Poe's Law and the failure of TNO as a satire of Hearts of Iron IV

Earlier today I saw a post on this subreddit that I felt I have to address. It was a statement asking the seemingly earnest question of what faction people aligned with in the mod (O.F.N, Unity Pact, Greater Prosperity Sphere). While I hope that the post was some kind of joke, the comments on and language of the post made me think that it was created with the genuine expectation that there was any debate on which faction was better. This greatly saddens me as I see this as a massive failure in projecting the message TNO is attempting to convey.

The vanilla game, in it's effort to remain "uncontroversial," refuses to acknowledge the atrocities committed by the Nazis, and illustrates this terrifying period in our history to simply a matter of building factories and expanding your respective color. In the vanilla game, all the nations of the world as well as their ideologies; from the Nazis, to the United States, to Japan, to France, and the Soviet Union, are relegated to ambiguous colors which for all intents and purposes, are totally neutral and exactly the same. That is, in vanilla HOI4, a word dominated by a grey blob labeled "German Reich" is no different than a world with many colored blobs with a tag saying "democracy." This unfortunately makes the vanilla game extremely conducive to wish fulfillment for sympathizers of the Germans, or those who simply are "history buffs" glorifying war while remaining ignorant of its human aspects.

To provide a commentary on this genre of video games, and hopefully prevent the spread of these ideas aestheticizing war and the suffering of millions with the colors of a flag or a map, The New Order stands as an idol in the genre of grand strategy. It is not only a technical achievement, implementing a complex representation of the macroeconomics of its world, but it is an achievement in story telling as well. The characters within this narrative (most of the time) are believable actors reacting to a truly unthinkable world (which could be recreated by a moderately successful Germany playthrough in vanilla). It is in both of these contexts, the material and human realities of war and governance, in which the mod shines and manifests it's purpose, as a satire of the blind map painting of vanilla HOI4.

That is why I am so saddened by some members of the community simply not getting the message. The culture and audience originally satirized by this mod seems to be increasingly present. This post listed the Einheitspakt

Circulating levels of linoleic acid and HDL-cholesterol are major determinants of 4-hydroxynonenal protein adducts in patients with heart failure

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/labs/pmc/articles/PMC3909262/

Methods and results Circulating levels of 4HNE-P were evaluated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in 71 control subjects and 61 ambulatory symptomatic HF patients along with various other clinically- and biochemically-relevant parameters, including other oxidative stress markers, and total levels of fatty acids from all classes, which reflect both free and bound to cholesterol, phospholipids and triglycerides. All HF patients had severe systolic functional impairment despite receiving optimal evidence-based therapies. Compared to controls, HF patients displayed markedly lower circulating levels of HDL- and LDL-cholesterol, which are major PUFA carriers, as well as of PUFA of the n-6 series, specifically linoleic acid (LA; P=0.001). Circulating 4HNE-P in HF patients was similar to controls, albeit multiple regression analysis revealed that LA was the only factor that was significantly associated with circulating 4HNE-P in the entire population (R2=0.086; P=0.02). In HF patients only, 4HNE-P was even more strongly associated with LA (P=0.003) and HDL-cholesterol (p<0.0002). Our results demonstrate that 4HNE-P levels, expressed relative to HDL-cholesterol, increase as HDL-cholesterol plasma levels decrease in the HF group only.

Your employer will work you to death and not even realize it. How I was stressed, overworked and went into total heart failure, while not being aware of it. How I survived and got my life back…and didn’t change employers.

They will work you to death and not think twice about it. Never work more than you have to and steal as much time as you can to life a better life.

I work in consulting and we are constantly having to meet the deadlines of our clients. It is good pay with good benefits, and tons of PTO if you can take it. With reason, this is fine. A few year ago, things were not so fine, and I ended up, in my early 30s, in heart failure and requiring a transplant.

The work culture under my old boss was that you do whatever has to be done, even if they meant working all weekend to meet a Monday deadline. He was near retirement and just wanted to get out so he never really thought or cared how we were mentally coping with the workload. He just wanted shit done.

I was probably averaging 50-60 hours a week and it seemed normal, I was stressed. In a weird way I was addicted to it. We didn’t have enough staff to get the job done. There were upper management changes that made life a living hell.

At the time I also put a ton of effort into a proposal that seemed like it was internally sabotaged but another team that trying to pursue work from the same client. In many cases, our clients try to spread around work to different companies, so they wouldn’t have accepted both proposals. This was a major defeat for me at the time.

People on my team started to quit, elevating my stress levels further. The company also fired propel that I cared about.

Here I am thinking it’s all normal, but in the back of my mind I know it was not sustainable. There are very few companies that do what we do, so I felt trapped.

At the time, my wife and I had been trying to have a baby, that process has been going on for year and we started IVF so that had also been a major ongoing burden. We had just finished a cycle.

While all of this is happening I was getting sicker and sicker. This goes on for weeks then into months. My doctors brushed it off. I’m not saying this was directly caused by my work, but I caught a virus and it was damaging my heart.

I am at home sick, playing video game and all the sudden I feel dizzy, can’t form words, it was terrifying. It passes.

Earlier that year I had scheduled a physical many months in advance. So I am really sick now, I figured I would go to my physical and have this issue addressed again (after being ignored by other doctors).

One look at me and my doctor send me to the ER. They drained two liters of fluid from my lungs. My heart rate was over 18

What is the main cause of heart failure?

The phrase "heart failure" is often used to describe the condition when the heart becomes ineffective or is no longer able to pump enough blood throughout the body. However, there are two different types of heart failure according to the severity of the condition - one can be called congestive heart failure. It requires some sort of medical attention if it goes untreated, but it isn't always taken as seriously as true heart failure.
