A list of puns related to "Single scull"
Looking for a decent rowing scull, decent rower in high school, love the sport and want to do it as much as possible. Are the Hudson sculls any good?
My mother-in-law-to-be has decided she wants to start rowing. She has been in a few open water type singles, and said she liked it, so I've been tasked with finding her something appropriate.
She lives on a mostly quiet river with some slow boat traffic- overall I think a pretty nice play to row (minus the occasional alligator, because Florida)
I was thinking something like a Maas Aero or Peinert Zephyr - but my concern is that she is a ~65 year old woman that probably weighs about ~130 pounds, and I'm not sure how well she will be able to manage getting that in and out of the water on her own.
Anyone able to provide any insight?
Been out of rowing for 15 years, and looking to buy a single scull that is competetive at masters level. Im only a middle weight.
Back in the old days, My circle of influence thought Hale boats were pretty decent. Just wondering if that is still the case for post 2000 boats!?
So to preface, I've never rowed anything more than the big metal rowboats at Boy Scout camp, but I recently bought a single scull and have been excited to try it out. I had previously taken it out on the Raritan Canal, and then a short section of the Raritan River in NJ, but had never been able to row it any great distance (we're talking like MAYBE 200 meters out and back a couple times). I had issues with set up and the water level being too low, but today, I decided to travel a bit and headed over to Carnegie Lake outside Princeton for some more open water. It started off OK , but I couldn't seem to get my feathering right, and kept getting the blades caught in the water on the recovery.
I managed to make it all the way down the lake, and most of the way back, before I finally decided to take a good look at the way my oars were when they were feathered. It seemed weird that they were angled so far backwards, so I attempted to switch sides with the oars (gimme a break, didn't I tell you that I was brand new at this? No instruction other than youtube?) So that didn't seem to work, so I rowed a bit more, and finally realized that the oar locks on this particular boat have a preference, and I seemed to be doing the opposite.
A quick flip in the position of the oar locks on the oars, and everything was now angled correctly, smooth sailing... errr... rowing. So I went from everything being awful and not being very good and looking like a baby deer who was just born trying to dance on ice, to someone who looks like a baby deer but on like, just dirt or something. So I'm hooked now, but I can't go out until sometime next week when my schedule allows. Oh the humanity! Guess I'll finally jump on that erg that I bought...
Hi, I donβt row myself so sorry if any of my terminology is off. My fiancΓ© is looking to sell a wintech competitor single scull as we work on cleaning out her parentβs garage. Itβs from the late 00βs and is in great condition. It was only used for probably 2 seasons. She also has a bunch of accessories, like slings, a rigger, and training pontoons, but no oars.
We have no clue what it was purchased for originally, and itβs really hard to find pricing info for new boats, let alone used ones, to even figure out a reasonable ballpark. Does anyone have any advice on what something like this goes for in todayβs market?
Before Halo Infinite comes out, I want to beat every single Halo game, even off shots, on Legendary difficulty with both the Mythic and Thunder skulls on. I was confident I could do it, I did that already for Halo 3 with more than just Mythic and Thunder skulls on, however, I was playing ODST on the mission you first use Dutch, I decided to get some practice in while completing a Challenge for points on MCC, I Had Mythic and Thunder on with a few others.... and I was horrified when I couldn't even get through the very beginning of Dutches level. I am extremely good at using the Brute Chopper, I kill wraiths with them all the time, but I spent at least 5 minutes trying to kill on Wraith and it wouldnt die, I am not sure it can be killed with a Brute Chopper on Legendary if you have both Mythic and Thunder on?
So my question is, what is the best tactics to beat all the Halo games, even Wars and other offshoots, on Legendary with Mythic and Thunder on, or the equivalent in Wars?
About a decade ago I rowed a men's 8 in college. I use my concept2 to stay healthyish, but I have a hankering to get back on the water.
Do you have any sturdy, single scull recommendations that can accommodate all 6ft, 240lb of me? I'm more price/comfort minded than racing oriented. Make & model would be greatly appreciated or even local used options near Chicago
I wouldn't be opposed to a project boat with provided plans and materials
Hi all, Iβm attending a 30km (15km up 15km back) single scull event tomorrow. This is my first time rowing that long of a distance especially in person. Does anyone have any tips for preparation/techniques. Iβve been rowing for 5 years but mostly in quads and 8βs
This is a multi-thread debacle, and archives will be necessary. Thank you, based Removeddit. There arenβt really any long slapfights, but I think the nature of this post and OPβs conduct fit the spirit of SRD.
If I had to choose one quote that sums it up, it would be this comment written by the boat-thief to the captain of the team:
> As far as I see it. Weβre even. You pissed me off, I pissed you off. I have no interest in returning to the club and your boat is fine.
Hereβs the original thread. And hereβs the removeddit thread. OP deleted the incriminating picture, but shoutout to /r/Drama for screenshotting it. Itβs interesting that he brought a camera (and a life vest!) into the boat, which suggests that he planned to flip. Also, apparently, heβd never sculled in his life before. For a sweep rower (aka one oar per man), sculling (two oars per man) is challenging at first, and you generally donβt start off in a single. If you do start learning in a single, you begin in a gig (they have kayak-like dimensions, Iike this). A racing shell like the one he stole looks like this. Iβd be surprised if OP managed to do much more than push off from the dock before flipping.
Hereβs the price table for racing shells from the boat manufacturerβs website, for context.
IDK what oars he used, but assuming he used Concept 2βs, here are the prices for those.
The captain of the KCL menβs team finds the thread, announces that OP is unaffiliated with the team and stole their property. TSS is the Tideway Scullersβ School, so apparently OP didnβt just steal a boat from his former team but oars from a separate club, making this two thefts for the price of one. Hereβs removeddit. Youβll need removeddit to see the boat-thiefβs attempts to defend himself (including something about how the captain is the one doing βdamage control.β) Apparently two cops fished him out of the river. To view everyoneβs amusing reactions to OP
... keep reading on reddit β‘looking for drills to get a bunch of scullers to try, anything goes really, stationary/moving/fun/technical
a huge mix of abilities from being able to row square blades to some very slow paddlers, but it's okay if they'll end up in the water :)
I recently built a cedar strip canoe and my cousin asked if I could build him a single scull. I don't know much about rowing so I have no idea what the crucial elements are for hull design. Could I take a chined design and adapt the geometry to a rounded strip method?
Why do I struggle to carry a single so much?
The weight is not the problem but it is constantly tilting and I worry that I am going to bang it on the ground or drop it when I have to hold it still for a long time.
I'm getting used to it gradually but is there some sort of technique for flipping a single over onto your other shoulder and lifting overhead that I should know? I get really anxious having to carry the boat back and forth.
Hiya, anyone Know the make/model of this single scull? Looking to maybe purchase but owner doesnβt know much about it.

