A list of puns related to "Nootropic"
To start with some background. I've been into nootropics for about 2-3 years now and have tried a good variety of compounds ranging from herbs to prescription drugs. I'm neurotypical as far as I know, male, and am currently finishing my third year of engineering school.
On top of these supplements, I also work out 5-6 days per week, try to sleep at a consistent time for ~7-8 hours per night and eat a clean diet avoiding added sugar and seed oils when possible. These actions have had more impact than almost any supplement or drug. Anyone looking into cognitive enhancement should start here before adding new compounds.
Anyways, here's the list, broken down into categories, and roughly scored out of ten. Some of these may not be legal in all areas. Check your local laws and don't purchase/consume anything that could put you in prison.
Vitamins/minerals:
Magnesium (9/10): biggest impact of any mineral I've taken. I was likely deficient in this as after starting it I noticed an almost immediate boost in sleep quality and started dreaming again after barely having any dreams for a few years. Also helped reduce muscle cramping and soreness.
Fish oil Omega 3 (6/10): I've heard this is healthy and everyone should take it, but to be honest I haven't noticed much personally from it. Whether it's the supplements not doing much, or the fact that I've already tried to cut Omega 6 fats out if my diet to have a balanced ratio of Omega 3-6 I don't know, but these didn't work as well as I've heard. I still take it due to the mountains if evidence supporting fish oil and the fact that I can get a years supply for $20.
Zinc (8/10): like magnesium this also had a noticable effect on my sleep quality and dreams but not as significant. I've heard it can boost testosterone, and I did notice a transient boost in libido when starting zinc, but haven't had much long term impact.
Vitamin D (9/10): I live in Canada so vitamin d deficiency is extremely common, especially in the winter. I've had seasonal depression since I was roughly ten, and after supplementing 5000IU/day 2 years ago, it's stopped completely. For that alone this supplement is worth taking, and more evidence about it's benefits keeps coming out, would highly recommend this.
B12 (4/10): didn't notice much from this despite it being recommend to me by some friends. I likely get more than enough B12 from my diet, so the supplement didn't do much. Take this if you're vegan, but no
... keep reading on reddit β‘Hey,
I have used many nootropics over the years (racetams, L-theanine + caffeine, low-dose amphetamine, methylphenidate, modafinil), but there is one that (at least for me N=1) beats all the other ones: ephedrine.
Ephedrine is the active alkaloid in the ephedra plant used widely in TCM and Ayurveda medicine. It was widely used as a stimulant before the year 2000 in the US and Europe. Also, it has been in use for over 3000 years by humans (mostly in China and India and other South-East-Asian countries).
Before the year 2000, ephedrine was mostly available OTC and also an ingredient in many preworkouts, appetite suppressants, fat burners, etc. However, some people discovered that ephedrine could be used as a raw material to easily manufacture amphetamine and methamphetamine. For this reason, it was taken off the OTC market and from then on was only available on prescription (e.g. for narcolepsy, obesity).
I am European. While I was in Canada on university exchange, many rowers and other athletes in my university were using ephedrine before a workout (ephedrine is still OTC in Canada - sold as 8mg pills as a nasal decongestant). So I thought I would try it myself. First time I took 16mg before a study session. I loved it. I stocked up and brought a shitload of ephedrine with me to Europe. Ever since, it is my go-to nootropic/stimulant.
For me, the effects of ephedrine are the smoothest out of any stimulant.
Ephedrine is my favorite nootropic.
Am I the only one that uses ephedrine? What are your experiences with it?
Shopping for some no tropics to make myself feel betterβ¦ I know lots of them are pointless and a waste of money, Iβm trying to look for actual results. Thanks in advance :)
i have no real experience so i can't contribute to the discussion, but i'm really interested

Hi,
Looking to identify all nootropics with dopamine releasing properties - the key bit here is 'releasing', not 're-uptake inhibitor', or 'dopamine agonist'.
Any help appreciated
thanks
As requested pharmacological explanation of differences:
A dopamine releasing agent (DRA) is a type of drug which induces the direct release of dopamine in the body and/or brain. These tend to be recreational drugs in nature as they result in euphoria etc. For example methamphetamine inhibits synaptic vesicle function by inhibiting VMAT2, which prevents monoamine uptake into the vesicles and promotes their release. This results in the outflow of monoamines from synaptic vesicles into the presynaptic neuron, and their subsequent release into the synaptic cleft by the transporters.
