When I was ten, I had really bad eczema, and the kids would all say I had alligator skin. It affected me a lot, and I was trying all kinds of things to fix it.
One day, we were learning about rocks and minerals, and the teacher put a pumice stone on each of our desks and begins to explain what it is and it's uses. Of course, one of its uses is to exfoliate dry skin. A little doink sounded above my head where a lightbulb appeared, and while the teacher was turned away, I took the stone to my right arm and just went at it, rubbing it as hard as I could to get all that dry skin off. It wasn't until a few moments later, right before we left for PE class that I felt the burn I had given myself.
Had to sheepishly go tell my teacher what I had done to my arm and ended up missing PE to sit in the nurse's office.
Over a decade later, my eczema has stuck around but mostly dialed down. I count myself lucky, because my dry skin actually kept me from getting acne as a teen and adult, even though it seemed to suck so much.
TL/DR: I was desperate for a solution to my childhood eczema, saw my way out by causing horrible abrasions to my arm with a rock, missed PE.
