A list of puns related to "Prime lens"
So as a person that is still incredibly new to photography and videography, I still have limitted equipment. I am still learning on what my camera can do and what it's limitations are, and learning composition techniques.
I own a Micro-43 system (Panasonic G85) with the standard kitlens (12-60 F/3.5 - 5.6) and the 25mm F/1.8. I am currently in some sort of quest to figure out which way I want to go in terms of acquiring lenses.
I pulled the trigger on the 25mm a little too fast. I was getting all hung up about the conversations online about "How the crop-sensor + kitlens wont really work in low light situations" and how the "nifty fifty" is considered an all-rounder for many photographers.
Although I can agree that the low-light capabilities of this specific prime are indeed very nice, I ran into 2 situations:
Not only that, at the same time I feel like I am missing some sort of flexibility. Obviously, primes are usually sharper and are better in difficult lighting, but to me, swapping over has been quite an annoyance so far. I am more of a run-and-gun shooter, and missed quite a lot of moments due the limitations of the prime-lens. Somewhere in the future I will be also using this camera for video, so a zoom lens will probably be the best things I could invest in. The zoom that I had in mind was the Olympus 12-40 F/2.8.
The only thing that is holding me back a bit is how quite a lot of people seem to be quite vocal about how zoom lenses "aren't professional and shouldn't be used for professional work". I wonder how some of you think about this?
I'm picking up an A7RIV and I'm trying to decide on a 2 prime lens kit. I mainly shoot travel, landscape, and portraits. I'm trying to decide between a 24mm f1.4 GM + 50mm f1.2 GM kit and a 35mm f1.4 GM + 85mm f1.4 DG DN kit.
The crop ability of the 61mp sensor has me leaning toward wider lenses but I want to hear your opinions.
Looking mainly at the 35mm focal length. What would be your suggestion? The three lens Iβm really interested in are the Canon 35mm 1.4 ii, and the Tamron 35mm 1.4 and 1.8 vc. What are your thoughts on the lens mentioned?
Hello everyone! I've been getting back into photography for the past few months after about 6 years of not picking up a camera. I got a deal on a budget Canon T3i with the kit lens, the same camera I shot with before and my wife recently picked up a Fujifilm X-H1 with a 16mm 1:1.4, huge learning curve for me but I love shooting with the prime lens, it gets me more involved into my photos, but the 16mm just isn't strong enough. I typically shoot landscapes, buildings, candid portraits, vehicles & very little close-up nature.
I've heard the 35mm is possibly the best place to start for the jack of all trades but for a name brand lens, it's a bit out of my price range. I found this [ Amazon.com: YONGNUO YN35mm F2 Lens 1:2 AF/MF Wide-Angle Fixed/Prime Auto Focus Lens for Canon EF Mount EOS Camera: Electronics]. But just wanted to throw this question out there for anyone that might have some better advice. I appreciate ya'lls input!
I just bite the bullet and got A7Siii and now I am torn between the two 24-70mm lens brand both of them are on amazon prime so I get it tomorrow but it the matter of what to get. Also I am looking for a prime lens that is an all rounder when I donβt feel like carrying a zoom lens; G master recommend is fine.
Ps, I know it might been ask a lot but after reading I am still indecisive. I saw a review on YouTube and the guy show that Sigma is slightly sharper than Gm but Gm is better at focusing but Some reviewer said otherwise.
Hasselblad - $750 OBO
The body is actually in freaking pristine condition, I just want to buy a 500C/M or above so I'm selling this and keeping everything else. Knob and focusing screen included of course.
$450 shipped through PayPal G&S, dog not included.
I recently bought the A7iii with 85mm 1.8 FE sony lens. For me its an upgrade from APSC to Full Frame. Been trying for this upgrade since last 2 years, finally i was able to save some and spend the same on the units. Totally happy with the outputs I am getting, its a huge upgrade for me.
Photography is not my profession for living, some one who loves taking photos. That being said, I need to full fill the missing focal ranges. 85 mm is definitely an awesome unit but cant cover shorter distances.
Confused whether to save some money for prime or a variable zoom lens (24-70, 28-70 or similar ). I will be happy with third party lenses like Sigma or Tamaron. I found some of the native sony lenses are expensive and for my eyes the output looks almost similar when compared with the 3rd party ones. If the native lenses are on sale then can give a try.
I am looking at these models right now, the reviews looks decent though.
Tamaron 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 (Model A063)
Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN
Any better suggestion for me?
Even if its a prime and its a must have, I am willing to move around to get that one shot.
Looking forward !!!
Thanks in advance.
I'm adding a 24 f/2.8 to my 15-85 and 70-200 f/4. I'm hoping the lack of zoom pushes my photography forward, but I'm also worried the limitations will discourage me. Has anyone else had a similar situation? What was your experience?
Hi all! I have a Nikon Z6 that I've been using with the kit lens (24-70/4 S) for awhile now. I'm looking to finally invest in my first prime lens, and I'm not sure whether to go for a 35mm or 50mm (specifically between NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.8 S and NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.8 S). I tried to look at my images to see which focal length I usually tend to use, and I'm pretty all over the place. I mainly do fine art work with some occasional documentary. I photograph a lot of people in my work, but I don't know if I'd say it's portraiture in the traditional sense (not much bokeh and not just head and shoulders). I'm also right now not often photographing indoors in small spaces due to COVID. I'm in school right now for photography, so I'm willing to invest a bit in a lens. I figure at some point in the next few years I'll get whichever one I don't get now, but I wondered if one was better to get first. Thank you for your help!
Priced $123 including PayPal G&S fees and Shipping CONUS. Shipping will certainly eat into the price as it is HEAVY. Sold to u/Girthy_LongShaft
This is certainly a weird one. Received this as payment for services rendered from a guy whose lenses i repaired. It works, and I am amazed how mechanical SLRS were truly built to last forever. Though I think the slower shutter speeds might not be that accurate.
