A list of puns related to "Monascus purpureus"
Red Yeast Rice (made with Monascus purpureus)
As far as my research went, Red Yeast Rice (RYR) is made the same way as other koji.
Whereas Koji spores like Aspergillus oryazae are easy to obtain, I found it impossible to get Monascus purpureus spores (where I live). But after 2 years I was lucky enough to purchase a few bags of RYR.
My idea was, that I could use this RYR to inoculate fresh rice. What are the chances that this works?
I read, that the growth of the fungus (Aspergillus oryazae) is stopped before it can produce spores (biter taste?).
I didn't find much about the production of RYR (mostly due to papers which weren't free) but it seems that the fermentation takes 5-7 days (plus drying) whereas the fermentation of koji (Aspergillus oryazae) takes only 2-3 days (is this right?).
So, my assumption is, that in RYR it is desired that the fungus will produce spores and therefore there might be a chance to make fresh RYR from storebought RYR and fresh rice. It also could be possible, that the Monascus purpureus just takes longer to grow. It's hard to find any information because if you search for this, you mostly get spammed with all this supplement shit or how to make Red Yeast wine from RYR.
Is there anyone who has any experience or deeper knowledge about this?

I had a question about red yeast rice. Itβs basically a naturally occurring statin, lovastatin. How was the FDA able to ban the sale of red yeast rice with monacolins? I thought that patenting something naturally occurring wasnβt legal.
A modern-era use as a dietary supplement developed in the late 1970s after researchers were isolating lovastatin from Aspergillus and monacolins from Monascus, respectively, the latter being the same fungus used to make red yeast rice. Chemical analysis soon showed that lovastatin and monacolin K were identical. Different strains of Monascus fungus will produce different amounts of monacolins. The 'Went' strain of Monascus purpureus (purpureus = dark red in Latin), when properly fermented and processed, will yield a dried red yeast rice powder that is approximately 0.4% monacolins, of which roughly half will be monacolin K. The two isolations, documentations and patent applications occurred months apart. Lovastatin became the patented, prescription drug Mevacor. Red yeast rice went on to become a non-prescription dietary supplement in the United States and other countries. In 1998, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) initiated action to ban a dietary supplement containing red yeast rice extract. The FDA position was that red yeast rice products that contain monacolin K are identical to a prescription drug and, thus, subject to regulation as a drug. The U.S. District Court in Utah ruled in favor of allowing the product to be sold without restriction. This decision was reversed on appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals in 2001.
I'm interested in trying to grow my own red yeast rice (M. purpureus) for rice wine and red-cooking. Spores seem to be impossible to find, so I'm thinking of trying to use packaged red yeast rice from a local market. I know that isn't usually ideal with Aspergillus koji, but I figure it'll be pretty obvious if the M. purpureus is doing its thing as opposed to something else, given the pigment :)
Has anyone successfully propagated red yeast rice at home before? Tips on temperature/timing?
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Exposure to greenspaces could reduce the high global burden of pain (2020)

>As outlined above, the gut microbiome can influence the brain via various microbially-mediated mechanisms, and those related to chronic pain have recently been reviewed elsewhere (Guo et al., 2019). Microbiota-derived mediators may decrease pain perception via peripheral and central mechanisms. For peripheral mechanisms, the mediators that reduce hypersensitivity include proteases, kynurenic acid, and GABA (Guo et al., 2019). Short-chain fatty acids regulate leucocyte functions, and one of these short-chain fatty acids, butyrate, reduces pain associated with nerve injury by inhibiting histone deacetylase (Guo et al., 2019). Bile acids are another type of mediator, that may reduce pain by activating release of endogenous opioids from macrophages (Guo et al., 2019). The bacteria that could be implicated in the production of the abovementioned mediators include Lactobacillus rhamnosus (Pokusaeva et al., 2017; Siragusa et al., 2007), L. brevis (Barrett et al., 2012), L. buchneri (Cho et al., 2007), L. paracasei (Komatsuzaki et al., 2005), L. plantarum (Siragusa et al., 2007), L. delbruekii subsp. bulgaricus (Siragusa et al., 2007), Monascus purpureus (Su et al., 2003), Streptococcus salivarius subsp. thermophilus (Yang et al., 2008), Clostridium butyricum (Liu et al., 2015; Rivière et al., 2016), Coprococcus eutactus (Rivière et al., 2016), C. comes (Rivière et al., 2016), Bifidobacterium spp. (Rivière et al., 2016), B. dentium (Barrett et al., 2012; Pokusaeva et al., 2017), B. infantis (Barrett et al., 2012), B. adolescentis (Barrett et al., 2012), Bacteroides fragilis (Strandwitz et al., 2019), Parabacteroides spp. (Strandwitz et al., 2019), Faecalibacterium prausnitzii (Rivière et al., 2016), Eubacterium hallii (Rivière et al., 2016), E. rectale (Rivière et al., 2016), Anaerostripes butyraticus (Rivière et al., 2016), A. caccae (Rivière et al., 2016), A. hadrus (Rivière et al., 2016), Butyricicoccus pullicaecorum (Rivière et al., 2016), Roseburia faecis (Rivière et al., 2016), R. inulinivorans (Rivière et al., 2016), R. intestinalis (Rivière et al., 2016), R. hominis (Rivière et al., 2016), and Escherichia spp. (Strandwitz et al., 2019), again supporting a potential association between gut microbiome and pain outcomes.....

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
