweet Road seems like it should set up something fast, not Visiting Friends, We Tigers kind of gets buried, and three pretty similar songs at the end make a pretty anticlimactic finale.
Here's how I would do redo it, let me know any other ideas

I'm looking to grab these two albums if anyone is interested in selling. Not sure exactly what else to type here but there is a minimum word count requirement. Title says it all.
How can an album be so perfect, so beautiful? How Animal Collective makes their music so incredibly good, each album a wonderfully different and cathartic experience, I will never know. I do know, however, that Sung Tongs is one of the most beautiful, incredible albums I've ever heard. On my first listen, I was blown away. I put the album on while I was still in bed, planning to listen to it as I got up, but less than a minute into the first song I collapsed back onto my pillow and smiled. I knew it was about to be incredible. I've loved every other Animal Collective album so far, but Sung Tongs elicited a strong and cathartic reaction that I've really only gotten from a handful of my favourite albums. The great thing about Sung Tongs too is that, like Campfire Songs, I think it is a very replayable album. Some of the the other Animal Collective albums so far, such as DM, Ark, and Hollinndagain, while being pretty awesome albums, with a great experience, and have some songs I loved and have been listening to a lot, don't have the replayability that I think ST will have. I added several of the songs to some of my playlist and have been listening to the album on repeat for a few hours now, and it's still so so good. On both of my first two listens, the album had me on the verge of tears with its beauty by Winters Love. This album was incredible, probably sporting some of the best vocals and usage of vocals on any album I've heard, the lovely instrumentals comprised mainly of strummed acoustic guitars and distant drums that I struggle to describe (I keep having the urge to call them jungle drums, as they give off the feeling of being in a jungle, but I know that this is subjective and doesn't actually describe them very well).
Leaf House, ST's opener set the scene for the album. Animal Collective would be switching styles, relying on acoustic guitars, bongo-sounding drums and unbelievably beautiful vocals to carry shorter, more structured songs. The experimentalism and general oddities of the previous Animal Collective were far from forgotten though, as could be seen in the album's opening song - it ends with several "meow"s repeated over slightly distorted recordings of "kitty!" over and over again. The vocals were strange and animalistic at times too, which was part of what I loved about them and the band, so I was glad that they were still present from the first song onwards. There are several songs on ST that are short, sub-three minute songs, which were
... keep reading on reddit β‘Can anyone explain to me the mic and processing set up? Looks like they each have a dry mic and an FX mic. And are the guitars direct? How much bleed do think is going into their vocal mics?
I'm kind of confused about the recording process for this album. I remember reading somewhere that it was recorded with no effects but there are parts that clearly sound like effects were used
Would love to have a good aud or soundboard recording of the show my brother and I finally got to see our heros together. We both bought posters together and his got a little ruffled. When he said he was bummed about it I pointed out that the banner that they unfurled that matched the poster was perfectly ruffled on stage in the exact same way that his poster was damaged. They hang together in one frame.
I know many people on this sub want to get feels but sung tongs first press isnβt too hard to come by so Iβm testing my luck. Donβt have too much too trade for but might have one or two things you want. Thanks guys
I bought the vinyl for this album about 2 months ago, and its a really good album. The only problem with it is that the one I bought only has side 1/2, and another copy. Any suggestions?
It was an amazing 4D Amazonian experience. I started crying at the beginning because it sounded so good, and started laughing my ass off when Avey says βHeβs got books to help you with your lifeβ in Kids on Holiday. And for some reason I was getting rain forest vibes from the album which I never have before so that was interesting. Avey and Panda were my shamans guiding me through the magical landscape with dark rivers, bugs, and vertically stretching clowns, and other things I canβt even describe or remember too well. Anyways, Iβm curious to hear other peopleβs have psychedelic experience with this album in particular?
