Even in the oldest group of Czechs, Slovaks and East Germans, the majority approve the transition to market economy and multi party system.
It's surprising because East Germany had the highest GDP per capita of the eastern bloc, followed by Czechoslovakia. There is a strong nostalgia about socialism in Bulgaria and more than 2/3 of the old generation want the old regime. As you can see in the poll - older people generally disagree with the changes. I don't know about the current capitalist situation in Czechia and Slovakia but I think people have bad memory. They must have forgotten all the benefits that socialism gave - free healthcare, high pension, guaranteed 20 days vacation, job security, age of retirement 55 for women and 60 for men, affordable housing , every enterprise had a canteen for workers to eat at low prices. Transportation was very cheap, food was also mostly cheap and subsidized.
Just as written, MOST right now announced decision to exit coalition and enter talks with other parties to trigger early elections for which second coalition party, SNS, already expressed support if coalition falls apart earlier today.
Parties that expressed support for early elections
MOST - 14 MPs
SaS - 19 MPs
OLANO - 17 MPs
SME RODINA - 8 MPs
SPOLU - 6 MPs
3 independent MPs who already expressed support for it
Kotleba - 14 MPs
SNS - 15 MPs
Total 96 MPs, President already expressed support for autumn early elections to be combined with munincipal elections.
First of all, thank you to all who take the time to answer to this long post.
Here is some basic information about Bulgaria:
Bulgaria is currently using the Bulgarian Lev (BGN), which is pegged to the Euro at a fixed exchange rate of 1.95583 Bulgarian Leva for 1 Euro or 1 Bulgarian Lev equals roughly 0.51 Euro. This has been the case since 2002, when the Euro was introduced, before that, the Bulgarian Lev had been pegged to the Deutsche Mark since 1997. Bulgaria joined the ERM II without an opt-out in July 2020, together with Croatia.
Here are the main concerns of the Bulgarian population in regards to the transition to the Euro:
I have addressed all these concerns many times myself, but these misconceptions still persist among the population. So my main questions are:
This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 57%. (I'm a bot)
> Slovak opposition movement Ordinary People took a strong lead in the EU country's parliamentary election, an exit poll released by TV Markiza showed on Saturday.
> The poll was in line with forecasts that voters in the central European country were poised to oust the ruling centre-left Smer party, which has dominated Slovakia's political landscape for more than a decade, amid growing anger over high-level graft and the murder of an investigative journalist.
> The poll by the Focus agency showed OLANO winning 25.8% of the vote, followed by Smer with 14.9%. It showed OLANO would be best placed to lead negotiations on forming a new centre-right government with other opposition conservative and liberal groups.
> In the European Parliament, OLANO is aligned with the centre-right European People's Party.
> Its nationalist and Hungarian minority allies would not win any seats in Parliament, the poll showed.
> The poll showed the far-right, anti-NATO People's Party, which had aspired to win the second spot in opinion polls around the turn of the year, was seventh with 6.5%..
