Little info.
Charlie - My 2.5 year old female BC/AS mix is a very sweet, playful, mindful girl. I have no issues with her around strangers or kids (she just runs from kids). But when we are at home she can sometimes be a little possessive and protective. (Herding, growling, snarling)
Laine - Foster BC is very very sweet, extremely submissive, doesn’t herd she just wants love and a ball. Very playful and lot of fun, happy energy.
So
They have played a few times before this meeting. Friend brings Laine over and Charlie immediately lunges at her. Unsure why. I put Charlie inside and walked Laine inside on a leash. Charlie was fine after that. They played 6 hours straight after until bed time with no issues. I crated Laine for the night.
fast forward this morning
Charlie starts growling and herding Laine around after I let her out and go potty. Charlie seems to have forgotten they were playing happily all day.
So for people who have multiple border collies, or a BC and another breed of dog, how do you keep your “dominate” BC to be nice to your other hound(s)?
I know she is still young but I want her to be able to roam and be free/comfortable ASAP. It’s a small house with a big backyard so I would just feel more comfortable if she could be okay without whereas their isn’t much room in the house anyway. Want to hear your thoughts. I want her to sleep wherever she wants. Even with us if she wants. Anywhere. Pros and cons but more pros would be better. This is our first night with her and I’m torn what to do. Might put her in the crate next to our bed for the first week? I don’t know. What’s best for her?

I’m here with the 100 years young, Berisford “Shep” Shepherd. There is so much to say about this wonderful man, but this quick bio will have to do. “Mr. Berisford “Shep” Shepherd is an arranger, composer, drummer, trombonist, contractor, and singer. Born in Honduras in 1917, and raised in Philadelphia, he attended Jules E. Mastbaum Area Conservatory and Vocational School where he was being groomed to play percussion in the Philadelphia Orchestra. Shep served four years in the army composing, arranging, conducting, and playing trombone. After his service, he settled in New York City where he played and contracted for Broadway shows. Shep has performed and written for seminal figures such as Benny Carter, Cy Oliver, Artie Shaw, Patti Page, Lionel Hampton, and Lena Horne among others. Because of the high-demand for his arrangements, the catchphrase “Get Shep” became common among New York musicians. He toured with various Broadway shows while based in New York. One of these shows led to San Francisco, where he eventually settled and was the house drummer at Finocchio’s for 23 years. Shep moved down to South Orange County in 2007 where he met his wife, Joy. She and Shep currently reside in San Clemente, California” Here’s a video of him singing at 99 years old. He’s got a concert this Friday singing with the Saddleback College Big Band in Mission Viejo, CA. Ask him anything!
