I'm not 100% sold on either gradualism or punctuated equilibrium... And I've seen so many arguments for or against over the years that I'm a bit lost. Can anyone offer their expert opinion?

Help with punctuated equilibrium rulings

During a game I played recently, I had Auto-encoder in play (reads: "after a card is discarded from your hand, archive the top card of your deck") and my opponent played punctuated equilibrium (reads: "each player discards their hand, then refills their hand as if it were their 'draw cards' step").

I believe I would archive the top 6 cards of my deck as I had 6 in hand that were discarded and then draw 6 as if it were my draw cards step.

My opponent argued that since all of my hand was discarded at once, I should only archive one card and then draw 6.

Could you guys with more experience help me know who was right?

Punctuated Equilibrium vs. Phyletic Gradualism

I just learned these words today. Not only are they very big words that sound very smart, they are also both interesting concepts and according to my reading neither have been identified yet as the main framework for how most organisms evolve over time.

I am curious what this subs thoughts are on which is the king theory and why. I read about these in a geology textbook, so there is a good chance that lots of new research has come to light that I don't know.

Thanks, and I'm very interested in what the responses will be!

Given that certain pre morbid conditions drastically increase the likelihood of mortality from the disease, and there seems to be some genetic basis for the premorbid conditions such as hypertension (there are environmental factors as well, I realize). Just wondering if there are any knowledgeable redditors who could weigh in on this.

High Priest Torvus plus Punctuated Equilibrium Combo?

So, say a friendly High Priest Torvus is already on the field, then you play ghosthawk to reap with Torvus, choosing to exalt. Then the next action you play is punctuated equilibrium, am I correctly thinking PE returns to your hand after you discard and draw back up?

In the rule book, it says when an action card is played, the active player resolve’s the card’s play: ability, and after resolving as much as possible, places it in the discard pile.

So due to Torvus’ ability, instead of putting it in the discard pile, you return it to hand for more PE shenanigans after you’ve already drawn a new hand!

If that’s the case it makes Torvus plus PE a pretty sweet combo, given that you have a way to pull it off. Wonder if we’ll ever see a maverick of one with the other?

Punctuated equilibrium was established to explain the gaps in fossil records

Recently I have heard this claim that Punctuated equilibrium idea was made so that it can explain the gaps in fossil records.Creationists are saying paleontologist have found there are not much links between two species. But we have a lot of links between reptiles and birds, fish and amphibian etc.Fossil records support gradualism. But Punctuated equilibrium is saying species phenotype don't change for a long time and in short time a lot of phenotypic chance happen. Can anybody help me to explain it.

What is the current status of Punctuated Equilibrium?

Eldridge and Gould made a splash in the 90s and 2000s with their suggestion that speciation most often occurs not gradualistically, but rapidly, when specific populational and environmental factors coincide. This idea isn't heard about too much these days, so I'm wondering if the theory of Punctuated Equilibrium is still kicking about or if it has been dismissed for good?

Punctuated Equilibrium and Chains

While we continue to debate the Archimedes ruling, here is something else to chew on.

Punctuated Equilibrium - Play: Each player discards their hand, then refills their hand as if it were the end of their.

Say I have 2 Chains. I play a couple of Untamed cards from my hand, then play Punctuated Equilibrium. Because I'm drawing cards "as if it were the end of my turn", I should shed a chain right? Then I play another Untamed card and end my turn, drawing up to my hand size, and then I shed another Chain right? So, I have effectively shed both Chains in one turn?

Curious if anyone has run in to this.

Punctuated Equilibrium (Crawler Alt-power)(Heavily AU)(varies between grimdark and black comedy)

Taylor triggers with Crawler's Power. The settings is gradually revealed to be AU. Highlights Missy Taylor friendship and the PRT munchkining and leveraging Taylor's powers to almost dangerous levels. The pacing jumps around a tad (somewhat intentionally to get to interesting parts or to capture Taylor's perspective), and the introduction of the AU bits is sudden, but overall the dark humor to it was enjoyable. Not totally sure if the author meant it as black comedy, but I got a decent chuckle out of several parts.

Sources for evidence of punctuated equilibrium?

Creationists typically will complain about recent species since it's the "same kind," but those would be fairly useful in demonstrating that punctuated equilibrium does indeed occur.

I just need somewhere to look at it as well, as I have little knowledge of the functions in that area.
