A list of puns related to "Revolutionary nationalism"
So I often see the term "real socialism" be applied to the experiences of the USSR, East Germany, etc., while Vietnam, Korea, Burkina Faso and even Cuba are classified as "revolutionary nationalism".
I don't know. It implies that when periferic nations do their revolutions, it isn't "real socialism". But even if you claim that their liberation movements had a nationalist sentiment, the fact that they became a socialist country after proves that it wasn't a bourgeois nationalism, but a people's anti-imperialist and anti-colonialist movement.
But I really want to listen opposite thoughts on it. Thanks!
You hear about Bobby Sands and other hunger strikers poetry and literature, about the various rebel songs written during the troubles. This makes me think that some of the paramilitaries could be quite romanticist. Viewing nationalism as this culutral force that must be unleashed music, art ,etc.
Or do you think their vision was less romanticist and more driven by the desire for a socialist revolution and the establishment of a left wing political and economic system?
Whats everyones thoughts?
I realize this is an incredibly politically fraught question, but I was considering it earlier and wondered how the civic religion idea has been taken by historians, and what (non-triumphalist, non-biased) sources there are on it's evolution.
It seems to me to be a core part of American nationalism, that doesn't have a clear parallel in many European nations, save France.
Looks like were due for a huge resurgence of pan afrikan nationalism with the deals going on in Africa. What skills do you have and how can you enrich yourself and your community by making moves in Africa?
Hello,
I need some help picking a Bernie speech if possible. I've been reading some of them, and most of them seem to be about addressing an issue. That's fine, but I can't seem to find a speech that uses nationalistic elements to band the audience together. Any one know of any speeches that might fit that?
Thank you!!!
Edit: nationalism isn't a bad thing per se. What you see in Trump is pandering to American exceptionalism. Yes Hitler was good at using nationalism, so was Gandhi and and Abe Lincoln.
Hello, comrades! I thought some people here might enjoy reading a Chinese nationalist tract from 1903. Written by the young Chinese nationalist named Zou Rong, it was used by the Chinese nationalists as standard propaganda material all the way up to the Xinhai Revolution.
I thought maybe some friends of China and other China-watchers would be interested in this English translation of this very influential work. There is a story of one man in Shanghai, upon reading this pamphlet, immediately bought over 100 copies to spread to everyone he knew! Mao himself was probably familiar with it, being a member of the The Society for the Study of Wang Fuzhi.
Warning: this is some very heavy reading. If you are easily aroused by powerful rhetoric, you might want to skip over this item.

Some might remember when a bunch of protestors demanding Amazon pay a minimum of $30 an hour set up a guillotine outside Bezosβ home in DC. Itβs a pretty common meme in leftist circles and usually the punchline criticizes greedy landlords or politicians. Recently the DSA who run the Nevada Dems tweeted a logo including a guillotine.

Aside from the fact that extrajudicial murder is bad and joking about murdering wealthy people isnβt as funny as communists seem to think, the guillotine is such a poor choice of a symbol of the benefits of revolution.
The guillotine is named after Joseph-Ignace Guillotin a man who neither designed nor invented the device. Beheading machines had existed for centuries before such as the βmaidenβ in Scotland or the Halifax Gibbet in England. The guillotine surprisingly arose out of enlightenment ideals. Medieval capital punishment was torturous, grotesque and unequal. Criminals could be drawn and quartered, hung, broken on the wheel or beheaded. Guillotin surprisingly was opposed to the death penalty but saw a more humane, painless alternative to archaic torture as a steppingstone to capital punishment being abolished. Guillotin aimed to convince the King to adopt it and after it was proposed to the National Assembly, King Louis banned the use of the breaking wheel. Itβs first victim was not a member of the aristocracy but a common criminal, a highwayman named Nicholas Pelletier.
17,000 were officially executed during the reign of terror but less than 3,000 people were guillotined in Paris. Including summary executions, deaths in prison and the guillotined by far most of the revolutionary violence occurred in the French departments especially in the Vendee, Lyon, Toulon, Bordeaux and Marseilles.
Lyon was the center of the federalist revolt against revolutionary Paris. After the besieged city surrendered to republican troops in October 1793, vicious reprisals began. Barere decried that Lyon would be demolished and now known as Ville-Affranchie (Liberated City). Hundreds of homes were scheduled for destruction and military commissions and guillotines were set up to root out counter re