First impressions, I loved the front facing shutter button as well as aligned with a button on the lens, but it was heavy as a rock! My old Canon F1- New would be light weight next to this! A quick internet search showed me that it was possibly the heaviest 35mm SLR, and with the lens I have it actually weighs about 2.9 lbs!. There's a fun article on retina rescue on this camera I suggest you read even if you don't need a film SLR.
I have no idea why these are priced up to heaven on the fleaBay, but I think my price is less than half of what the lens alone seems to fetch for. It's just about what my work was worth for and a couple of cups of coffee.
Price $48 including shipping CONUS and PayPal G&S fees. SOLD TO u/192747585939
Lens is in excellent shape - comes with front OEM metal cap, rear OEM lens cap. Glass is free of scratches, haze, or fungus - has slight dust. An almost pancake lens, impressive sharpness for it's price and size.
Sold a lot here in the past couple of months as I am downsizing, and have good feedback.
Hey guys, so I wonder if anyone had some experience in this topic. I am not a professional photographer, but I like to make quality photos for later framing and hanging them on my wall. I'm using a Lumix GX80 with the following lenses:
- Kit 12-32mm (barely never)
- Samyang 12mm f2 (fully manual I just love it!)
- G Vario 45-200mm f4-5.6 (often used)
- Canon FD 70-210mm f4 (wanted to love it, but too bulky and hard to focus right)
As you might recognise, I don't really have a 50mm equivalent prime lens (apart from the kit lens, but let's just not talk about that).
Since I already have an FD-MFT adapter I considered buying a Canon FD 50mm f1.8. I could get if for around 40β¬ in good shape.
OR should I rather spend double the money for a 50mm f1.4 S.S.C? The collective opinion is that it's superior over the 1.8.
But then I am already in the territory of the 25mm f1.7 Lumix fix focal length lenses which have autofocus and stabilisation. They go for around 90-110β¬. I know, it's far from the glorious Leica variant, but is it comparable/better than the FDs? Which one would you consider in my situation? The main usage would be portrait and urban photography.
Hi there,
Recently got the OG and wanted some purchasing advice if that's cool.
I got the OG as practice camera and I thought it would be a good idea to use a prime as I thought working with one focal length would help in getting comforatble with framing.
So my question is what focal length would serve me best to start with a 12mm which is the FF equivalent of around 35mm or a 17mm which is around 50mm FF equivalent?
I have my eye on the Meike 12mm or the Laowa 17mm.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks folks.
:)
I am looking for slightly wider shots and clearer details, maybe the zoom does not do so well?? Maybe a fixed lens will have better optics? I need the widest lens, just before "fisheye".
And will a lens hood make a difference? Thanks all...

$222 for J5 + Kit lenses
$111 for the 18.5mm f/1.8 'normal' prime alone
$309 for everything.
Up for sale is my Nikon 1 J5 system that's been a joy to use for a few years but am trying to limit myself to two systems now between my Fuji gear and my Ricoh gear.
The Nikon 1 j5 (Silver Black) is in excellent shape - the sensor is clean; the touchscreen and buttons all work perfectly. There's hardly any wear that can be seen. I do not have a body cap, but it'll come covered with the 10-30mm VR lens - will come with the strap, an OEM battery, OEM charger and a used Lowepro Adventura SH 110 ii bag. The camera takes a micro-SD card I won't be including one as I've been using one of my Raspberry Pi micro-SD cards that'll go back into it's earlier project.
10-30mm VR Kit lens (Silver) - 27 - 81mm equivalent - works perfectly - Has a scratch on the front element and a few cosmetic scrapes - I haven't found any effects on images at any focal length but haven't looked through hard either. from prior experiences with other scratched lenses, I am assuming it might have flare effects when shot into the sun. The lens is included free with the camera and not be included in the final price.
30-110mm VR lens (Silver- 80-270mm equivalent)- In excellent cosmetic and working shape - comes with both lens caps and lens Hood. Hasn't seen much use other than to shoot a few backyard birds because I try to use my Fuji/m43rds if I go to the zoo etc.
Nikon 1 Nikkor 18.5mm F1.8 Prime lens (Black) - 50mm equivalent - This is by far my most used lens for the J5 - It makes the J5 a very portable 50mm pocket rocket. It was usually in the jacket pocket or slung over the back with the strap while biking. It comes with both caps and original box.
I've been using my Nikon D3300 with the kit lenses (18-55mm, 55mm-200mm) since 2017. I recently got a job taking photos for my college campus, so I want to get a prime lens now that I'm getting some income from taking photos - But I'm having a hard time deciding which one to get.
People usually recommend the 35mm 1.8f for peoples first crop senor prime lens, but I feel like I hardly take my 55-200 lens off when I'm taking photos around campus. I'm leaning towards the 50mm, but is it worth getting the 35mm and getting used to using that distance for things like building/nature/candid student photos in a heavily wooded area? Or is the 50mm better for general use. Thanks for the help π
Hey everyone,
Since I've been scammed on this subreddit before, sale will be conducted via Paypal G&S only. Unless you have alot of reference.s. It would be great if UV filter is included aswell but it's not a requirement.
Thanks for looking, looking forward to hearing offers. Cheers
Trying to buy my first lens (i worked with the kit lens for a year i feel like it's time for a new one) I have done my research regarding pros and cons for each but one side of me wanna get the 50mm cuz of the nice 1.8 aperture, and the other side of me is leaning towards the versatility of a zoom lens. Very undecided & looking for what you guys may suggest.
thanks everyone. i'll buy 50mm, and work with it for a while then i'll get a zoom lens.
