A list of puns related to "OpenVMS"
Am I supposed to install OpenVPN on my host machine (a windows PC) or on my guest machine (Kali Linux)?
If itβs the guest machine, does that mean I have to log into TryHackMe via my Kali virtual machineβs web browser every time I want to use Kali? Or can I run TryHackMe through my host OSβs broswer and hack from the VM?
Just wondering how common that is since it's still an actively developed OS.. If so, I'd be interested in the specific use cases for it versus *nix/NT.
I have an RX50K 5.25" floppy with data that I would dearly love to recover if the disk is still viable. I created it on VMS (probably all saved mail messages) while at DEC in the 1990s. Anybody know of a service (or person) who can do this?
Hello,
I worked 10 years ago with Cobol on OpenVMS for few years. I really enjoyed but unfortunately, the company bought an erp (Oracle) and all old applications have been dismissed.
I've been transferred on erp team and since this time, I'm working on Oracle product.
I've been contacted a few time if I'm interested to work with cobol. The requirements are zOS, JCL CICS and other acronyms...
I always decline because I feel I don't have qualifications. I have no idea what is zOS ( an OS of mainframe but I'm blind after that...) and JCL seems the equivalent (I guess) of DCL (Digital Command Language)
My question is would it be hard to adapt from working with Cobol on OpenVMS to Cobol, let say, on zOS ?
The title pretty much says it. I have a hobbyist license from VMS Software but I canβt figure out when to get installation kit / ISO images / or the OS.in some form. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks.
So, let's say I got tasked with managing some VMS machines. Now, these are museum-quality Alpha boxes, running the latest OS version. However, there are a few issues.
Thanks for any and all responses!
Iβm trying to understand when and the process ?
I've just received an email from HPE stating:
>Dear HPE OpenVMS hobbyist, > >This is to inform you that HPE is concluding the HPE OpenVMS Hobbyist license program in alignment with the HPE OpenVMS support roadmap. > >If you wish to understand more details, please reach out to us at the earliest through the usual license renewal webpage. > >Thank you. > >HPE OpenVMS team
I've checked and the HPE Hobbyist registration page is unchanged at: https://www.hpe.com/h41268/live/index_e.aspx?qid=24548
So, I don't really know what is happening, but sadly, it seems like Hobbyist Program that HPE/Compaq/DEC has provided for so long may be coming to an end?
I just want to take an opportunity to thank everyone in the HPE OpenVMS team for being so helpful and supportive to us hobbyists over the decades, I really appreciate it.
FYI - You can post OpenVMS questions at forum.vmssoftware.com .

VAX/VMS brings back memories.
Hello Guys,
In the near Feature I get the responsibility for a small openvms Cluster. I already had a week with a teacher to learn this crazy stuff.
So do you have any tips for things you look first when you see the system the First time ?
Regards Young new Guy like the vms architecture
Guys - anyone know where I can find a distribution of Pathworks for OS/2 to communicate between OpenVMS and OS/2 Warp 3.5?
I guess 15 years ago I used to have a DCL that would loop through the mounted disks and search for files from the root directory down.
@find.com *.com something
I really don't want to relearn DCL :-) Does anyone have something handy?

Just arrived in todays mail. Is this something they normally do for existing customers?
