The definition I read for parasitic drag was drag produced by an aircraft as it travels through air and the definition for induced drag was drag created by lift.

I don't understand the difference between these 2 since they are both caused by air particles hitting the wing Thanks

With high AOA and low speed, induced drag increases and parasitic drag decreases. Why is that induced drag is directly proportional to speed while parasitic drag is inversely proportional to it ? I might think of with high AOA, the lift vector points backward causing more induced drag but I cannot relate it with low speed.

For some reason the SNEB rockets slow down a Vautour by about 230 mph, which is about 1/3 of its normal top speed. This is odd because bombs don't cause nearly as much drag despite having a similar cross-sectional area to the SNEBs. Is this intentional for balance reasons or is it a bug? It makes both the Barougan and Vautour sitting ducks when they have the SNEBs equipped.

Also when you have SNEBs equipped it makes it so your plane has a weird amount of lift going under it. It makes it so even when my nose is pointed 10 degrees down at 200 mph I still don't lose altitude. That definitely shouldn't happen.

1.7L VTEC EX SEDAN- For some time now, I have experienced high engine speeds. It is most obvious at highway speeds. Cruising at 75 mph @4K RPM. Ive been told the obvious "Hondas operate high" but I have owned this car for a long time. I KNOW when something isnt right. I have reduced fuel economy. I was experiencing front calipers getting "stuck" sometimes, but that since has stopped. I may need brake/caliper service. Other indicators- Sometimes when I release throttle, the engine speeds slow down faster than normal (IOW: not coasting smoothly). Could all of this be due to caliper grabbing? I just dont think the motor should be operating so high...

Recent or major service: Rebuilt tranny CO AAMCO, identical stock motor installed my ASE certified tech (blown internals). CAT converter. I also have the red charging indicator that has been on forever. I didnt trust the honda tech when i brought it to him. Reason why? before diagnosing he said i need a new wiring harness. So let's say I have an airplane that has half of its drag coming from parasite drag and the other half coming from induced drag (drag due to lift). Now let's say I come up with a Magic Method (tm) to reduce the parasite drag by a factor of 9x (say boundary layer suction or smth).

Assuming that the parasite drag scales as the square of speed, and induced drag scales inversely linearly with speed: If this airplane flies 3x faster, thus bringing the parasite drag back up to where it was before, this would also reduce the induced drag by a factor of 3 right?

This seems amazing: you can reduce your (induced) drag by going faster- so if you can find a way to minimize your parasite drag it seems that you can nonlinearly improve your von Karman efficiency.

Is this accurate?

Some follow on questions then: Doesn't this mean that engineers should focus their efforts on reducing parasite drag instead of induced drag? Doesn't this also mean that low aspect ratio configurations such as the Avro Vulcan may be better than expected aerodynamically since they tend to have lower parasite drag (lower wetted area), which means that they might be able to fly faster to compensate for their increased induced drag. Is this correct/reasonable?

Just had it done to be. Luckily I saw it around 150hp, being perhaps 2-3 from death (On a huntress, it did 36 each hit). Hopefully, no one will get killed by this but I fear it's a new trend.

I have gotten a lot of DMs by subscribers who share my liberal worldview being rather triumphalist over recent drama happenings over at breadtube, but also by some leftists who seem very dismayed and write things like “you were right about him being the Sargon of our community”

Enough DMs to warrant me making a post about it, here on this subreddit with only 3000 members, to keep this sort of drama stuff as far away from my youtube channel as possible.

I’d like to tell those here from Breadtube that there is no need to be dramatic or defeatist. Your community is healthy. I understand that in particular for those of you who have invested years of effort into building your community, against the ruthless and cruel opposition of the anti-SJW days, to see it now attract the same type of behavior you used to stand up against, that it may be somewhat disheartening.

BUT, I guarantee you that it is not as bad as you may think. The foundation of your community lies in well-researched essays, and not in moronic shitflinging and response videos/streams. Need Advice on Dissappearing from His Life

TL,DR: My boyfriend has been cheating on me with his ex. I cannot forgive him. I’ve been the breadwinner and helped him towards building his business, paid for his expenses and was abandoned and cheated when I got really sick in return. He hates my rescue cats because he got into his head that he wanted to move his family (mother/siblings) in but never brought this up before.

I’m financially independent and have been a careful planner in terms of my finances. I’ll be completely debt free on January ‘22. I had a hard time forgiving him, but he did everything to regain my trust and we had a somewhat smooth run for about 8 months.

