A list of puns related to "Motion Picture Funnies Weekly"
I'd like to read this 1939 comic but I can't find any information about its publication history since it was re-discovered. Has Marvel published it as part of a collection? Is it in the public domain?
I know only a few issues were published and it was thought lost until 1974 but has it really been unavailable to the public since then?
While discussing with my charcuterie of film luminaries at our club, we ambulated upon the topic of classic Second Indochina War movies, such as Operation Dumbo Drop (1995) or Predator (1987). After some rumination followed by some spirited brandying of words we came to the conclusion that the Afghanistan War had not produced any such marvels of movie magic.
Until, that is, we began to discuss the case of the iconic animated feature "Ultramarines: A Warhammer 40,000 Movie".
Produced in 2010, "Ultramarines: A Warhammer 40,000 Movie" depicts a group of Astartes of the Ultramarines denotation leading a mission to the iconic planet of Mithron to investigate a distress call. The planet of Mithron, much like the Afghani plains, is a dry and sparsely vegetated location. They continue on their mission only to find that the perfidious forces of Chaos (America) have infiltrated their midst. This is clearly the intention of the filmmakers to forge an allegorical connection between the well-known corrupting influence of Chaos and the iconic insidious nature of Capitalism, which was invented in America in 1856. Furthermore, it becomes more and more clear as the picture presidium progresses that the Cosmic Commandos are indeed stand-ins for the Taliban fighters of Afghanistan. This is clearly evidenced both by their aptitude at desert combat, and the fact that when their Chaplain calls upon the power of their god (an all powerful man from Anatolia who wrote a holy book which the fighter's entire mission is to protect) we can see by the fact that their enemies are so swiftly smote that this is clearly an allusion to Allah.
So now, my friends and foes, before I hand this great intellectual burden of debate over to your well-deserving hands, let us review the facts like the old scholars have done for centuries past:
The Ultramarines are clearly an allegory for the Taliban fighters of Afghanistan:
They worship an all powerful man from the middle-east who possesses quantifiable powers
Their mission is to protect a holy book that their god has written, which has been kept on a planet with conditions identical to modern Afghanistan
They are adept desert fighters, and are capable of using their gods power's to smote any enemies who may stand in their way
This movie was created before the end of the war, and as such it is still plausible that in the year 41,000 the afghani-american war is still raging
They are protecting their holy book from the forces
"My god! It's over 82 AUS in diameter!"
So, as I recall, 1 AU is the distance from the Earth to the Sun. Did some checking, Pluto is just under 40AU. So this thing is so big that the distance from one side to another is a little more than DOUBLE the distance from Pluto to the Sun. The farthest specific known object is 132AU. But... I mean, seriously? Vygr is holding together something that reaches double the distance between the sun and Pluto? That just seems... excessive.
When Kirk made his first appearance in the film; the transport arrived at Starfleet headquarters, the door opened and Shatner stepped forward...
The entire theater erupted in cheers and applause.
I can't recall any other time I've ever seen something like that while at the theater. A great memory :)

With No Way Home this week and Resurrections next week, Iβve been thinking about how sequels, prequels and reboots cater to their fan base, or donβt.
Some fan service elevates the picture but others feel shameless or fall flat, or at worst actually turn the fan base off.
I remember practically jumping out of my seat when Red Skull entered Infinity War.
