A list of puns related to "Ork (folklore)"
I came across a clip from the Dutch comedian Peter Pannekoek about the difference in reality of everyday life for women and men. He pointed out that men canβt even begin to understand what it is like for women to live in a world in which 50% of the population is twice as big and strong as you, and as a woman, you are 24/7 dependent on their (good) intentions.
He proposed an interesting thought experiment: What if there were Orks among us? Like, everywhere? They would be at your job, in the streets, the shops, the gym, just everywhere you would go. And these Orks are attracted to men. Sexually. Most Orks are friendly. They ask nicely. They court and flirt and are respectful. But some Orks are like: nah, Iβll just take one of those juicy fellows, just because I can π€·π»ββοΈ. He looks attractive, he looks like I would enjoy him, and I could easily just take him, so why not? And it is not like these are special Orks, they all look the same. So the men canβt know which one will be nice and respectful and which one will suddenly grab you, and make you feel small and vulnerable.
What if Orks lived among us? Maybe it would give the good guys something to think aboutβ¦
Do not let your friends get away with unacceptable behaviour towards women, men have to hold men accountable. Believe us, we are already busy navigating the real live Orks in our everyday life!
Thanks for listening.
folklore has to be her best lyricist moment because itβs full on poetry
Lots of people know about stuff like the Wendigo or Bigfoot, but what's your favorite obscure monster from foklore?
One of my favorites is the Nucklavee from Scotland, which is kind of like a centaur, only it has no skin. Its "breath was thought to wilt crops and sicken livestock, and the creature was held responsible for droughts and epidemics on land despite being predominantly a sea-dweller ".
There's some really interesting stuff out there. What other monsters are there that you think people might not have heard of?
Hallo!
I recently have been reading about all kinds of folklore and the unexplained, and it's no surprise that Native American, Scandinavian and Japanese tales are widespread.
I'm Dutch myself (posting in English to reach a wider audience), and was wondering if there's any Dutch (or West-European, by extend) folklore of that kind. Scary stories, urban legends, cryptids.. They're all equally interesting, so if any of you know any stories or know where I can find them I'd love to hear about it!
Edit: I read through all your comments, and they were super helpfull, thank you! I have plenty to read about now :)
Anyone got any sweet Mormon folklore? Like japanese bombers had pic of hawaii temple or a mormon boy had inspiration to invent tv. Or George A Smith's relative seeing big foot. That sort of stuff. I love hearing good stories of an uncle possibly seeing one of the 3 nephites and then the dude vanished lol
In honor of evermore, tell us your favorite song from the album and we will guess what your favorite song on folklore is. If you'd rather tell us your favorite song from folklore and we guess your favorite song from evermore, that works too.
Edit: since this is getting really repetitive, you can also comment your favorite LYRICS from folklore and we'll guess your favorite SONG from evermore, or vice versa.
I'm always so sad to hear that Irish folklore/mythology isn't really taught/talked about commonly in Ireland besides children's books and whatnot. I'm a huge mythology nerd and I've honestly found Irish folklore absolutely fascinating! It's dark, complex, and just captivating. There are so many cool gods and figures and the stories are epic! Honestly, after living here for a while and actually being able to see the amazing landscape/environment in person, it's no wonder that the ancient peoples were so inspired.
I know that most countries are usually kind of out of touch with their native mythology/folklore but I feel like Ireland has something really special that deserves so much more hype.
EDIT: @shanebtops has shared an AMAZING list of reliable and accurate resources in the comments, please check it out if you'd like to read more on the subject :)
Yes, the live top 10k average is a net score of "-2.33" after a fixture against NORWICH on a Friday night. Yep, that's all you need to know about this GW. History being written.
Beloved Cycling GK Foster out of the squad with covid with no prior intimation whatsoever. Some madlads even captained him. Then the match began....
We all watched this shitshow where Josh fucking Sargent scored a Brace. Not 1. But 2 goals. Of course he had never scored before making it more poetic. Of course as normally happens, floodlights go off in the middle of the game, as a result 15 Fucking minutes were added to the regular 90. 15 additional minutes.
Now to address the elephant in the room, Emmanuseless Dennis. 45% captained in the Top 10k. Of course a DGW of Norwich and Burnley what could go wrong? Except Dennis decided to be an idiot and got 2 useless yellows and got sent off in a usesless fashion netting a hual of -1 and -2 for us captainers. At this point not even frustrated, just laughing on everything that happened today. I mean Josh Sargent scoring a Scorpion goal could only lead to this right?
i want to fight orks in this game. simple. go hacka tjakka unga bunga.
