A list of puns related to "Spurious languages"
Although this tired old subject has been now been talked to death many times over on r/zen, and is no longer interesting, we still get trolls spreading religious misinformation on an almost daily basis.
As such, Iโve decided to collate all the crucial evidence in the โbig debateโ into one OP to make it easier to give people everything they need to know in one simple link, as opposed to repeating myself all the time.
Thus, welcome. This is a huge and tedious OP, but I think itโs necessary.

INTRODUCTION
Zen has nothing to do with seated mediation. On the contrary, Zen masters warned people against trying to engage in seated meditation for zen purposes.
The reason so many people believe there is a link between zen and meditation, for that โzenโ means โmeditationโ (it doesnโt) is that there are churches out there that have been actively spreading these lies and co-opting the zen name for their own weird nonsense doctrines for the last 1000 years.
Unfortunately for them, despite much being lost and purposefully destroyed, we still have a few records left from the real Zen Masters.
WHAT IS ZEN, THEN, IF NOT MEDITATION?
Zen is the name for an enlightenment school/lineage which was started in China by someone now referred to as Bodhidharma in around AD500. Unlike the various religions, philosophies and cosmologies at the time, Zen was radically different.
Zen is not a religion or a philosophy or certain practices or knowledge. Zen is, in a nutshell, about seeing your true nature. Itโs about recognising what โBuddha natureโ means. The penny drops, the cat is out of the bag. This is something that occurs in an instant. You see your nature and become a Buddha. This happens when all beliefs, ideas, concepts and practices are seen through as mere fleeting elements of One Mind.
Zen dialogues are all attempts at demonstrations and explorations of the dharma, as it were.
Buddha means โenlightened oneโ. The zen masters saw their enlightenment as the only true enlightenment, and the exact same one the โO.Gโ Buddha/Siddarta/Gautama/Sakyamuni experienced under the Bodhi tree. They retained the essence of it in their teaching, but Buddhists misunderstood and made a complex and nonsensical set of religions out of it, deferring to practices and beliefs, morality and the casting of the Buddha as a supernaturally gifted messiah figure.
Zenlightenment isnโt like that though:

I have no doubt I eventually will so if Iโm violating some kind of rule, Iโll be back. Some of these are funny some are wholesome and some are tragic and dark. Some are boundary-crossing territory, be sure to ask players what theyโre okay with. Feel free to add your own.
1. The Toll
While making a crossing, a troll demands the toll for the upkeep of his bridge. The troll inherited the responsibility of the upkeep for this bridge and lives in a hovel nearby. Because it doesnโt technically fall into any cityโs province no municipality is responsible. The troll demands very little, merely one gold piece. It is willing to accept food, particularly of the fey kind as payment for its work. The troll may speak giant or very broken common depending on the partyโs language loadout. There are no significant consequences for either paying ignoring or attacking the troll itโs just a stand alone moral choice.
2. โGive me a good deathโ
An old paladin hobgoblin wants his โgood deathโ. The hobgoblin has been looking for this death for quite some time in order to get into their orderโs afterlife. They might phrase their proposal with the implication that the players should kill it. But in truth a self actualised hobgoblin of this obscure faction must only be killed by the one who knows them the most, themselves. Cut to the dilemma: the hobgoblin has rigged up some very elaborate means to commit suicide, it could be a Rube Goldberg Saw trap which ritualistically cuts the individual open seppuku style or a simple cliff edge with lots of spiritual meaning to the paladin; the problem is the hobgoblin needs an audience for its death or it doesnโt count. Though they might explain this in so many words, the players may still not be able to shake the feeling they are being tricked into an ambush.
3. โTell my wifeโฆโ
The players have arrived just in time to witness a grizzly scene. Two travellers have met with an unfortunate accident. Their carriage flew too fast down a hill and has crashed into a fallen tree. One of the travellers who was manning the horse was flung forwards and has been impaled on one of the trees many sharp branches. The other who was riding in the car has been partially crushed by the carriage. Both are still alive, though minutes from death. However importantly they happen to be just out ears reach from each other. Cut to t

May we please ask you to have a detailed, professional evaluation done on Zena's French map and to report back the results on an upcoming episode? The evaluation could involve experts in Templar history, cartography, French history, and experts in the French language itself, including dialects and their evolution.
Zena's map has been referenced heavily on the show for a long time, and you all keep returning to it in the search. If the map is that important and central to the search, would you please have it evaluated by professionals, just as you do for all other artifacts and search clues on the show? It might help the search! Until now, the map has not been subjected to any detailed, critical evaluation by knowledgeable professionals associated with the show. This is not consistent with how the rest of the research is being conducted. Professors are called in for compositional analyses of metals and water samples. Tests are done to date wood samples. Historical libraries are consulted for pertinent past documents. Expert authors (Randall Sullivan) are called in, as are people who have familial connections to past searchers (McInnes sisters, the Restall progeny, & relatives of Samuel Ball). Professors and other experts are called in to evaluate book bindings, pieces of military shoes, coins, semi-precious gems, buttons, tools, the brass door knob, pottery pieces, ox shoes, metal implements and straps, shapes of stone pathways, the Tanit cross, the spurious Roman sword and more. But the show and research team have done no detailed, critical evaluations on the map.
The French map remains a central element of the show, but there are significant questions about it. These questions don't prove that the map is false, but they do warrant that the map should get the same due diligence as the other artifacts shown on the show. Here are some reasons to get the French map evaluated:

