So like many others i can not understand Japanese and so i watch Sub.
Ive heard that even fluent speakers sometimes dont even get the jokes in Bakemonogatari and so on and I was wondering if there is a list of all puns or jokes that were never really translated into english so people like me can enjoy them.
One example is when Kanberu says Hissa (or something like that) which can be understood as a greeting or as the word knee and proceeds to knee Ararararagi in the face.

When many of his female clients that clearly showed symptoms of dissociation personality disorder (DID) and split parts activity told him about how they were sexually abused in their childhood by family members, he initially believed their words, but society took it personally as a slander (nobody could believe that children sexual abuse and incest is widespread in those days), so Freud was bullied until he came up with fantasy explanation. Children, you know, just want to have sex with their parents, so they are to blame if parents sexually abuse their children if it is proved, those nasty children just made them do it by their sexual innuendos, and when abused is not proved, than children are just mixing their incestual fantasies and dreams with their memories, case closed. Never believe those unstable women and children when they say about sexual abuse, they are just prone to fantasies and easily influenced. Those psychiatrists who believed their clients were persecuted as fake specialists (like Kaiki), charlatans who caused iatrogenic (caused by medical examination or treatment itself) false memories. So in reality current psychiatry is an abuse ring which try to cover up for other abusers in exchange for power to abuse those who are labeled as "mentally disordered".
Trauma model tries to change situation to the better. Its explanation for mental disorder is like that: to cope with trauma we split ourselves into dissociated parts. Those parts are connected to basic animal survival strategies (fight, flee, freeze, submit, attach) and are normal reactions to abnormal situation. These dissociated parts are unconscious. I'm sad. Why did they have to kill my man Kaiki? Literally the best character I liked him so much :(. FUCK OUGI and GAEN. Gaen is the true fucking apparition.
I really liked how the whole thing with Nadeko played out. Kaiki is a good guy at heart (legend). Senjougahara looking out for Arararagi is nice too. Sorry, I stuttered. HACHIKUJI :( fuck the kid with the baseball bat.

Imo hachikuji is the best character in the monogatari series (shinobu bein a close second) and every time I watch the scene of her and koyomis final moments together (at least we think so at the time) I cry without fail, only other anime that does that to me is I want to eat your pancreas and thatβs a whole ass movie lmao.

I'm on episode 18, and it seems like every time I think I have this show figured out or that it couldn't possibly get weirder, it does. By like 1000%. This might fall in the realm of masterpiece for me by the time I'm done. The whole story, not this specific season. I coulda done without the recap episodes.
Finally at the beginning of Owari⦠holy shit has this started getting dark.
Between the end of Koyomi when you have 11 cheerful funny half episodes then 12 goes βoops youβre dead nowβ. Then straight in Owari parental and domestic abuse and really playing up the βOugiβ is your enemy. Iβm loving the turn this final leg of the series is taking.
PS Really glad I found this community because it got me to find the LNs on Amazon based on a picture someone recently posted on here and purchased the first two seasons box sets. Excited read them once Iβm finished watching!
So I'm a long time puyo puyo fan (I'm not a very good player but I love those games) and recently I decided to try out the series that spawned it, Madou Monogatari.
Seeing as the first game had a Japanese Megadrive release (apparently being the last official game released on the system) I decided to go with this version as that meant that I could play it on real hardware.
What is madou Monogatari? It's a typical first person dungeon crawler from the 90s (a genre that I really enjoy), quite an easy one at that, so what makes the genesis version so interesting? Well it's the combat system.
Indeed, instead of a turn-based menu driven combat system, this game uses a real-time button combo system. Basically your character is a mage in training, so 99.9% of your attacks are magic spells, and to cast those magic spell you'll have to hold the 'A' button and do fighting game styled button combinations (for instance a fire ball is a up, left, down, right) and both you and the enemy will act at the same time.
This is quite a unique system I haven't quite found anywhere else (the closest that comes to mind are the tales of/star ocean system for the real time combat phase in a J-RPG and Lisa the painful for the button combos) and this got me a bit disappointed when I found out that other games in the series just use a classic menu/turn-based system. I'll probably still play them but I felt the need to talk about all this with other people as I feel that this game should be more looked at just due to this combat system
