I'm looking to purchase a Crosstrek base with a 2.0l CVT engine (2.5l is out of budget). I live in Denver and plan on using the car to take frequent weekend trips to mountain/ski towns. What's it like driving a Crosstrek in mountainous/high elevation environments? Does the "underpowered" engine create a questionably safe driving experience in that environment or is it just unpleasant noise?
The Subaru crosstrek was originally the car Iβve been planning to get as my next car for years now. I originally chose the Subaru because I wanted a vehicle that was a good reliable daily driver that could also get through snow and drive on the local beaches where I live. Iβm sure a lot of other people here have considered a crosstrek since it's one of its main competitors so I figured it would be useful for anyone who wanted to know what I found between the two driving them back to back.I priced out a Subaru crosstrek sport with the 2.5l 182hp engine which is the only option that I want and came to about 28k. An XLT maverick with the FX4, 4k tow, and lux package came to a little over 30k The interior of the Subaru definitely felt more refined but I canβt say it was necessarily better. (The Crosstrek I would have to say is overall a little more sporty and a notch over other competing entry level vehicles but still nothing revolutionary). The Maverick while again not really anything revolutionary or particularly impressive, it felt like there was more thought put into the layout and design to try and set itself apart from competitors. Some people may like it and other may not it is what it is. I actually prefer the maverick interior because itβs unique and not just some generic sedan but some people may prefer the more sedan oriented interior of the Crosstrek. One of the bigger factors with the interior is that I have a couple back issues so seat comfort and legroom is very important to me and the Mavericks felt like I was sitting in a suv/truck but drove closer to a crossover/car whereas the Subaru felt like a car moreso than a crossover. This is really the main reason I'm even getting a new car (I previously had a 2013 Buick Verano and while I loved it and was overall a good car, the seats were not very comfortable for long trips) The interior room is also very similar but when you compare the bed and many storage compartments versus the hatchback, the maverick clearly has way more room overall and is much more versatile in what it can transport. The Mavericks infotainment and sound system is also not as complex and refined but it gets the job done.
As far as the ride, the Subaru again felt a little more car like. It was overall a little quieter and drove slightly better. I'd say really the biggest difference is that the engine of the Maverick is whinier and there is a little more wind noise in the cabin. The X mode of the Subaru is comparable to the fx4
... keep reading on reddit β‘Hi! I own a 2016 Subaru crosstrek and I have been having an issue with my heat. When it gets colder than -20 my car wonβt warm up fully. The windshield defrost gets warm but if I try to switch it to my feet and windshield it blows cold air. Anything warmer than -20 itβs fine. Anyone who owns this car experiencing the same thing? Or anyone got any idea whatβs going on? No I do not have a grill cover, I have been searching for one.
I'm looking to upgrade the stock sound system on my '21 Crosstrek Sport, which works, but is nothing to write home about. My main gripe is that it sounds muddy and can sometimes play high frequencies in a fatiguing way. I've thought about doing a large scale overhaul by replacing the head unit, dash/front speakers (not too concerned with rear door speakers), and installing an under-the-seat sub. However, the head units that seem to provide the features I'm looking for are all of the floating screen kind. Until I find a unit that can integrate seamlessly into the space available in our Crosstreks, I'm inclined to keep the stock head unit despite its known flaws. In the meantime, I'm close to pulling the trigger on replacement front door speakers (component), power amp, and sound deadening material to place on all 4 doors.
Please provide feedback on the following speakers and amp options:
Speakers
Amp
Open to other suggestions. Max budget is 1k, but ideally options in the $500-$600 range for front speakers & amp.
I own a 2015 Subaru cross track. 4 warning lights seemingly come on at random. The 4 lights are the hill assist, traction control, at oil temp, and ABS light. whenever I bought the car I fixed a few things on it (rebuilt the front end) and wiped all trouble codes. This problem was happening before though. But after I wipe the trouble codes it went a whole month without flashing any warning lights. Then right as it gets colder, lights again. Itβs throwing a solenoid Circuit error (P0971).
I was wondering if anyone had experience fixing this and where I should start. Or if one part is to blame. It seems to be a pretty well-known code Iβm just wondering if I can pin down the issue a bit more.
Transmission feels completely normal when lights come on. No problems with it. Itβs been happening whenever I slow down at a swift pace recently. But also came on when I was accelerating, in the past. However, The car doesnβt feel any different.

My side mirror blinkers (on the mirrored side) went out. I use to clearly see them flash when I turned but now theyβre only visible on the outside to oncoming drivers. This isnβt super important but annoying. I took the mirror off but didnβt see a bulb and didnβt want to mess with it too much. Anyone know how to change these bulbs?
Or is that the Forester?
They have both these bad bois at factory pricing at Lehman Subaru in sunny Miami Florida and Iβm moving to Denver in a week.
Help me choose the Subaru that will make my Floridian ass invincible in all winter conditions!!!!
