Pure Guava Puns

Just listened to it SOBER in the first time in like 3 years and I loved every second. Forgot how good this one was, and I already expected to enjoy it. It’s ALWAYS a pleasure to listen to an album like this from the beginning all the way to the end.

It’s 11:16 pm as I start writing this. I wake up at 5am for school every morning so this is pretty late for me. I’ve been a Ween fan for a few months, found them the same way many do, through Ocean Man and Push Th’ Little Daisies. I obsessed over these guys for about a month before settling down on the whole Ween thing. While chugging through math homework I randomly decided to play the Ween album I disliked most out of all of them, Pure Guava. And it just clicked. All of these songs sound right to me. I don’t know why. I don’t know how. But all these are just absolute bangers. I used to only enjoy about 6 of the 19 songs. Now I enjoy almost all of them. I even listened to Mourning Glory. I’m just in awe man. I thought I just hated Guava. I mean I liked The Pod on first listen, so I just assumed I was brown to begin with, no growing on me required. I thought wrong. Praise Boognish.

I feel like it might have been on a top20 list that Kurt and Courtney gave at some point, but it also might have been an askdeaner post. As a sidenote, does anyone have the askdeaner site backed up?

EDIT: so to my recollection of this interview or review or w/e it was - was basically Kurt and Courtney saying they used to take a bunch of mushrooms and jam out Pure Guava. I know I'm not hallucinating this, so it's out here somewhere. No matter what, it's an awesome bit of trivia

This is the album that has Little Birdy,Tender Situation,The Goin' Gets Tough from the Getgo,Reggaejunkiejew,I Play it Off Legit,Flies on my Dick,I Saw Gener Cryin' In His Sleep,Touch My Tooter,Mourning Glory (obviously),Hey Fat Boy (Asshole) and Poopship Destroyer. All of those are friggin' brown,mang. The Pod is brown,don't get me wrong,but for some reason,to me it's not as brown,despite others saying it's cleaner. Wdyt of my opinion,mang?

This is album is nothing short of brilliant. Nearly every song can play perfectly in my head and I’ve only heard most of them once. This album really cemented how well the boys can create imagery. Each albums got this unique feeling while all some how feeling connected. It just feels like the colour orange.

Also This apparently has the first ween song I ever heard. When I was a tiny little 7 year old my dad would play big jilm on CD. The fact I’ve finally figured out the name of the song is just brilliant to me.

So today I decided to spray on Bath and Body Works Hibiscus Guava Fresca ( an incredible $3 find at the semi annual sale! ) as my scent of the day, and I noticed something... this smells nearly identical to my lifelong favorite, Victoria’s Secret Pure Seduction! Maybe a 90% dead on match!

Now.. let’s dissect these fragrances, shall we?

Notes for Hibiscus Guava Fresca: Acapulco Hibiscus, Fresh Guava, Grapefruit Agua Fresca, Beach Iris, Sea Salt Driftwood

Notes for Pure Seduction: Plum, Freesia, Chamomile

Now... from the notes, you wouldn’t think these could smell REMOTELY similar! And who would be trying to copy Pure Seduction WAY past it’s prime in the fragrance scene right?

Well... then I remembered how! Bath & Body Works + Victoria’s Secret are owned by the same company. So I’m sure they can toss formulations back and forth between the brands with no issue lol.

VS PURE SEDUCTION

VS PS is a classic. It is still just a juicy, fruity plum with a big overdose of freesia. It’s one of those body mists I’ve been wearing since middle school that I still feel is “ grown “ enough to keep in my current collection as an easy grab. It served me well on a casual day/over my loungewear and I can get 3-4 hours out of it before I need to reapply! I also feel like it’s strong enough sillage wise that I can wear this during the cooler months too and it can still poke through the layers of my sweaters and jackets on a very cold day.

B&BW HGF

The B&BW HGF is almost dead on, but they have toned down that freesia and made it fruitier! The freesia isn’t as present, but it’s still there! Its what breaks through all the fruitiness and “ rounds “ it out. I do smell that guava note in there that’s been added, but I’m not too sure I’m picking up on the grapefruit at all. As someone who drinks a lot of iced hibiscus tea ( agua de Jamaica ) I can FAINTLY pick it up behind those plum notes, but not enough to be a picked up without looking for it. Honestly If I didn’t know it was in there, I wouldn’t have guessed there was anything more than that freesia and plum in the base. Overall this one lasts 4 hours on my skin and clothes before becoming a skin scent... but this one DOES have a teeny bit more staying power than Pure Seduction!

Overall this smells like a summer flanker for Pure Seduction. I’m not mad at it! I like it enough to have two backups in my closet!