He asked me to help him start a business, which I did in part. I wrote the plan according to his idea, coached him through getting his permits and all other steps. He didn’t follow thru. I see this question come up over and over again - and no offense to the FAQ authors but the response there is kind of vague. Below is a comprehensive answer. Skip to the bottom for summary answers.

Let me start by saying: There is no one-size-fits-all solution to intercoolers, and some builds will benefit more from one over the other. There are advantages and disadvantages to each.

An intercooler's function is cooling the air charge from the intake tube before it enters the intake manifold runners above each cylinder. It accomplishes this by running air heated by the "cold" side of the turbo through restrictive plates or bars attached to fins. The fins are heated by this air charge and conduct their heat to the ambient air rushing past them as the vehicle moves. Energy is transferred as heat from the flowing air charge to the ambient air moving through the fins. This matters because it tells us two things:

1. An intercooler cannot physically cool an air charge below ambient air temperature without evaporative cooling in place (water/alcohol sprays). There is a maximum to the efficiency of the system.
2. No airflow past the fins means no cooling.

FMIC

A FMIC has the advantages of location, size, and efficiency.

• For a given amount of air flowing through it, almost every FMIC can effectively cool it closer to ambient temp than any TMIC. The larger size means more cooling surface area, and the higher frontal area and thinner overall core construction means less heat soak than a deeper core would be subject to.
• Its location allows a more direct flow of air at the highest-pressure area of the car, and has the added benefit of reducing heat soak (heating of the intercooler from conducted/radiated engine heat). Very little engine heat escapes out the front-bottom of the car, and radiator fans tend to draw the air to the back of the engine bay. FMIC's thus tend to maintain an efficient operating temperature even after sitting for several minutes without moving.

However, there are disadvantages to a FMIC.

• Routing the new pipes is difficult without pre-made kits, and they are extremely costly compared to TMIC kits.
• The size of the intercooler's core means that in order to "fill" the core the turbo will have to work harder and push more air for any given volume of air at a given boost pressure (PSI). This has two effects: the incoming air charge from the turbo is hotter, and the turbo has to keep up with the pressure drop. Fas

I used an opener Elazer did at some point, it's a 20 supply 3rd Hatch, with a slightly delayed 2nd Queen (one Queen at 20 supply, other at 26), & the 3rd overlord not until 25 supply. Actually paid enough attention to see 2 Adepts leave his base, made the appropriate amount of lings & then as there was no Stalker I threw an overlord in to scout his main, saw Void making.

Split my creep Queens decently so that some protected the 4th base going up, others protected the 3rd (furthest away base from 4th). 66 drones, 6 gas around 5:45-5:50, not bad, could be better (50 & 82 supply block). Sent overseers around both sides of the map in order to have a good chance one got into their main to see the follow up.

Made some safety Hydras (around 8) to help the Queens defend, then droned straight to 80ish drones (saw opponent took gases on 3rd base). Assumed double SG before seeing it due to VR count, but scout confirmed it, also saw Robo Bay & 2 Robo's. I like to use Lambo's Queen/Hydra/Lurker walk off 80~88 drones, however this overseer scout tells me if I need to change it up slightly. So seeing Robo Bay I made 3 Vipers so I could abduct some Disruptors as those really shut down clumped Queen/Hydra/Lurker walks.

Had lings cancel his 4th once & 5th once, figured they'd be useless in the main fight, may as well steal them onto a new hotkey & do something. He moved most of his army to try to save his 5th allowing me to get Lurkers to burrow at his 4th. Abducted both his Disruptors. Then Queens spammed transfuse as Hydra/Queen killed his air, also used leftover energy for a Parasitic Bomb on a clump of Voids. The game didn't drag out, I just decisively shut him down =)

My cellphone was ringing on my bedside table at two in the morning. I’d forgotten to turn it on silent when I went to sleep. It was rare I would get call from clients so late at night but it did happen on occasion. Normally I would let it ring and check the voice mail in the morning. Still half asleep, I looked at the number. It was Nick. He was a government agent that dealt with supernatural threats. I’ve been pretty useless on the two job we already did together an yet he still called me up I asking if I could join him on another case. I made a mistake and answered.

“What’s up Snickerdoodle?”

