A list of puns related to "Pasilla"
Sam's favorite pepper to use, the Poblano, gets confused with another name quite often, and even Sam himself has done it!
Poblano is the correct name for the pepper, and when it's been dried, it goes by another recognizable name, "Ancho Pepper" and we've seen Sam use those as well.
Now here's the problem, "Pasilla" is the name given to the DRIED form of a pepper called "Chilaca". So using Poblano and Pasilla interchangeably is wrong on two levels, not the same pepper, and one is fresh, one is dried. I've made a comment about this on the YouTube channel a couple times, but it's a comment on a popular YouTube channel, I'm sure it gets buried quickly. Even Sam has asked what the difference was, so I thought I'd throw the info into the sub, so even if Sam doesn't see it, at least a few more people will now know the difference.
Grocery stores are too blame for this confusion largely. If you go to buy a Poblano, I'm guessing the label said "Poblano/Pasilla". The reason that I've found through research is that at some point, because the Chilaca and Poblano look "similar" they got mixed together on store shelves here in America. Someone decided that pasilla sounded better than chilaca and no one ever corrected the mistake. Think about coriander and cilantro. Same plant. In America we know coriander as the seeds, cilantro as the leaves, but in other parts of the world, the plant is just called coriander and if you want the seeds you just ask for "coriander seeds". Bottom line, words and language are wierd. Also, my local grocery store knows me as the guy that knows too much about Poblano peppers.. now you can be that person too!

Iβm making chilorio in a couple of days and wanted to use dried ancho chile peppers but have to use guajillos or pasillas, instead. What would you all recommend? Thanks!

Very close opening round. Leo had a lot of success with body work and straight rights while Fulton jabbed. Fulton possibly edged it but this is already looking like it will be a very close fight.
Leo bringing the fight to Fulton attacking the body and Fulton firing back and returning the body work. Fulton really clean right hand and Leo just continues to go to the body. These guys have both fully committed to a phone booth fight and thus far Fulton is landing the flashier looking shots.

... keep reading on reddit β‘In Mexico there is a higher end restaurant called Porfirios with an appetizer just called "Smoked with pasilla and agave honey". The app is a cheese similar to panela in a pasilla and honey syrup. The syrup is pretty straightforward, however identifying the cheese has been tough. The menu says it is "brought from Tenosique Tobasco" and I assume that is referencing the cheese. However it never names the type of cheese and I was too drunk on mescal to ask (womp womp).
Anyone have any thoughts? I have conferred with two chefs who specialize in Mexican cuisine from all over the country and none of us can figure out what cheese would come from Tenosique specifically.