A DRI the mechanism of action is to inhibit the reuptake of dopamine into the presynaptic cell. Chronic dosing leads to downregulation of post-synaptic receptors, and the neuron is disinhibited to release more dopamine in the synaptic space. Methylphenidate is somewhat of an outlier in this regard as it binds to and blocks dopamine transporters (DAT) and norepinephrine transporters. Interestingly he difference in mechanism of action between methylphenidate and amphetamine results in methylphenidate inhibiting amphetamine's effects on monoamine transporters when they are co-administered.
A dopamine agonist binds to specific dopamine receptors and stimulates these receptors to release more dopamine. In essence DA's imitate the actions of dopamine when levels are low - thereby are less directly or overtly dopaminergic, but rather more subject to natural downstream activity from HPMA.
In terms of 'power' it is DRA>DRI>DA.
I have a substance abuse disorder so any RC benzos or anything similar to ambien are not an option for me. I already take melatonin but it doesnβt do the job on its own. I have been using Benadryl but my outpatient rehab center has been expressing concerns about the Benadryl every time I take a drug test saying it has abuse potential, which I think is ridiculous but I want to get them off my back. I really canβt find any options other than doxylamine and valerian. Any help would be appreciated.
I quit caffeine cold turkey 20 days ago and am pleasantly surprised to find that it has improved pretty much every aspect of my life.
Caffeine itself is seen as a nootropic because it produces benefits in the short term in the form of increased focus, energy, and improved mood. What I didnβt realize is just how short lived those benefits are. They are not worth the downside, the 16 or more hours per day of low grade withdrawal from the substance. During withdrawal you feel more irritability, tiredness, inability to focus, disrupted sleep, and subtle anxiety.
After I quit the first few days were terrible, but now it feels like my body works as it should. I am able to focus all day long, I am in a good mood all day long, I sleep better, socialize better (I feel comfortable in my own skin at all times), and even my libido is better. Most pleasantly surprising is my sense of peace and calm living in the present moment. On caffeine I was always asking myself, βok, what next?β I was unable to fully enjoy my life because of always asking this question. Now I feel satisfied and content during most moments of my life. What could be better than that?
I no longer feel the need to look for nootropics or other substances or compulsive behaviors to alleviate the symptoms of caffeine withdrawal. Everything is just fine now on its own. Very grateful to have given this a shot.
Highly recommend you quit for a week or two to see for yourself. And let me know how it goes!

... keep reading on reddit β‘Ashwagandha exhibits potent anxiolytic effects in the context of chronic stress and anxiety disorder. Fish oil has been noted to be comparable to pharmaceutical drugs (fluoxetine) in majorly depressed persons. Bacopa appears to improve memory, working memory, alertness and to reduce forgetting, anxiety, and depression.
Some of these substances have side effects. But, most of them are minor when compared to the side effects of most SSRIs, NRIs, stimulants, and anxiolytics.
I understand there are circumstances in which traditional psychiatric medications are needed. But I'm sure in many cases patients would benefit from taking some supplements or nootropics first.
I mean: instead of giving that depressed kid an SSRI that kills his libido, why not try a regimen of high-dose fish oil, coupled with therapy? If it doesn't work of course the psychiatrist might prescribe fluoxetine. But why not try this natural, low-risk, and effective supplement first?
Why not give the anxious man some ashwagandha instead of some dangerous anxiolytic? Why not give sabroxy to the kid with ADHD, before ritalin or atomoxetine?
What am I missing or understanding incorrectly?
I'm not a psychiatrist or a medical doctor, and I would love to read a psychiatrist's point of view about this.
I've built a nootropics recommendation engine based on SSC's 2016 nootropics survey data (though I've now gathered more data from r/Nootropics).
How it works: rate the nootropics youβve tried, and the app will match you to people with similar ratings, and tell you other nootropics they liked.
Iβd be very interested in any feedback you might have!
I've gone through and really scouted out all the vendors that are shutting down/removing racetams OR other related compounds and found that:
- Cymnootropics is shutting down (Rip Ceretropic Peptides Again)
- Science bio and botanybio is shutting down
- Nootropicsdepot is discontinuing the racetams, phenibut, adrafinil. (includes piracetam but not noopept)
This is likely due mainly to incoming regulations OR payment processors refusing to support the transactions for said compounds. Either way, it may be possible that we won't see any more of these beloved products on websites such as nootropicsdepot for much longer, if ever again. Call it fear mongering but the rate at which this all progressing, I think it is very likely that we won't see these products listed for much longer.
If anyone has any information regarding any sort of new legislation that would ban racetams or laws that would criminalize possession of racetam/phenibut/finils research chemicals, please comment below.
