A list of puns related to "Paraguayan War"
So, I love history, and even though I am not a big fan of novela I decided to watch "Nos Tempos do Imperador" because I was curious to see how they would cover this conflict. They are not going for historical accuracy (which kinds bothers me, but I won't share my opinions on the post, I wanna hear yours).
So, the novela has finally reached the point in which they are covering this subject. They teased it in the early episodes by having Solano Lopez go to Brazil and ask Pedro II to marry princess Isabel, once Pedro II refused, Solano took his sword out, cut a map of Brazil in half and said Brazil would someday pay for it. For those who don't know the details of this war: none of that happened irl.
The last episode ended with Brazil invading Uruguay. This weekend the episodes that aired showed some other stuff that didn't happen, here's some youtube upload of the scene (0:30-1:53 then it comes back at 2:48 - 5:12) Solano appears in Rio de Janeiro because of the marriage to princess Isabel to count D'Eu, he sent them a sword as a wedding gift, and later appeared in Pedro II's home and they have a conversation. I'm going to transcribe what they said, Solano speaks Spanish (I don't know if he sounds Paraguayan) and Pedro in Portuguese, so I'll translate to English:
Solano: Congratulations on the princess's marriage, beautiful party! Tell me, did the princess like the gift (I think that's what he says, sorry for my bad Spanish) I sent?
Pedro: What did you intend with that weapon?
S: Well, every Paraguyan citizen has one, by my order. I consider it necessary in case of war, you never know.
P: What do you want this time?
S: To finish our conversation in Coroado (the novela is referencing the moment in early episodes when Solano asked Pedro II for Isabel's hand), and the decision is in your hands.
Emperess Teresa: Pedro, would you like to acompany me, oh, excuse me, I didn't know you had a meeting...
P: It's not a meeting, Teresa, it's Solano Lopez.
T: Oh, god...
Cut to a scene showing Isabel's and Count D'Eu's wedding night, they say they love each other and want to have a lot of kids and kiss.
Cut back to Solano, Pedro and Teresa:
S: Pardon me, I didn't mean to frighten the emperess
P: I told I had seen Solano in the city, and you didn't believe me.
T: I sill can't believe this. The ruler of a bordering country in the wedding of the Brazilian imperial family that wasn't invited.
S: I am a man that follows my in
... keep reading on reddit β‘It's on globo play, third episode airs tonight. For people who can understand Portguese there are some episodes pirated on youtube, seach for "Nos Tempos do Imperador", you can watch them before globo takes them down.
Globo historical series are often based off on history, but they take some creative liberties. Since this subject has recently been talked about here, i must say I am curious to see how globo will deal with this. Showing Pedro II in a bad light is complicated for Brazilians, since he is overall very beloved, but I hope they don't hide the uglier truths of what the Brazilian army did.
Paraguyans... I am sorry if something bad comes off of this
I need to write a paper on the consequences of the Paraguayan war to Paraguay (for my history class). I also need to talk about how the war is seen by the paraguayans of today. Is there still a lot of resentment towards Brazil and the other countries envolved in the war?

On September 25th, 2018, the YouTube channel Alternate History Hub released a video on the Paraguayan War, otherwise known as the War of the Triple Alliance. The video focused heavily on Paraguay's involvement, likening it to a 19th century North Korea. This tweet was posted four days before the upload as a teaser and featured the thumbnail. Then on the 25th, a tweet with a link to the video was posted. However, the link to the video itself is dead. From what I can gather, the video was removed sometime in late 2018, or January 1st 2019 at the latest. This is evidenced by this tweet here. These tweets are currently the only surviving records of the video's existence, and I can't find an archive of the video online. AHH never released any information on why it was removed, and any further information, or even the video itself, would be greatly appreciated.
I've just realized that whenever a Populist Paraguay led by Martinez gets capitulated by the Populist Argentinian state led by M. CarlΓ©s, the Paraguayan puppet is still led by Martinez.
I get that the same party has to be put in place, but wouldn't it make much more sense not to let the same guy who tryed to backstab you still lead the country?
For my final assignment, I decided to write about the Paraguayan war and how it hurt its economy. I have already read up on how the war went, but I have been unable to find sources about the effects of this demographic shock. If anyone can find me English or Spanish sources about this or about when/for what reason Paraguay and its economy made a comeback.
I'm asking because I've found that whether you're from paraguay, Brazil, Argentina or Uruguay, there's 4 distinctive ways of telling the story, the how's and the why's, the origins of the war, etc. I want to know how this war is taught in other countries like in north america or europe, as well as reading my fellow south americans and what they think about this!
Would Paraguay become a regional power with a strong economy? What about the border disputes it had with all of its neighbors? Would war be inevitable or could the claims be resolved diplomatically?
If you do not know what that is, go look it up.
