A list of puns related to "Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals"
Now the post is gone and I can't put anymore pictures. Lol.
But still. I just need to vent. I'm not preachy with my family at all but this just made me irrationally angry.
"Yummy steak, this is why me no vegan, meat yummy hurhurhur." Just...just....gah!
Edit: guess this got popular enough to show up in other feeds, so bring on the trolls I guess.
More info:
I don't really talk to my family much about my veganism at all other than when I told them when I switched. Inititially my mom seemed fine other than getting super hung up on what I put on bread now since I don't eat butter.
Then it was a massive attack out of nowhere mostly religious i.e. ThE bIBle DoEsn'T SAy tO bE vEgAn. So I just sent her some Bible references which she didn't bother to look at and texted back "I DON'T WANT TO ARGUE WITH YOU." My mom was and is a toxic person so I'm used to her acting like this. I firmly responded that she came out of nowhere to attack me, and she can't get mad at me for defending myself.
My family even hunts and I have not said anything to them, not one time about it. Like, I genuinely go out of my way not to be "that vegan." (Doesn't matter anyway I guess because any time I go over to someone else's I get, "Hey, how do you know if someone's vegan? Don't worry, they'll tell you! LOL." and I don't even have to say or do anything.)
Because she is so toxic, most of her children keep interactions with her to a minimum, which she often complains about and tries to make us feel guilty for neglecting her.
The Facebook post happened right after a very nice phone call we had where nothing food or vegan related was brought up. It's the kind of thing she claims she wished we (her children) did more often.
Honestly, it's just another example of my mom giving me emotional whiplash. She does this kind of thing to all of us so the veganism is just what she picked on this time. She does it to all of us for various reasons.
I had a conversation with someone, and I didn't know this was such a heated issue. Turns out, there's this idea that zoos are bad for wild animals that I wasn't aware of.
It's kind of dumb to say that zoos harm animals when they do the exact opposite: shield from the horrors of the world that no one can deny (poaching, habitat erasure, extinction, etc.) and the benefits of being on the same campus as zoologists and exotic veterinarians.
People seem to have a lot of misconceptions that come with being spoon-fed misinformation from vegan outlets: things like "muh animal care" when zoos literally care for animals, or "muh freedom" when I couldn't hear a single argument that convinced me that this was a relevant issue (my question that remains unanswered is what would an animal in the wild do that's different from what an animal in a zoo does, save for the constant running from death and disease.
I'd like to hear some views on this... I don't know if this is just typical "instagram crap," but the comments were so full of people that thought that zoos were pure evil that I thought I had to post it on here.
Edit: fuck this blew up -- must be my most popular post on this sub. I'll try to get as many responses in as I can! Please bear with me!
Edit 2: I'm seeing a lot of comments about "bad zoos," and I totally agree! I think those zoos should change or be burned or something. I'd like to steer this conversation toward good-faith zoos mostly because that's the majority in the West coast, or any zoo that affiliates with the AZA (which tend to be the most successful). I don't know if I'm moving the goalposts too much (i.e. if bad zoos existing is a valid argument to support the removal of zoos' influence and control over animals, please let me know!), but that's mostly where I'd like the discussion to take place.
