Apart from its Hindi version, Prabhas’ Saaho has turned out to be an ordinary affair at the box office, if movie’s pre-release buzz and budget is considered. It was one of the highly anticipated releases of the year but it fetched negative reviews upon its release due to poor content.

It is learnt that due to Saaho‘s underperformance, actor Prabhas will face a heavy toll on his remuneration. Also, the actor will also have to do a few films without taking a penny as a payback for the makers.

“The producers have borrowed heavy amounts of money from the market. And Prabhas has signed as guarantor for almost Rs. 50 crores. This means he will have to do some films for free to pay back the money, if Saaho fails to generate substantial revenues. The interest amount on the film is Rs 78 crores. Prabhas will probably not get a rupee. Instead he will have to be responsible for the money that has been borrowed. UV Productions are looking at selling property to pay back the Saaho investments,” quotes a source.

“Saaho” is Prabhas’s first release after the blockbuster “Bahubali” series. While the film opened well, it left has many fans and the media underwhelmed owing to its lack of a cohesive plot.

The action drama “Saaho” was shot simultaneously in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil languages, and is rumoured to have been made on a budget of around Rs 350 crore. The film also stars Shraddha Kapoor, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Jackie Shroff.

I just returned from the cinema and I was shocked to see how amateurish SAAHO (Hindi) looked on the big screen. Has this to do with the editing or was the print delivered to cinema plagued with issues?

The problems:

• Timecodes flashed on the screen.
• Audio synchronization issues.
• Missing color grade in some scenes.
• Inconsistent mixed and stretched aspect ratios.
• Missing frame from "Baby Would You Tell Me" was replaced with a low-resolution screenshot from the YouTube version, as you could see the T-Series logo in the corner for a second.
• Pixelated (stock) footage.

Edit: I watched the Hindi version in The Netherlands.

Edit 2: I e-mailed the cinema and they will investigate the issue. I'll get a response back soon.

Edit 3: The cinema responded (translated and edited):

Dear kaljisnedekha,

Thank you for your message.

We asked our operations center, who's in charge of this, and they have concluded that a wrong version of the film was delivered in combination with the Dutch subtitles. We currently own the correct version with English subtitles. A few of our cinemas have already chosen to show the incorrect version with the Dutch subtitles. I apologize for this disappointing experience.

Would you like to see SAAHO again, but then the correct version with English subtitles? If you wish, I can ask your local cinema about when they will show it. You'll get a ticket on us. I hope to hear from you soon, thanks!

Edit 4: My cinema sucks. They want me to travel to another city to watch the proper version of SAAHO.

• Generic love story - orphan girl/boy or both that nobody cares but somehow needs to be in the story to waste time.

• The dark knight copied truck flip and Prabhas watching over a CGI city like Batman watches over Hong Kong. There's going to be similar jumping off buildings that the first look already guaranteed.

   Alright that's great. Make a movie about a technological Dystopia. But noooo... Because the next scene is. 
  

• Literally Madmax, with a bit of Rajamouli and Boyapati Srini thrown in. Mark my words these fights are going to be just like Vinaya Vidheya Rama.

• Shraddha Kapoor. She looks so uninterested, should have gone with Alia or Deepika if they wanted a Bolly face.

• This is the director's second film, and his first film was pretty average. There is no precedebt for guaranteed success on the scale Saaho wants.

• Main Point - The purpose of these trailers/teasers is to reveal the genre of the movie and give out some story as hooks without giving up too much plot. It is supposed to give the feel/vibe of the movie. Look at the trailer of Joker, the teaser for Doctor Sleep or even the trailer for any normal Tollywood film like Majili. They are on point.

  The teaser for Saaho is a mish mash of stupid derivative action scenes which are cut so fast that we don't judge the CGI or special effects.

So I finally managed to catch War after finishing my exams. To be honest I was a bit apprehensive as I had watched Saaho on its release date and boy was that movie bad. So I went to watch War without any expectation and it exceeded those expectations. I like good movies with good scripts but do enjoy mindless movies like fast and furious or mission impossible once in a while. Not every movie has to be a Christopher Nolan movie (I wish). A little background: I’m a huge HR fan but didn’t like Bang Bang and was hoping it was more similar to Dhoom 2 than bang bang which it definitely was.

Even though the movies has its flaws I liked it for many reasons. The VFX was good and they mostly used practical effects compared to CGI. Compared to Saaho which showed you an aerial shot of a CGI fictional city, War shows you an actual aerial shot of Delhi. There are no CGI plane and helicopters which look like a cartoon like in Saaho. Saaho did have good visual in the climax but by that time the damage was done.

The script was super tight with no major plot holes. Many people claimed that the movie was riddled with plot holes but I couldn’t find any major one. Once the twist at the end is revealed, the movie still makes sense. Every move is explained sometimes directly by the protagonist. Compared to Saaho where once the final twist is revealed, the movie doesn’t make any sense. Why did Prabhas steal his own money, I will never know. He could have just easily killed chunky pandey but then we wouldn’t have any movie I guess. How did Shraddha Kapoor go from good cop to bad cop so quick. Was Prabhas a good guy or a bad guy. Why was Mandira a villain????? So many questions.

On the other hand War was a much simpler movie with IMHO a good twist. HR is a good soldier, realises that there are four moles in his government and decides to kill them one by one while one of his squad member is actually the main villain. Not unlike mission impossible where Henry Cavill is revealed to be the bad guy Tom Cruise was searching for but working with all along. Again many people didn’t like the plastic surgery and found it very Ekta kapoor like but I found it plausible based on the context of the movie. If a famous Chinese plastic surgeon can give a new face to an android in Avengers, a plastic surgery and face swap seems plausible within the realm of the War universe.
