A list of puns related to "Partition of India"
I was reading an essay from historian Bipan Chandra where he remarked that Gandhi failed to understand the proper nature of religious divide and failed to counter. Are there any sources which study this in detail?
We see posts here about muslims wanting to leave India almost every day, but many of them can't leave because of financial reasons or no other country accepts them. So, when this mental pressure keeps on increasing and when enough number of muslims feel the need to leave, and then if they start protesting for a separate country for Muslims, then can't that cause another partition?
There are 200million muslims and that number is growing at good speed. So, that is enough number of people to form another country. Do you guys also think about such a possibility in the distant future, maybe 10 or 30 years from now? No law or force can stop 200+million people if they demand new country. Maybe Pakistan and other islamic countries will secretly help with funds and military support similar to How India helped form Bangladesh.
Just to be clear. I am talking about far future when there are 100s of anti-muslim laws. Not right now.
Ex-Muslims/Anyone of Pakistani, Indian, and Bangladeshi background;
Do you have personal stories/opinions from your parents and/or grandparents that you know and can tell here, on this post?
Furthermore, what opinions you have on this?
I watched an Aljazeera's documentary of it on YouTube and I'm honestly just shocked at how much killings, riots, rapes, honorable suicides there are due to how the partition was executed.
I'm well aware that this discussion will cause war of words due to differing viewpoints, but I want to see a civil & polite discussion on this already sensitive topic and hopefully make the non-South Asian such as myself understand this topic better.
I know both Hindus and Muslims were massacred during that time, but what makes Jamal Hasan so sure that Muslims did not kill any Hindus at that time and that the first act of terrorism happened only after 5 months of independence?
From my uninformed point of view, the division of Ireland and the partition of India seem to share some superficial similarities. For one, the divisions seemed to be mostly along religious lines. The Republic of Ireland was for Catholics and Northern Ireland for Protestants the same way that India was for Hindus and Pakistan for Muslims. Of course, on the subcontinent the partition resulted in the mass migration of Pakistani Hindus to India and Indian Muslims to Pakistan. Did the same thing happen in Ireland? Did Catholics in Northern Ireland depart for the Republic and Irish Protestants for the north?
If the student was partway through their course, and their family or university ended up in different countries, were they able to transfer to another uni? Did they have to just stick it out and try to move country once their studies had finished?
