Hey guys, I am writing my undergrad thesis on a topic relating to rationalism and empiricism and I was previously under the impression that empiricism was currently more respected, at least in regards to problems that can be approached scientifically.
However, a chapter I am reading from Jesse Prinz in 'Beyond Human Nature' is saying western philosophy has taken a swing back from empiricism towards rationalism. I suppose if we look at the current "accepted" ideas on things such as free will, agency and morality there is a tendency to lean towards the rationalist perspective and favor Sellars manifest image over the scientific image, but these arguments seem extremely weak to me (such as Dennetts conception of free will due to his insistence on taking this manifest image as superior to the scientific).
What else is Prinz referring to when discussing a swing back to rationalism? He says western phil went from rationalism, to empiricism, and now back to rationalism. Would love some more clarification or reading material, as I do not have access to the chapter Prinze discusses this idea in more detail.
