A list of puns related to "ProtonVPN"
ProtonVPN expands to 63 countries! Weβve just increased coverage to Puerto Rico and Thailand via our Smart Routing technology. The physical locations of our bare-metal servers are:
The new servers are available to all Plus and Visionary users. Simply connect to the servers which have a globe icon next to them.

Hello everyone,
I was downloading some files and I noticed ProtonVPN speeds are not constant and are not as high as they claim : when I was downloading, the speed started at 40/50 MB/s then went down at around 9 MB/s and then went again at 20/30 MB/s and it is like this all the time even when I choose low-loaded servers.
It is not due to the download server because when I switch to Mullvad I go up to 95 MB/s (and sometimes up to 110 MB/s) on West European servers.
So is there any reason why some ProtonVPN servers are not able to provide me decent speeds (as they claim 10Gbps servers) ? When I go to servers such as Switzerland, I also get these speeds (up to 90 MB/s) but I would like to have these speeds in the country I live.
I use Wireguard on both VPNs.
Thank you.
I've been using the free plan for a year now and had it connect at startup. It's been running extremely well and I haven't noticed any slowdowns, like at all.
That's all, sorry for the short post
Hi,
it seems that the ProtonVPN application for Linux is not up to date compare to Windows one (wire guard mostly).
Do we know when it will arrive to Linux ?
Regards
If any of you have a free solution I would love to read or watch it
I like the Mullvad style (no login, accepts cash, no trial plan) but ProtonVPN's additional features like support to streaming or adblocker/NetShield (no idea how good it is) would make Mozilla VPN's integration with the browser and containers so much cooler than how it is now.
Let's say I'm running a VM. Can I successfully use ProtonVPN on the host and also in the VM as well, thus essentially using it twice on the same machine? Would this work with the same free plan on both? Would it work with the same paid plan on both? Would it work with a paid plan on one and a free plan on the other? Would I need to use a different account for each or could I use the same account on both? Would anything different need to be modified or done differently than usual?
Hello I have a problem of opening protonvpn-gui in Manjaro linux, i try to uninstall it but it didn't work , so can i know how to solve this problem.
Edit: i was able to solve the problem with this steps : 1-uninstalling protonvpn. 2-then using this command "pamac build $(pacman -Qoq /usr/lib/python3.9)"
So i have VPNPLUS subscription on ProtonVPN and i wanna ask can i use it for streaming on Twitch? I just want to stay protected if someone catch my IP by my mistake....
Thanks in advance.
I am about to purchase it and have some last questions:
Thanks!
Gets stuck at loading connection info from window, not sure what to do.
Im running Arch KDE, how can i automatically startup ProtonVPN GUI in my second workspace?
Hello,
I've recently made the permanent switch from Windows to Manjaro XFCE 21.2.0. I followed the instructions on ProtonVPN's website to install which were straight forward, and the app opened no problem. I've been using it for a week or two with no issues. This morning, however, suddenly the app does not open. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. Every time I try to open the program, nothing happens. I'm really stumped. Does anyone know something else I could try, tricks, or just any reason why this program would just flat out stop working? Thank you.
I had no issues on my previous pc but I recently upgraded and now itβll randomly cut out my internet until I shutdown the application. I use it with split tunneling so it only uses the vpn on my browser but it doesnβt matter if Iβm using my browser or not when it causes my internet to stop working, usually Iβll just be playing a game. Anyone know how to fix this? Clearly this must have something to do with having different drivers but idk what to even try to fix it.
I'm not even using the VPN, I'm just trying to have a look at their website, but trying to access https://protonvpn.com/ results in Firefox telling me:
>Secure Connection Failed
>
>An error occurred during a connection to protonvpn.com. PR_CONNECT_RESET_ERROR
>
>The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
>
>Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem.
I am in the UK is that matters somehow, does anyone else have this problem?
As the title says. Does ProtonVPN have anything in the works that could compete with this? I use Firefox Containers all the time. It is one of the main reasons I've stuck with Firefox.
On Windows 7, every time I connect with ProtonVPN it creates a new network connection for me. This means: I get a dialog asking me if the new network should be Home or Work network. So it creates a network named ProtonVPN1, 2, 3... 50... It doesn't seem to reuse the same networks.
How to fix this?
On Ubuntu the GUI is quite primitive, for example I can't seem to set up split tunneling. Also, I would like it to connect immediately on startup, because currently I need to press a button.
Lastly, on ProtonVPN it failed to connect to a network and it brought down the entire wifi. Ubuntu said a network adapter is not found. I needed to restart the computer to enable the wifi again.
Edit: Win7 issue only appears when using Wireguard. If you switch to TCP/UDP then it's ok. As per ProtonVPN support, they will never fix this issue.
Hi,
I installed the app (ProtonVPN: v1.7.0 (library: v3.7.0 / api-client: v0.7.1)) following there recommandation : https://protonvpn.com/support/official-linux-vpn-fedora/
but I would like to know if there is an option in the app to start it automatically on boot ?

