Hi! My uncle recently retired and lives on the puget sound. He has taken up small scale oyster farming and I wanted to buy him a retirement gift but have no idea what to get to help on his newfound oyster endeavor. Anyone have experience farming oysters and know what a good gift could be?

Looking for information on any local farmers in the Maine area. Hoping to get in touch with someone who knows the ropes and can advise on things.

Also, temporary skill boosts (pork pie for +5 farming, admiral pie for +5 fishing) count towards XP scaling when you fish and farm there.

My argument is quite simple, the single thing we should avoid the most is directly causing harm to sentient beings, the probability of insects being sentient is higher than that of oysters because they do have a central nervous system and oysters don't. When growing crops insects are directly killed because of pesticides, oysters are directly killed when farming oysters, but as I said the chance of oysters being sentient is lower than that of insects, so crop farming is even worse from an ethical perspective than farming oysters. A diet made out of plants and oysters is at least as ethical as a diet made off of 100% plants.

I'm not saying that this is an argument for eating meat dairy or eggs, in fact I'm vegan myself (currently don't consume oysters)

Oysters are delicious and good for the environment. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with farming oysters at home or on a homestead. Ideally, they could be grown in 55 gallon drums, but I know little to nothing about their cultivation. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Can anyone request some great oyster farming textbooks?

I'd like to start a farm in the northeast US in a couple years. I have a lot of understanding of how they work from a friend with a farm and marine biology courses in college, but I'd like to read about the fundamentals and processes on background.