Definitely frustrated with the change of events recently with all of this happening but there's really not much we can do except advocate for freer and more relaxed regulations on these kind of things. I hope everyone takes care and is able to find the care they need if they are relying on things such as racetams for their mental health. Also, I really hope that one day a lot of this compounds that are likely to be de-listed will eventually make a return if not through places like nootropicsdepot then through other vendors who decide to pick up the torch.
Edit: Cymnootropics was the US-arm of the Mexican nootropic vendor Cuerpoymente. They provided Ceretropic peptides and former nootropicsdepot listings that were no longer listed such as Tianeptine and so on. The reason why I bring up Cymnootropics in the post above is that the company was directly tied to Nootropicsdepot in that they would test their compounds in the Nootropics Depot Lab. Additionally, it is mentioned by u/misteryouaresodumb that Cymnootropics is one of the few Latin American carriers of Ceretropic products. HOWEVER, as of 2 days ago cymnootropics announced that they would be shutting their doors and Cuerpoymente will no longer do business with American customers, nor ship to the USA. As a carrier of nootropicsdepot products and Ceretropic peptides, this could indicate something else going on behind the scenes in regards to US regulations.

Was hoping to read it.
Recently bought some phenylpiracetam from Pure Nootropics. Wanted to post this because a lot of people are buying from PN because they're one of the few places in stock. My guess? They're lying about what they're giving you.
Basically, my experience so far has been super disappointing compared to Nootropics Depot's phenylpiracetam.
So I ordered a few bottles of 30 caps from Pure Nootropics.
The first bottle I opened only had 25 caps in it, instead of 30. The second bottle I opened only had 26 caps. So they're literally giving you less than you pay for purely in terms of capsules. Wouldn't surprise me if the other bottles are all short of capsules as well.
But that's not even the worst part:
The effects are BARELY noticeable. 3 capsules of Pure Nootropic's phenylpiracetam (which should be 300mg of phenylpiracetam) barely feels like 1 capsule of Nootropics Depot's phenylpiracetam. I honestly don't even know if it's real phenylpiracetam or if they're basically cutting it with crap.
All I know is I haven't had the proper phenylpiracetam experience since I ran out of my bottle from Nootropics Depot.
The fact Pure Nootropics are willing to give you fewer caps in a bottle, and the fact the actual result of taking their phenylpiracetam is so weak, AND they're one of the few vendors who are still "in stock" when nobody else is...
I think they're scamming people. The effects are barely there.
My suggestion?
AVOID THEM. Don't waste your money on these clowns. They should be outlawed.
It's crap like this that makes Nootropics Depot head and shoulders above almost every other nootropics vendor.
TL;DR - I believe PN is lying, over-charging and under-delivering like crazy. In reality I think they're only delivering a fraction of the phenylpiracetam they're promising.
The only place that sells SOME nootropics albeit all in powder is IndoleShope....And one more that doesn't deserve recognition. Why do we not have a nootropics depot like service here in Canada? Currently ND is the only place I use because shipping is literally 20 bux for DHL. Lift mode wants 95 for the same shipping outfit.
Is there a particular reason there are no true nootropic vendors based out of Canada? I know we have limits on much can be brought in for example phenibut (75 grams per 3 months). The one time o ordered more CBSC sent me a letter saying next time they would seize the order if I was getting that much. I can't see how this should effect shipping in Canada tho, as they cant look on your packages than.
Any other Canadians here that have any insight?
Last night the discord moderators banned all of our accounts. NooTopics is still up but if I don't get my account back the server is probably going too.
I just want to say I've never made so many friends and fun times, it has been truly amazing.
Thanks for all the support through this shitty time, let's all stick together.
Our journey doesn't stop here. Bromantane nasal sprays complete in a few days. Keep in touch. We will change the game. Message me!
Itβs been several years since I last bought nootropics, but I noticed today after searching a lot of shops no longer carry nootropics I used to love, including piracetam, phenylpiracetam, phenibut, and many others. Does anyone know if anywhere sells these? Specifically powder? I canβt seem to find any good shops anymore.
I have been an avid fan of war and military movies and have plenty of relatives who are in the army as well. While watching said movies I always find the soldiers being in a situation where they need to be constantly aware and alert of their surroundings (i.e. clearing a house etc) so I thought why don't they use any form of nootropic or maybe even a stimulant to remain alert and aroused.
I have schizoaffective disorder (Bipolar Disorder + Schizophrenia)
The problem is mostly negative symptoms and anhedonia.
I first had paroxetine, then aripiprazole, cyamemazine, amisulpride, quetiapine, and now risperidone.
None of them worked except for the least worst which was amisulpride but I don't think I was in a depressive phase.
I've heard that some nootropics could help but I didn't achieve to get so much information.
So I would like to know if nootropics could help me, and if so which ones.
