Hello people, I was wondering if there's any info on why the Princess Magriet's children are styled as princes, although she's married with a commoner? The Dutch tittles are quite confusing, for example: Princess Irenre's children and grandchildren are princes because she married the Duke of Parma-Piacenza. Obviously the Queen's (now Princess) Beatrix offspring are princes too, but only the children from Willem Alexander are princesses, the others are simply counts and countesses of Orange-Nassau. And Princess Christina's children are commoners, since she married a commoner. However as I said the children of Magriet are grandsons of Queen Juliana in the female line, their mother is married with a commoner and they bear the title, that's quite confusing.
The subsequent offspring would then be King of England and the Netherlands. What would mean this in practice for the two countries?
I was born in Philadelphia and work in D.C., but my family is from Puerto Rico. I have aunts, uncles and cousins still living there. They all live in the northeast corner of the island -- an area that faced little-to-no damage after the quake. Thankfully they were safe — their homes secure. But feeling safe is not a reality for thousands of Puerto Ricans who live on the opposite corner of the island. Near Guanica, Guayanilla, Yauco and Ponce, thousands of small earthquakes have been shaking the area since Dec. 28.
While I’ve covered stories about Puerto Rico as much as I could from Washington, in the aftermath of the earthquakes, I knew that in order to truly see what my boricuas were doing, I needed to go there myself. To see what is actually going on con mis propio ojos — with my own eyes.