... keep reading on reddit โกSo last Saturday, a few of us from /r/AcademicBiblical met up on Discord for a little casual chat and hang. Everyone was a genuine delight to talk to.
To give the meetup some structure, we had picked an article to read beforehand, as a bit of a bouncing-off point for the convo. This week the topic was the famously disputed 1 Corinthians 14.34โ35, exhorting women to total silence in the churches/assemblies; and the article was Kirk MacGregor's "1 Corinthians 14:33b-38 as a Pauline Quotation-Refutation Device."
This post is both an extremely comprehensive overview of the text and scholarship on it. It also offers a number of new thoughts and interpretations, and gets pretty deeply into a bunch of other issues that we weren't able to touch on in time during the meetup.
Here's how NRSV translates these verses and the surrounding ones:
>29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said. 30 If a revelation is made to someone else sitting nearby, let the first person be silent. 31 For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged. 32 And the spirits of prophets are subject to the prophets, 33 for God is a God not of disorder but of peace. (As in all the churches of the saints, 34 women should be silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be subordinate, as the law also says. 35 If there is anything they desire to know, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church. 36 Or did the word of God originate with you? Or are you the only ones it has reached?) 37 Anyone who claims to be a prophet, or to have spiritual powers, must acknowledge that what I am writing to you is a command of the Lord. 38 Anyone who does not recognize this is not to be recognized
If anyone's previously familiar with these verses and scholarship on them at all, they'll know that 1 Corinthians 14.34โ35 is widely thought to be highly intrusive in its context, and many scholars have proposed this as the clearest instance of a post-Pauline interpolation that we have in the Pauline epistles. Interestingly, though, recognition of an anomaly here, and even its spuriousness, isn't modern at all, but goes back to the early church.
In one of those rare instances where we have information about the original scribes who copied an

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Most people are aware of the significant disparities between blacks and whites in the U.S. with respect to a wide range of important outcomes, such as income, education, poverty, incarceration, etc. For nearly every measurable metric of important life outcomes, blacks perform significantly worse than whites. In this post, I will cite studies showing that many of these disparities are mostly or entirely eliminated after controlling for performance on standardized test scores.
Note: due to reddit length limitations, this is a shortened version of a post from my website. To see the full post with more context and graphs, click here. Also, this post is agnostic with respect to the cause of the test score gap.
The relation between youth test scores and life outcomes in the U.S. is perhaps best demonstrated with data from the National Longitudinal Surveys published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Most studies below rely on analyses of these surveys, so it will be worthwhile to explain this data. There were two separate longitudinal studies of two different cohorts: the 1979 National Longitudinal Survey of Youth (NLSY79) and the 1997 National Longitudinal Survey of Youth (NLSY97). Both surveys collected data on several thousands of subjects from a representative sample of the noninstitutionalized civilian population in the U.S. For both surveys, data was collected at the start of the survey when participants were in their youth (in 1979 or 1997). The participants provided additional information in repeated follow-up interviews about important life outcomes, such as wages, education, marital status, etc.
Both cohorts of the NLSY completed the Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT) during the first interview. The AFQT is comprised of the following subsections of the [Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASV

##Arizona Fraudit
After months of delay, the Arizona โfrauditโ conducted by the Cyber Ninjas has finally concluded with the release of a โdraftโ report finding that Biden, in fact, won Maricopa County - by a larger margin than the official count. The final tally, according to Cyber Ninjasโ opaque and questionable methodology, resulted in Biden gaining 99 votes and Trump losing 261 votes. Itโs important to note that the so-called โauditโ wasnโt needed to confirm Bidenโs win. Nor was it about a legitimate counting of votes; the goal was and always has been undermining a Democratic victoryโ โany Democratic victory.
Thus, the groupโs presentation before the state Senate glossed over their reinforcement of Bidenโs win, choosing instead to focus on unfounded and hypothetical claims that fraud nevertheless occurred in the 2020 Presidential election.
>Officials with the review claimed that duplicate ballots might have been counted, that signatures on ballot envelopes were suspect, that 23,344 mail-in ballots might have come from wrong addresses and that 10,342 voters might have voted in multiple counties. They said (pdf) thousands of voters might have moved out of the county or the state, that mail ballots never sent to voters might have been counted and that 282 voters might have been dead.
Maricopa County election officials took to Twitter to live fact check these false claims during the hearing. The full threads can be read here and here.

Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB
Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"
I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual

Hello all,
I'm currently working on a project where I'm trying to perform key information extraction (KIE) and classification on rental property operating statements. My plan is to pre-train a model on a similar dataset (e.g. [IBM FinTabNet](https://developer.ibm.com/exchanges/data/all/fintabnet/), etc.) and then fine-tune on a custom dataset I'm creating. My task is to:
Based on the problem I'm thinking it's going to be important for the model to be able to learn a representation from the semantic content contained in the layout of the table in addition to language level content. Based on the literature it seems like this is a pretty new domain. I've been reading the papers on [BertGrid](https://arxiv.org/abs/1909.04948), [KIE](https://arxiv.org/abs/2103.14470), and some of the new table extraction/understanding research coming out of [Microsoft](https://arxiv.org/abs/2010.12537) and [Google](https://aclanthology.org/2020.acl-main.398/). My main questions that I'm hoping for guidance on are:
How the hell am I suppose to know when itโs raining in Sweden?

I immediately think a few things:
I hurried to remove the post here and on Twitter, but then I realized the event was actually posted on INGV, the Italian agency that the bot used as its source!
I stopped the bot (it isn't running now) and tried to tell INGV it was likely a spurious event, but their tweet about it even says "evento rivisto" (normally meaning "reviewed", as in confirmed by some human)... not quite sure what the human has been doing! Hopefully they remove it soon, because if I restart the bot without this event removed, chances are it'll start posting again. Luckily no one in that area was a designated DM recipient on Twitter, or I might have scared people for no reason.
But then the doubts about Indian languages and "English" remained. Well, English is a tiny town in Indiana, and 38ยฐ20โฒ8โณN 86ยฐ27โฒ38โณW actually