Thanks in advance.
I am pretty optimistic when it comes to supplementation and noots. However, around 75% of the time I have an adverse reaction. Fatigue, apathy, brain fog etc.
I have probably tried over 50 different pills and potions at this point. I used to believe it was the compound that didn't agree with me. However, I'm starting to think it could be the filler/casing in the pills? Is this even possible? It just seems absurd that I have a clear negative reaction to this stuff almost all of the time.
Any experiences or thoughts would be amazing, it is very frustrating.
Everything else is in check, diet, exercise, sleep.
Iβm talking are they same-day or do they need days or weeks to build up. I am looking to reduce stress / anxiety. Also, whether they should be taken on an empty stomach is useful info too.
I also got kava, but I know effects kick in with that immediately after absorption.
Thanks!
(ps, impressive shipping time with my order)

All the racetams and other synthetic nootropics are great but sadly they're becoming harder to attain due to pressure on vendors such as nootropicsdepot and science.bio. The latter is even shutting down. Nootropicsdepot is shifting to herbal nootropics.
This got me thinking, there is one potential herbal nootropic everyone overlooks! Coca tea is easily attainable in Latino supermarkets or lationo webshops, it's like a coffee to south americans. Everyone consumes it Peru and Bolivia and they say it helps with all kinds of issues like altitude sickness and constipation etc. It's also nowhere nearly as harmful or addictive as cocaine. It contains a lot of healthy nutrients.
I'm currently trying some coca tea powder right now but I don't know what to think of it. It certainly works as it is clearly stimulating. I feel way more energetic and not as depressed. Smooth energy without a crash. Effects linger arround 3 to 4 hours. Not as disgusting taste as kratom.
However it makes me feel weird and not very social. Makes me think of a low dose of methylphenidate with this emotional numbing effect. Almost like a sedative. My mouth and gums are also numb lol.
What do you guys think? Have you ever tried Coca tea?
Pretty much something that makes activities and life itself more enjoyable like playing video games, watching tv, etc?
Hi guys, I know a lot of people on this subreddit are into exercise, healthy eating, and generally healthy lifestyles.
How do you exercise, how do you feel after exercise, how has the gym or sports changed your life for the better or for the worse?
Π‘an you please advise any training program for me? Just to keep myself healthy. I'm a 40-year-old man, not particularly athletic. Thanks
Got a nutrition degree* a decade ago. Clients veeerrryyy occassionally mention nootropics, specifically usually in the context of being interested in them but they don't know enough to use them.
When did nootropics come along and what were some of the baseline commonly used nootropics that led to the movement becoming successful?
A professor I took a course with recently mentioned he liked nootropics, some of the things being used, but was concerned with regulatory issues, that they can be pulled. How has this impacted or is this currently impacting the field?
Thanks for anyone who has the time
*in the modern context nutrition degrees mean nothing. While I still make use of mine indirectly in my current work, I don't use this title to call myself a big shot and am just asking a question as a know nothing
I think it has to do with body temperature and/or insulin.
Might be a bad idea, might not.
My reasoning, often times the best comments with the most valuable studies or consistent anecdotes are found 5 comments down on a post about a different substance entirely
If there was a megathread for everything from caffeine to ginkgo to piracetam to magnesium, it would be the first thing that pops up when someone searches for it (or for the effects they're looking for).
That way good comments on the topic, with solid studies, etc could get voted to the top, people could continually add new anecdotal experiences... and they would all be in one place.
This might cut down on the daily, 'what are the best nootropics for focus/clarity' posts
Just a thought, this ginkgo has me focused and clear thinking again
edit to add.. perhaps one pinned megathread(post) with links to all the separate megathreads, as per the spacing issue on the front page, brought up by u/intensely_human, or links to the megathreads in the wiki, suggested by a couple other savvy redditors who presumably had their ginkgo this morning
After doing some research on a healthy and beneficial way to use SSRI, I found that fluoxetine in small doses was ideal, so I bought fluoxetine liquid version, and I use 3 drops a day, I'm on the third day and it's been very effective. positive for those who have a slight depression or anxiety, want a slight boost, it's great.
About the studies, they say that at small doses it had almost the same effect as using the usual dose, a small rate of difference, and it was found to increase BDNF in the brain.
Fluoxetine is known to increase dopamine too, so it's almost an atypical SSRI

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with Pure Nootropics and this post isn't self promotion or a vendor generated advertisement. I am solely a happy customer!
Note: I have been looking forever (weekly) for my favorite racetams from all vendors and I could only find this one that carries phenylpiracetam.