I heard about the Karoo Mermaid last week for the first time and thought that was pretty cool. Looking for more interesting stuff like that.
Edit: I have so many responses to read! It's gonna be a great Saturday. Thank you SO much.
So recently Iβve read Stolen Tongues by Felix Blackwell and it left me feeling very underwhelmed and needing more β Iβm looking for books written about cryptids, legends, monsters, etc.! Honestly, Stolen Tongues had a great setup, so I guess Iβm looking for something similar but just more satisfying? Thanks in advance!!
Yale - but what a ghostly scene
Stanford - Bill was the heir to the Standard Oil name and money
Harvard - it would have been fun, if you wouldβve been the one
Columbia - you used to work at to make a little money
Chicago - our coming-of-age has come and gone
NYU - thereβs only so far new money goes
Penn - gold was the color of the leaves
UVA - and you find something to wrap your noose around
Berkeley - dancin in your Leviβs, drunk under a streetlight
Duke - the smell of smoke would hang around this long
Michigan - been saying yes instead of no
NWU - but there's robbers to the east, clowns to the west
Cornell - hood over your head
UCLA - crawling up the beaches now
GULC - fell behind on my classmates, and I ended up here
Hello! MetaZoo is seeking new artists as we expand our line of products. We are only interested in traditional art done with copic pens and watercolor.
Our preferred aesthetic is work done in the traditional ken sugimori, vintage 1990's style. The card art consists of creature, spell, and artifacts.
What I would like to see, either in comments or DMs, is a portfolio of work that shows that you are comfortable working in the above aesthetic.
MetaZoo art work has been featured in our core game (of which now consists of hundreds of thousands of booster boxes, blister packs, etc...) as well as album covers, figurines, clothes, etc... and is on shelves of local game stores in 5 continents as well as Target and Walmart in the coming months.
I know it might seem odd that I am coming here seeking artists given how big MetaZoo has become, but keep in mind a year ago this game was nothing, and was built entirely on the hard work and dedication of freelance artists I found on reddit and instagram. MetaZoo is its art, and that's something special.
My goal is to honor that tradition and seek out new hires in the artist community in whatever grassroots ways that I can, for the rest of MetaZoo's life.
Come be a part of MetaZoo!
Saw this on Bolter and Chainsword, shared there from someone else's group chat:
Beastboss on Squigosaur +30
Kommandos + 2
Meganobs -5
Scrapjets +10
Squigbuggy +20
Battlewagon and variants -15
Kannonwagon (FW) -20
Kill rig +20
Killa Kans -5
Lootas -2
Mek gunz -5 for all versions except mega kannon
Also mentioned that Deffkoptas and Bikes points are unchanged. I don't know if this is all the changes or if the source is reliable.
Seems a bit heavy handed to the beastboss, +20 would have been have been fine IMO but he will still see play. I imagine the named one is also going up but maybe not by as much.
Meganobz drop is great, they were already seeing play as trukkboyz in some top 8 lists.
Anyway, just wanted to share. Take this all with a grain of salt.
Carlos M.S.
I've been thinking about this but are their any demons in the Megaten games that are whole original creations? All I can think of is the jack frost versions (demonhee-ho , black frost, etc.) But I feel like there might be more.
Hey r/Games!
Ghostlore is an isometric action RPG inspired by popular 90s games such as Diablo. It features:
βΆΒ Southeast Asian monsters, like
π§ββοΈ Jiangshi - Chinese hopping zombiesΒ
πΏ Rakshasa -Β shapeshifters like the D&D monster of the same name
π Pontianak - female ghosts who live inΒ banana trees
βΆΒ Detailed item and character customization
βΆΒ Unique skills and multiclass system
βΆ Crafting and food system
βΆ Tetris-like glyph system
βΆ Procedurally generated maps
If you're from Southeast Asia, a lot of these elements should be familiar to you! If you're not, come find out about our rich culture, which is extremely underrepresented in games. Or just come for the pure hack and slash fun π
The main dev (u/Ateo88) has been working on it for over 3 years now, and I recently started helping out as we prepare for launch. There's an old browser based demo (link below), but an updated demo will be out on Steam soon, and Early Access in March. Localization is planned and it's PC only for now, though we hope to port to Mac and Switch in future.
Please consider wishlisting the game as that helps us a lot π Happy to answer any questions below!
