A list of puns related to "People and Things"
This is not a post about whether the protests are right or wrong. Our opinions may all differ on such a subjective topic of right or wrongness.
Over the past three years people have been talking about how /r/Canada is being flooded by right-wing nutjobs. I didn't see it often enough to consider it overrun, particularly as I am closer to centre than to the true left (I think). I saw the occasional racist remark get a few upvotes but get buried at the bottom, and anything absurd was downvoted into inconspicuousness, though never removed by mods. I did notice that any time I mentioned injustices at First Peoples (imposed governments, unfair treaty negotiation, residential schools), while I was voted positive, I would get an abundance of comments ranging from "they deserve(d) it" to "it wasn't actually that bad" to "it never happened, that's liberal propaganda."
That has changed over the last month with the rail blockades. The floodgates are open. Every new and rising post over at the friendly "real" Canadian sub is an opinion piece from a rigjt-wing publication on how police are sympathizing with protesters, how indigenous peoples should put up with being conquered, how oil and gas is the only economic future for Canada, how Eastern Canada is apparently suffering from massive economic collapse due to these blockades, and how all indigenous people want the pipeline built. I don't care what your views on the pipeline are, or on the protests, but the fact is that the views being presented as Canadian on that subreddit are anything but. They are not civil. They feel more like someone from the Carolinas complaining about how certain statues are being taken down. It feels like a bunch of oil-industry propaganda. What on earth is going on?
How did a sub that was previously right-leaning begin absolutely smothering anyone trying to have a discussion and share viewpoints that weren't aligned with "jail everyone involved and send in armed police."
I would like to preface this by saying that Re:Zero is certainly not flawless or free of all the problems of isekais, but I do think Tappei intended it to be a reflection on isekais and "otaku" culture. And many examples can definitely be seen throughout the anime. In many isekais, we have the perfect, flawless, and often overpowered main character, who gets surrounded by handfuls of women swooning at his every move. However, in Re:Zero, we have a very flawed main character, whose flaws continue to be highlighted throughout the story.
His only power is Return by Deathβ and while yes, one could argue that the concept of it is extremely overpowered, in practice, it is so horribly traumatizing to Subaru that the cost nearly outweighs the benefits on many occasions. In reality, his power is not actually all-powerful, and it's really about how he manages it. It's not about him "using" Return by Death, it's about him struggling and many times failing to make things turn out all right with such little natural power that he has, and Return by Death giving him a second chance at fixing things, even if its methods to do so are brutal.
In fact, I believe that Season 2 illustrated this perfectly. In Season 2, he is beginning to lose himself in Return by Death and forgetting that he doesn't deserve to die either. This is highlighted through his conversation with all of the witches, and I feel like his deal with Roswaal near the start of Season 2 Part 2 even more perfectly wraps it up in a neat bow: a problem that cannot be solved by Return by Death. His deal with Roswaal is something that he has to overcome with his own strength and the resources available to him. In sum: Return by Death is not just some overpowered tool at his disposal, which is more than enough to set Subaru apart from other isekai protagonists.
However, that's not all! There's also the fact of Subaru's personality, which I believe also brings me to the point of how Re:Zero could be considered a commentary on "otaku" culture. Subaru is, essentially, a representation of us. The "weebs." Those of us who wish they were in an anime world or believe that if they were, they would be the protagonist and everything would be sunshine and rainbows. And in making Subaru have such an attitude, Re:Zero is quick to highlight all the flaws within it (which, I would argue, is why many people might dislike itβ because it reminds them too much of themselves). They show how his main character/savior complex quickly
... keep reading on reddit β‘In my opinion, getting a tax refund just means you gave the government an interest free loan. People are always saying "Oh I got $4k in taxes how great is that" but in actuality you could have had an extra $75 each paycheck if you are paid weekly, thats approx $300 a month lost to overpaying the government.
Even if you didn;t need an additional $300 a month, you could have invested that money in literally any other way and you would get more return on it, resulting in more overall money.
I file my taxes in a way that I owe about $100-$200 this way Im the one getting the loan. Am I the crazy one here?
As above. I'm planning on moving from home relatively soon, next year or so. I've been researching on things that I feel like I need to know about. Renters insurance, credit history, and stuff like that.
But me being woefully inexperienced in renting on my own and the unexpected costs that go into it, I wanted to ask what are some unexpected costs when it comes to renting a house or an apartment for the first time, that younger people might over look or not even know about?
On mobile so sorry about any formatting issues if any.
Edit: After getting a couple of responses here and there, I feel much more confident about this. Thanks.
Edit: strength, resistances
Without wanting to point towards any specific topics (not that they are too hard to find, given some are right now quite high on this sub front page), but I find all these threads asking about certain events in their last games to be utterly useless. It is always the same. Some guy here asks if he did something wrong for whatever reason, tells the story, and everyone agrees his opponent was a bitch/childish/was wrong. 99% of the stories play out this way and I honestly am beginning to doubt how many of those stories are real (or if the OPs are giving an accurate picture of the events).