I've started using ufw on my install with my protonvpn connection. It works fine, no problems with the vpn while having ufw enabled, but I see this message a lot in the dmesg output:
[UFW BLOCK] IN=proton0 OUT= MAC= SRC=<ip address of the vpn i connected to> DST=<another ip address> LEN=52 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=<5 numbers> DF PROTO=TCP SPT=443 DPT=33140 WINDOW=252 RES=0x00 ACK URGP=0
ufw rules:
To Action From

44444 ALLOW IN Anywhere
Anywhere ALLOW IN 192.168.0.0/24
6881:6891/tcp (Deluge) ALLOW IN Anywhere
22 LIMIT IN Anywhere
44444 (v6) ALLOW IN Anywhere (v6)
6881:6891/tcp (Deluge (v6)) ALLOW IN Anywhere (v6)
22 (v6) LIMIT IN Anywhere (v6)
do i need to add other rules or is that just normal output?
Whenever I use ProtonVPN for desktop, it is very inconsistent and slow. I chose a server which claims to be under 80% load, and do not have enough bandwidth to watch 1080p YouTube, or even sync my email. I am using the free version, but I would like to know why ProtonVPN is so slow. No, I have tested; it is not the internet where I am. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Without the VPN active, I can connect fine. I can reach other ports on the same server just fine with the VPN active, just not 27017. Weirdly, if i portscan the server with the VPN active, it appears like every port is open, when they are not. I am using the openvpn profile on ubuntu 20.04.3
as titled the protonvpn on debain wont work, suggests no internet connectivity however box is online and pinging 1.1.1.1 no issues, can also browse etc - any ideas?
UPDATE, ive tried the basic network settings reset, even a hard unplug and plug again.
Title says it all. Why is Proton better?
I got an error with protonvpn few days before and I deleted it. But when I tried to re-install it it's giving me errors. The pacman doesn't show that there are any package named protonvpn and the protonvpn-cli which is intalled from yay giving me following error.
```
Traceback (most recent call last):
Β File "/usr/bin/protonvpn-cli", line 33, in <module>
Β Β Β sys.exit(load_entry_point('protonvpn-cli==3.11.0', 'console_scripts', 'protonvpn-cli')())
Is this because of python 3.10 upgrade?
Or will it let my ISP see what I'm doing?
In the settings of the Windows 10 client, there is an option for custom DNS servers, and I was wondering which DNS servers people here used that were trustworthy and secure?
Can anyone suggest some custom DNS servers I should use? Thank you.
The installation of ProtonVPN is just a pattern that I observed my last couple installs but, honestly I dont why my DNS breaks for some reason.
Quick google search, and I found a temporary fix which is editing resolve.conf
to say 1.1.1.1 but some parts are still broken.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
After a recent update, I've been having trouble with what I assume is the killswitch feature in ProtonVPN. As far as I can tell, the ProtonVPN GUI app on Linux will attempt to download a list of ProtonVPN servers before it will let you do anything else. What this means is that if there is a problem with the killswitch feature (ie, you cannot connect to anything) then the ProtonVPN GUI app will never let you access any part of the GUI, as it will always appear to be loading. This means that you cannot use the GUI app to disable the killswitch.
Since I had no internet, I figured uninstalling ProtonVPN would be the next best step. Unforunately, this did not remove any of the network changes enabled by the killswitch. So, I now have no ProtonVPN and no internet.
In any case, I'm wondering the following:
Is there a way to reverse the networking changes set by the ProtonVPN GUI app via command line?
Is the CLI app still available? The GUI app has honestly been inferior in every way.
It looks like the solution can be found here, thanks to /u/anonymous037104 :
I have had a continuing and expanding problem with being able to connect to numerous sites when connected to ProtonVPN. I have tried to switch from Smat protocol (which typically uses WireGuard) back to OpenVPN, but the problem persists. This happens on news sites as well as banking and brokerage sites, as well as online streaming services. More and more I find this happening. I have found that when reaching a site gets hung up, in all cases disconnecting the VPN results in an immediate connection. While I see this as a continuing and growing problem with MacOS and iOS apps, I have not seen the same with the Windows application.
As I am running a new MacBook Pro M1 and and iPhone 13 -- both with the latest OS' and the latest ProtonVPN versions, I remain perplexed. Any thought out there -- I have contacted Proton VPN folks, but so far they can offer no explanation. BTW, deleting and re-installung the app on my iPhone did not solve the problem.
