Posting on mobile here. I'm a student and user of ArcMap, and I'm working on a project that compares life expectancy data against other variables that may or may not be affecting said life expectancy.
I am acquainted with cartogram mapping in which enumeration unit shape and size are altered. I don't understand how you actually go about mapping that data in ArcMap, however.
Does anyone have any advice on how to use ArcMap to make this type of cartogram map?

Hello! I'm trying to make a proportional symbol map for Marijuana arrests and really want to use a Marijuana leaf instead of the basic shapes...does anyone know how to upload your own symbols? Step by step instructions would help! :)
Hi I am trying to create a proportional symbol map in ArcMap (version 10.7.1) of COVID-19 case counts in the US at both the state and county level. Obviously things are getting a little crowded at the county level and I want to combat this by making the symbols transparent but I am having a hard time. I have done the following:
- R click on layer and convert features to graphics
- selected all graphics
- through drawing tool convert graphics to feature, saved as a new shapefile
- added in new shapefile
When I do this the new shapefile of converted graphics has all the symbols for each county but doesn't keep the symbol size which is obviously the most important part. I can adjust the transparency on the new converted graphics layer but now it is useless as all the attribute data is gone and I can't make the symbols the correct size anymore. Anyone have any pointers for me?? Thanks in advance :)

Sometimes maps will have golden balloons or bonus fireworks symbols on them, those I understand, but I also see this military symbol on some maps and I have no idea what it does.
It is an orange symbol with the Engineer, Ace, and Mortar monkey (sorry if I got their names wrong).
I'm using proportional symbols in a map I've created, and I don't want the legend items to be named as the columns in my attribute table, since they are all weird abbreviations and I am creating a final map for a report.
I tried going to Properties > Symbology > Features and changing the description, but when I add a description, ArcGIS converts it to a single symbol and I lose the proportional symbols.
TL;DR: How can I preserve proportional symbols and rename the heading for them in my legend?

The white symbol on the tan map blends in way too easy. Make camps green again!

I am toying with the idea of a ww1 boardgame and have been looking at unit symbols, obviously NATO was not firmed yet but unit map symbols if the british were fairly close, all i can find if german symbols are based from ww2, but even then how were they drawn on maps (stuff like artillery was a aet of lines without a defined edge) and information would be great.
Additionally if anyone knows of symbols used by russian and austrian armies i would be very interested too.

I've always loved the idea of Stellaris. I have multiple friends who play and tell such great stories. It finally came down to $15 on PSN, so I bought it.
I... just didn't realize the idea is embedded in a level of detail that's insanely more granular than what I want. I can't read the map or understand the state of my species! There are so many symbols and unexplained resources and levels. I thought the game started with sending out explorer ships, but it's so obtuse I can't even understand if the situation in my home system is good or bad or even allows me to build ships.
Is there like a PDF I can print with a key to the symbols and what can be converted into what? And also why I would want to do that? I need a Stellaris-to-English dictionary here! Do you all just play with some wiki or something open in front of you?
