I've stumbled upon this very useful article from ex-Vlambeer legend developer Rami Ismail.
The core lesson he presents is that most indie developers focus too much on getting eyeballs to their game's promotion (aka the top of the conversion funnel) when it really does not make a lot of difference if the material does not clearly communicate what the game is about.
Another important lesson I took out of it was how "Communicating what your game is is just as important as communicating what your game is not". So you actually has to purposefully "cull" a lot of people in the middle of the funnel (who would not really like to buy and play your game). I was not aware this was so important.

There was a thread yesterday or the day before (I canβt remember sorry) about some Twitter beef with Gita. Linked is the apology letter by Rami for the events that unfolded at large. No specific people were called out, but rather the focus was on the communities that were harmed by the discourse.
Just saw this on Twitter. I get where Rami and Randy are coming from, but I canβt help but feel that theyβre being just a biiiiiiit dismissive of the context. That said, their comments reflect the article rather than /u/Pheoniseβs work, and I guess Destructoid really could have gone with a better angle in this one.