I was wondering if we could consolidate them in some way, for example, Monday already has the vent stickied thread. Couldn't we modify it to put these kind of threads in such a thread too? Would lead to a more overall enjoyable sub experience, as these kind of threads have little value, don't really focus on EDH and comments from time to time can get a tad nasty.
Just a thought I had.
I have ran into plenty of people both online and in real life who talk about how awkward they are or about how they have no friends yet that's clearly not the case on both fronts. Throughout the years I've had people tell me that because they made an ill-timed joke or they accidentally combined two words into one that that makes them socially awkward. I see people I follow on Instagram all the time, specifically very attractive girls, talking about how they have no friends and then a week later they post stories of themselves out with a group of people having drinks / doing something fun.
I'm not saying that we have the final say in what constitutes friendlessness or social awkwardness. However to me it just seems like people have a fundamental misunderstanding of what social awkwardness actually is. They think that just because they messed up something one time two weeks ago that means that they are socially awkward. Never mind the fact that they have socially flawless conversations with six different people at work and then hang out with the group of four other people on the weekend and go out and do something fun.
It reminds me of those people in your class who would tell you that they are going to fail a test and then they get their test back a week later and they got a 97% on it while you got a 55%. My best friend is a prime example of this. I'm consistently amazed at how he's able to string together social situations and bring groups of people together completely flawlessly. An example was a few years ago myself, him, and three of his friends were at the bar playing quarters. We accidentally shot a quarter onto the table next to us. Normally, you would just apologize, get the quarter, and go on about your business. However, my friend walked over, got the quarter, cracked a joke and then made the people at that table laugh. They then ended up joining us and we went back to one of their places afterwards and smoked some weed and hung out until daylight.
This is just one example of many in which he has stringed together situations that make my social anxiety flare up just thinking about. Yet, he maintains that he's socially awkward.
I really hope that this doesn't come across as gatekeeping or anything because everyone deals with their own individual struggles but just from the outside, it seems like a lot of people who complain about what people like me actually suffer from are misconstruing and mislabeling something that seriously affects so m
... keep reading on reddit β‘Long story short, I was basically raised in a privileged family and am on my own now, but realized something today. Although the people in my family have a lot of money from inherited business/business ties they actually don't really spend their money too well. For instance my one family member that has a salary that's astronomical says he has no retirement fund or savings and needs to keep working at his business to sustain himself (I feel like this is very unusual since he has very extravagant expenses such as belonging to multiple country clubs and having many vehicles/houses).
I feel like I've been misled on how to spend my money and it's made my life hard. For instance, the last car I've had was a lease. I was told to lease by my fam that claimed it was a cheap option, and it seemed good as a monthly payment and I didn't really think about it too hard. But now I can't believe how much I would've saved if I had just put that initial payment down on a used car that was decent and could last a long time as opposed to a relatively new car that I'd only have for 3 years. I'm not someone that really even needs to be driving a new car. They just told me that was how it's done so I just assumed it was the way to go for some reason lol
I know nothing and am financially illiterate. Is there a place/website that teaches people better financial skills. Sorry for the long post but I think I only now just realized that some bad habits have been ingrained into me (after hearing that one family member has no retirement fund and little savings [which is the most absurd thing I've ever heard]).
Please be nice, I know this post might sound ridiculous. I just want help.
Because yiay hate myself

Title should be fairly self-explanatory. The internet can be a bit toxic at times, but let's cast that aside temporarily and bask in the glory of the shows (or movies) that you love the most.

Yes, we've seen other broken things before, and some will argue it was worse, but regardless, they felt like genuine mistakes, and the problem was their inability to fix things in a timely manner. They were getting better about that, but this is different.
This isn't some deck they didn't think of, or card interactions that ended up being greater than the sum of their parts, or a complicated effect that was more useful than they thought, these are just straight up dumb power creep cards intentionally given to Demon Hunter to make them OP. Any idiot could see how broken cards like priestess and skull are. Then people got to play it early and confirmed it, then despite all hope to the contrary it went live and now both ladders and arena are in free fall.
Even if the community somehow finds one or two decks that squeak out a better than 50% winrate against them, with as much hate tech as possible, then what? The whole ladder is those two decks? Even if the meta changes, Demon Hunter needs nerfs. Both things can be true. They are just objectively too strong, and all the initial data coming is shows it.
We need swift and decisive action from the developers and frankly, they need to learn not to do this in the future.
Seriously, why am I allowed to only post every 10 minutes on a comment I got? I think posting a comment under a Post should have that 10 minute limit, but a discussion can seriously get handicapped by that stupid, stupid rule.
I love it, even when Iβm not in the mood and someone just picks a fight about something as stupid as grammar when the post is perfectly understandable. Sometimes I just love to watch the back and forth of wits or insults being hurled. Itβs like watching βcomment boxingβ or something. I hope it never goes away. I love it when someone posts a cute puppy and someone dives in to tell them how cruel the breeding process is or whatever. Itβs just lit, itβs always so fucking lit. Cut me down.
It always seems like I have "friends", but aren't friends people who actively want to hang out with you? Should I just accept that no one actively wants me around, and just insert myself into group conversations or outings to avoid loneliness? Is there something wrong with me?