This would be my first car! Iβm in my 20s. I would probably buy new because the used cars <10 years old in my area are more expensive than the new cars on the lot.
I would love to spend less than $25,000.
I spend a lot of time in the Great Lakes region (cold and icy) as well as the DMV area. I want a car that I could take camping and on long road trips, but I donβt do off-roading.
Preferences:
All I really care about is gas mileage, longevity, and resell value/cost of repairs.
My dad (who would go with me to buy the car) wants me to have a car with all wheel drive (even though weβve driven civics and corollas for years and never get stuck in the snow lol).
My dad wants me to buy the Subaru Crosstrek or the Honda CR-V, because other car brands are βcrapβ according to him and he doesnβt want me to test drive them lol (heβs not paying though so itβs ultimately my choice).
I also wanted to look at the Mazda CX-30 Honda HR-V Toyota C-HR Kia Seltos Volkswagen Taos Hyundai Kona
What car would you get off of this list/a car not on this list that is similar?
Any warnings or bad experiences with any of the cars Iβve mentioned?
Any cars you would immediately cross off the list?
Thanks!!!
Hello all,
We came across a rebuilt 2021 Subaru Crosstrek with 28k miles, listed for 18k on Facebook Marketplace.
Pictures of the previous damage: https://stat.vin/cars/JF2GTHSC3MH206871
Seller's pictures: https://imgur.com/a/y6Pwdso
Considering the crazy market, would this be a good buy? We don't have the cash to buy brand new, so this seems like a great deal to us. Of course, we are taking into consideration the risks and downsides of owning a rebuilt vehicle. We are looking for some advice. Thanks!
Edit: No frame/structural damage according to the seller.
Hello guys. Im in the market for a new Subaru Crosstrek Sport and dealer with a specific color has the car priced at $31,917 and $35,875 Out the door price. I know the markup price is ridiculous but i do have a trade in to offset the price.
I live in NYC and the dealership is in NJ. I know the doc fees are kinda high in NJ. Also you can see the $199 Vin etching fee.
The car is in transit and would need from me a $1000 Non-Refundable deposit to reserve car.
- Is the OTD price locked in after I make the non-refundable deposit or can I negotiate the price afterwards and maybe take off fees like the VIn etching?
- Would it be better to trade in to the dealership or places like Carmax, Carvana?
- Was hoping to get a better deal but I would like a new car before winter knowing that the 2022 Crosstreks won't be here till early Spring.
I recently replaced the battery in my 2017 Subaru Crosstrek AWD and my automatic window rollup thing for the Drivers side stopped working. I don't really care, eveything else is working. It's just a minor inconvenience. The window still goes up and down just not the automatic for some reason. Does anyone know a reason for this?
I want to stay on top of maintenance so I'm trying to cover all my bases with my limited knowledge.I had my breaks replaced this year. Transmission fluid, differential and cooling system service at 70k miles. I get my oil changed about every 5k miles.
What issues if any should I be looking out for now that I've hit 100k miles?
Also: Recently I've noticed a very very slight belt chirping noise while idling and I plan on getting that checked out at my upcoming oil change but I'd like some input as to what that might be. Could it be something with the AC compressor? About how long does the life of the AC last for my make and model?
Hi everyone!
I am shopping for a new car and have narrowed it down to three options:
β’2021 Subaru Crosstrek Outdoor in white (financing at 2.5% and $500 rebate, could get it right away)
β’2021 Mazda CX-30 GS in red with 150 km on it (financing at 1.5% and $500 rebate, could get it right away, was used as a demo)
β’2022 Mazda CX-30 GS in white (would need to be factory ordered and wonβt get here until spring, financing at 2.5% and no rebate)
I was leaning towards the Mazda, as the dealership told me they had one coming in white this month, but apparently that one isnβt coming anymore. I was really looking forward to getting a car that I wouldnβt have to wait months for (Iβm not very patientβ¦)
The first two options work out to almost exactly the same price, the last option works out to around $1500 more. I would really like a white car, but should I just go with the red Mazda and suck it up?
Edit: Forgot to add that I will be driving this car to work and back, as well as going to some ski hills in the winter.
I love my Crosstrek. This is the second of three Subarus my family have owned. That said, the infotainment system is dog sh-t. So frustrating that a good car like this has such a bad head unit. I bought this vehicle used this past summer and have various issues with the unit freezing up and annoyances with Apple CarPlay. The firmware currently on the HU is Rel_A.19.12.20, which I suspect is well out of date based on what I can find. I have done a lot of googling but can only find information relevant to those lucky enough to have a limited trim model with the nav and OTA firmware updates. I have tried the Aha app which, amazingly, might be worse than the HU itself and, unsurprisingly, does nothing for updating or even checking the firmware. Am I going to have to pay for the dealer to stick a thumb drive in my car or are there any other (easier/faster/cheaper) options for me?