Omgosh, not sure if I am allowed to post this but I am going to try as I have been searching everywhere for phenylpiracetam but Prue Nootropics actually has phenylpiracetam in stock! Oh, today is a great day and this made my day. Just wanted to share with you that I ordered from them today and in the past and their products have been great! If you have been struggling to find phenylpiracetam, they have it! Oh happy Days!
There are several different mechanisms to boost dopamine. Whether it's supplying the necessary vitamins (b6) to up the conversion of the protein building blocks (l-tyrosine) in the sequence to dopamine, reducing oxidative stress thereby increasing dopamine (ginkgo, etc), increasing cAMP and thereby increasing dopamine (forskolin) etc
Which nootropic/supplement has offered you the most reliable/consistent increase in dopamine?
A lot of the people I listen to who talk about nootropics also talk about all the other everyday stuff you can do that doesn't have anything to do with an intake of any supps. Such as cold showers, hot baths, sauna, early morning walks, sunshine, different eating schedules, meditation, breathing, sleeping routines and so on. I would love to know what the people of the most informed forum of all time do other than their supps.
Thanks.
Edit: wording
I'm looking for energy, motivation, and focus. Not all at once really just any noticeable feeling in one of them would be great. I've tried 10 and only L-Theanine + Caffeine worked. This is what I tried and none of them have any noticeable effect at all.
N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine
Polygala tenuifolia
Phosphatidylserine
Eleuthero
Rhodiola Rosea
Magnesium Glynciate
Pycnogenol
Multivitamin
Ubiquional CoQ10
Guarana (worked because it's caffeine but felt worse than with L-Theanine)
I have Agmatine Sulfate but I haven't tried it yet
pretty much the title is all. I don't want to feel like wasting my money on unnecessary shit. I already got a good vitamin stack and eat healthy, so I don't need the vitamins, and most of the 'nootropics' in energy drinks are often severely underdosed. and I really only care for the caffeine and taste really, is there anything out there that fits what I want?
Are there any that for example would increase the number of neurons/synapses in a human adult?
Will leave this here for anyone interested.
How I Went From Aphantasia to Photographic Memory With Nootropics
Not a personal post, but as someone who has experienced first hand some of the vast benefits nootropics offer Iβm extremely interested and inclined to try out this proposed stack, I will be doing a trial run to see if I can replicate the same results. Planning to leave updates here as consistently as changes occur
So I have depression and anxiety and been struggling recentlyβ¦specifically with suicidal thoughts. Iβm currently taking Trintellix(SSRI) for my depression for 6 weeks which is making me 10x worse Iβm currently starting a taper off this drug..however Iβve purchased NAC and L-Theanine Iβm debating on getting L-Tyrosine also not tried them yet but going to start soon..Iβm also currently under investigation for ADHD waiting for an assessment with a team. Whatβs your advice. And if thereβs anything else worth taking please let me know..
What combo would you recommend for me to buy from Gorillamind to be able to study extremely intensely? And would you recommend me to mix coffee with it or not? Damn I wish I could order the Gorilla Dream where I live. Sleeping effectively is such a big factor in learning.
EDIT: typo
Currently I am taking nothing besides the occasional Adderall pill. I have experimented with psychedelics before, however I believe my brain fog has occurred because of the many antidepressants I have been on and off of in the past(possibly mainly atomoxetine). The fog comes and goes but it has been getting much worse lately. I've been taking lion's main for a week and it hasn't helped.
First a disclaimer, I don't experience the hangover effect from drinking alcohol. I experience it, and/or a range of positive effects from moderate to intense sleep deprivation, Flu, allergies or Migraines. Given that I share the bad symptoms(ADHD, ASD,some anxiety, fatigue..) with the majority of ppl in this sub, and given that Alcohol consumption has inflammatory effects and sleep disruption effects, I am working under the assumption that the relief I get from my symptoms shares, to a large degree, mechanism that are also at work in the case of alcohol consumption.
I'll keep it short. While looking for ways to affect dopamine stumbled across a mention of an enzyme that is affected by sleep deprivation and effects dopamine at the same time (either Tyrosine Hydroxilase or Dopa Ddecarbolase). Later, I came across this video, and what caught my interest is the list of effects from Bromantane are almost exactly the list of effects that I experience from sleep deprivation, increased focus and energy, increase libido, increased and almost impulsive energy to socialize and just do STUFF. In addition, Bromantane seems to affect those two enzymes that could be involved with sleep deprivation and dopamine. I have ordered some to try out in the next couple of weeks.
So, There it is. I really hope it turns out to be useful. I know awful our brains can be.
I wanna start taking Nootropics and I was wondering if even after I'm done taking them they have long lasting affects?