Shit. Recently I’ve been trying to think of nicknames to call him because it seems as if he enjoyed them. I’ve mentally made a list of names to use and rejected ones to never call him under punishment of dying from embarrassment. Due to my half-asleep state, I used a name from the wrong list. There was a long pause as I heard him whisper the word under his breath and some rusting of paper. Faintly I heard a notebook close and I knew he wrote down the nickname. I would never forgive myself for this. Putting aside that trauma I listened to the reason why he called so late.

“There is a bit of an emergency. Can you be ready within five minutes? Bring warm clothing and a weapon if you have one.” Nick explained not sounding fazed by the greeting.

I was already out of bed trying to get dressed when he spoke. Whatever is going down must be a dig deal if he’s rushing me out the door. I wondered how dangerous this job would be. He never told me to bring a weapon before. Normally I leaned on him to do all the heavy lifting. I wanted to change that though. After the last case I went out and got a handgun. I also went to the range a few times to practice shooting. I gave the weapon all the respect it deserved. Honestly, it made me a little nervous just having it in the apartment. If I didn’t live alone, I would have bought a gun safe for it.

“Yeah, I can be ready. Where should I meet you?” I asked.

“I’ll come to your door but I need your permission to use it.”

Now that was a strange thing to ask. I told him he could and he quickly got off the phone. The new case brought danger but I was thinking more about the payday it would bring. No matter how much I worked I didn’t appear closer to my goals. However, my excitement faded when I placed my new handgun inside a side holster after checking the safe

I want to preface this by saying no matter what, living here in Australia has been a privilege and I'm lucky to have been born here. The people I have met and the places I've been has made an extraordinary life and i don't think I could trade it for another. But the way things appear to be i am becoming increasingly anxious about the future of all of us...

So for all the NSW people here you've obviously heard about the ICAC tearing through the liberal government - but it seems... kind of pathetic in the face of all the wrongdoings so far. Maybe it needs more time to come to fruition. Like a hydra every time one is exposed, several more are dragged in for their own misconduct. Whats going on with Christian Porter? Why did Morrison defend Gladys so much?

What about the realestate situation? Young Australians are going to end up renting for life and never retiring at this rate - or so its portrayed/implied by all the media. Even though i've been working since i was 17 and studying i dont think i'll ever save enough to outright own a house before i die without some serious luck. Houses being seen as more of an investment than a living utility is ... gross (but unfortunately economically sensible). As a side note i've seen all this news about apartment buildings not being built up to code? How the fuck did that happen? This is a first world country right???

The strikes too. There has been transport workers striking for better conditions in Sydney, how many other industries are currently going through this? When will it actually get better for them? I've personally seen how bad the workforce is right now in terms of wage growths and protections.

How about all this Murdoch stuff? Thats gotta be addressed soon right? There is no way it could be more blatant. The damage done to us socio-politically is immeasurable.

Don't even get me started on the Gambling industry here. Its beyond criminal - the sports betting ads combined with Crown Casino is just... disgusting. Its literally a culture parasite.

And the big one is climate response. We're beyond a laughing stock. Our Prime Minister is so blatantly neglectful that its actually deeply depressing. Nobody is sitting up there with him and trying to change the course? It feels like there is a lot more at play than one pudgy cynic with a smirk. We're really just going to let a group of old capitalists gouge us until the very last second with no regard for our futures because they are "elected" to do so?

TL,DR: My boyfriend has been cheating on me with his ex. I cannot forgive him. I’ve been the breadwinner and helped him towards building his business, paid for his expenses and was abandoned and cheated when I got really sick in return. He hates my rescue cats because he got into his head that he wanted to move his family (mother/siblings) in but never brought this up before.

Throwaway account. I (F36) have dated Nick (M37) for 3 years. I wasn't perfect but my perception is that we have had an overall positive relationship until a year ago when I caught him cheating. I’m financially independent and have been a careful planner in terms of my finances. I’ll be completely debt free on January ‘22. I had a hard time forgiving him, but he did everything to regain my trust and we had a somewhat smooth run for about 8 months.

He asked me to help him start a business, which I did in part. I wrote the plan according to his idea, coached him through getting his permits and all other steps. He didn’t follow thru. First it was that he “didn’t have time”, then it was that he was anxious because getting it off the ground wouldn’t be immediate. So in other words, I created a business for him where I would be his main client. This sounded like a happy medium since he wanted me to appoint him as my partner and that’s unthinkable.

For background, I went to college and while being an average student, I did work hard later on when I found my first job to make up for not having an excellent academic record. I earned certificates and invested in my education however I could to improve my chances. It paid off. I’ve been self employed since I was 28.
