The Book in 3 Sentences
- Instead of packing your schedule with tons of AP classes and generic extracurricular activities, pack your schedule with free time to explore your interests.
- Master one deep interest (doesn't have to be in a super competitive field like coding or math), and relentlessly focus on this interest to become great at it
- Pursue projects that are hard to explain to others but not hard to do, and use leverage to create a snowball effect of accomplishments
Impressions
This book changed the way I view college admissions. Prior to reading this book, I was focused on getting as many leadership positions and resume boosters as possible. After reading this book, I feel like becoming a high school "superstar" is about being focused on a single interest.
While reading this book, I realized that I already had completed some of the steps. For example, I already found my deep interest (in my case, advertising), which has become my focus over the past year. I've somewhat immersed myself into the world of marketing, and I've leveraged my success to pursue projects with national and international organizations.
My current goal with marketing is to leverage my experience for more advanced projects, and use my skills to gain accomplishments.
Who Should Read It?
All students looking to get into top colleges should be reading this book. It shows that the ultra-stressful perception of college admissions isn't always true, and that the relaxed superstar mindset should at least be considered by all students on this sub.