Thx!
What are everyone's views on different single scull manufacturers? I understand there is no true answer for everyone, but what are some general opinions?
I personally live in NZ, am 6'1" and 84kg. I have been looking at some local manufacturers (SL Racing and Laszlo (formerly KIRS)) and they seem good, and are both popular, but I have also heard good things about Sykes as well.
Used to row a Filippi F15 for school, but I was too heavy for it. Good boat though. Before that I rowed a 2010 Wintech International, it was very stable, but didn't go as fast.
I am looking at buying in the future, so what would your recommendations be? Because I live in NZ importing boats is expensive, but I'm keeping my mind open and willing to listen to the overall opinions.
Hey, one of my club members is interested in selling their heavyweight Hudson 1x shell. I believe its a 2007 model but I'm unsure. It has aluminum stern-mounted riggers and looks similar to the image in the link below. It is in very good condition (but not exactly great condition). Its been owned by 2 previous owners and I'm not sure how much to make an offer for. What are your thoughts?

This is my single scull "Boann" She was named for the Celtic goddess of rivers and poets.
The hull is 3/4 by 1/8 inch cedar strips fitted and edge glued covered with 2oz glass set in epoxy on both sides. I used carbon fiber for the deck and internal bulkheads as well as bracing for the wing riggers. She is 32'-9" long (10 meters) and has a beam of 12 inches She weighs 34 pounds with rigging.
Designed by Graham King. I built her a few years ago and I go out about 60 times a year on a variety of water both fresh and salt. I only wish I looked as good as my boat when we are out rowing.
Does anyone have suggestions for a car rack that I can leave on my car that can transport either a kayak or a single? Iβm getting my first single soon and Iβd love to be able to switch up what Iβm taking out everyday without having to switch racks. Iβd like one that gets mounted - not those foam covers Iβd have to take on and off. Any suggestions would be much appreciated
A month ago I got onto the keto diet, very low carb, high protein. I had wanted to lose some weight for a while, but it was not until I had a cancer scare that I moved on it.
During this time I continue to row both on the ERG and in my single. I knew that I was above the weight for my boat but it sneaked up on me and was not until I started losing pounds that I really understood the impact that that extra 25 pounds had on my stroke.
I was having trouble constantly clearing the blade at the finish. I had raised the height to max out my rigging but still the problem persisted.
As I started losing weight I found that it was easier and easier to row well, not dragging the surface on the recovery and getting a cleaner catch. I also found I could get more compression at the catch because I had less gut to get in the way.
As of yesterday I had dropped 18 pounds and I felt so much better in the boat, not National Team better but I could easily clear at the finish come up more at the catch and generally look less like a grizzly bear in spandex.
I am hoping to need to get a new smaller uni by the end of the season.
Currently coaching a sculling camp, trying to add in some fun drills at the end of the sessions that can be useful for rowing but can also result in them capsizing
Weβve done the basics, rigger dips, standup, one oar full slide rowing, attempting to swap the blades over
Also love to hear any drills that are good for singles
There were a lot of requests on technique drills in the single scull. Here is part1 of a series of videos to come. Find the full video here: https://youtu.be/O8BVWGQTrIQ

Hi,
This is my firs post. I hope everybody is well and safe.
For the last season I have been rowing a Filippi F15 with a carbon wing. Consistently I feel the port oar digging in and feeling much heavier. In contrast, the starboard oar washes out and feels lighter. I have checked the oarlocks angle multiple times and they seem fine and symmetrical.
I row with Croker oars (87.5 inboard). The oars seem fine and this problem doesn't appear when rowing with them on other shells.
I can add that the the rigging of the boat is far from ideal for my size since the oarlocks are too high, even when set at their lowest possible setting.
Any thoughts will be highly appreciated.
