Hello Reddit, decided to try to give meaning to all the server names. This is part 1,I had to split it because it was over 40k altogether.

Ill try my best to update, mb add links and stuff. Also shoutout to the devs if they ever see this, thanks for the journey through history and mythology !

NA EAST

Aarnivalkea = in Finnish mythology, a will o' the wisp that burns over a hidden treasure. Generally will o' the wisp is an atmospheric ghost light seen by travelers at night, especially over bogs, swamps or marshes. The phenomenon is know in much of European folklore by a variety of names, including jack-o'-lantern, friar's lantern, hinkypunk and hobby lantern and is said to mislead travelers by resembling a flickering lamp or lantern.

translated as "those beneath us". Inuit are indigenous peoples of the Arctic region.

Paradise that were visited by Bran the Blessed, "Blessed Crow", a giant and king of Britain

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Review: The Years of Rice and Salt by Kim Stanley Robinson

2019 was a year where I got to experience a lot of alternate history books in audio form for the first time. It was also, like 2018 before it, a year where I finally got around to listening to several alternate history I'd been meaning to get around to. Case in point, the book we'll be reviewing today. We're taking a look at the classic alternate history novel The Years of Rice and Salt by Kim Stanley Robinson

The Years of Rice and Salt takes places in a world where the Black Death killed ninety-nine percent of Europe's population. The story follows six or seven individuals, though three in particular, as they are reincarnated over the ages. Robinson makes it easy by having their names start with the same letter. The main characters we follow having names starting in K, B, and I. Secondary characters have names with Z, P, and S. The novel spans hundreds of years of history, and spans numerous nations, giving it a truly global feel to it.

The novel is divided into ten segments of varying lengths, and I will discuss each of them individually. For now, I will give some overall thoughts. I'd been putting off listening to this one, but I'm glad I finally got around to it. I absolutely loved this book. I loved its vast global scope, and how it features nations and cultures you don't often see in alternate history. I also loved the use of reincarnation as a plot device. It was certainly an interesting twist I haven't really seen in too many other alternate history novels. The story uses the Islamic Hegira Calendar for dates. The Islamic year 1 being when Mohammad felid Mecca for Medina in 622 AD. However, I've rendered the dates in the Gregorian Calendar for convenience sake. There's a ton of historical and cultural references throughout the novel. You don't necessarily have to catch them to enjoy the novel, but it adds to the experience. Thankfully, the Kim Stanley Robinson website has this handy reading guide that catalogs and explains them all.

Well, enough of all that, lets dive in.

Our first segment is titled "Awake into Emptiness." It takes place from 1381-1424. It follows a Mongol warrior named Bold who is serving in the army of Timur. Timur has sent Bold to scout ahead into the Hungarian Basin. Bold find a land a

Mythological Tournament of Power Free For All

Same rules as the Tournament of Power in Dragon Ball Super, but since there are many pantheons on this planet, you get to choose which 8 of those pantheons get into this tournament and what their rosters will look like.

As for Pantheon options, you can choose any gods from any pantheon. Such as Australian Aboriginal, Ainu, Algonquin, (Pre-Islamic) Arabian, Armenian, Ashanti, Aztec, Baltic, Basque, Berber, Canaanite, Celtic, Chinese, Circassian, Dahomey, Egyptian, Finnish, Georgian, Greco-Roman, Guanche, Guarani, Haida, Hindu, Hittite, Hopi, Hungarian, Incan, Indonesian, Inuit, Japanese, Korean, Lakota, Mapuche, Mayan, Mbuti, Melanesian, Mesopotamian, Micronesian, Miwok, Muisca, Norse, Ossetian, Paleo-Balkan, Philippine, Polynesian, Ryukyuan, Sami, Siberian, Slavic, Tibetan, Turco-Mongol, Vainakh, Vietnamese, Voodoo, Yoruba, Zoroastrian, Zulu, Abrahamic, Buddhist, Gnostic, Thelemic, Wiccan or any other mythology/religion you can think of both well known and/or obscure that I haven't mentioned in this run-on sentence. Seriously, anything is fair game, even if it comes from a mythology or folklore I've personally never heard of. You just have to pick 8 out of the many pantheons and construct your rosters from there.

After you pick your top 8 pantheons you'd want to see partake in this hypothetical tournament, then you pick what you think would be the strongest gods said pantheons have to offer. Whoever wins this mythological tournament gets to rule the cosmos. With all those formalities out of the way, have fun creating rosters for your favorite pantheons!

These aren't dad jokes...

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.

This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.

If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.

Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.

Server Name References & Meanings

While everyone is scrambling to determine which server to join based on the preferences of friends or streamers or just "sounding cool", I was super curious as to where the ideas for the names came from.

I spent the better part of this weekend digging through Wikipedia and Google and many other educational sites I probably haven't used since college to try to figure out where they pulled the names from and what they mean, or what they're in reference to.

A big shout out to this thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/newworldgame/comments/pt2906/na_west_server_name_meanings/) for all the info on the NA West servers.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to figure them all out. Your help in that aspect would be truly appreciated. I had actually planned to make a YouTube video out of this info, but won't have time before launch, so if anyone wants to use this info for such a reason please feel free.

Amazon New World - Meanings of NA East Server Names / Picking an unofficial LGBTQ+ server

I posted the following in the newworldgame reddit, and it was pretty much downvoted and several people commented along the lines of "there doesn't need to be an LGBT" server. The moderators also removed my post, and I don't know why. Anyway, re-posting here, fam!

________

Hi everyone: I was curious about the names of the various servers/worlds, and here's what I've found. Sorry if some of the formatting is a bit off. I basically copied/pasted mostly from Wikipedia.

  1. Themiscyra. Themiscyra (/ΛŒΞΈΙ›mΙͺˈskΙͺrΙ™/; Greek: Ξ˜Ξ΅ΞΌΞ―ΟƒΞΊΟ…ΟΞ± Themiskyra) was an ancient Greek town in northeastern Anatolia; it was situated on the southern coast of the Black Sea, near the mouth of the Thermodon. According to Greek mythology, it was the capital city of the Amazons. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Themiscyra_(Pontus) (Update: Themiscyra is also the island that Wonder Woman is from, per u/jrsedwick.)
  2. Cantahar. I think this is a reference to a piece of artwork by Frank Stella. https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/493546
  3. Aztlan AztlÑn (from Nahuatl languages: Aztlān, Nahuatl pronunciation: [ˈast͑ɬaːn] (About this soundlisten)) is the ancestral home of the Aztec peoples. Aztecah is the Nahuatl word for "people from Aztlan". Aztlan is mentioned in several ethnohistorical sources dating from the colonial period, and each of them give different lists of the different tribal groups who participated in the migration from Aztlan to central Mexico, but the Mexica who went on to found Mexico-Tenochtitlan are mentioned in all of the accounts. Historians have speculated about the possible location of Aztlan and tend to place it either in northwestern Mexico or the southwest US, although there are doubts about whether the place is purely mythical or represents a historical reality. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aztl%C3%A1n
  4. Yaxche For the Maya, the Tree of Life, called Yaxche, is traditionally a Ceiba tree. This is a tall tree with large buttressed roots, a remarkably straight trunk, and a high horizontal crown. The roots are said to shelter bats, symbolic of the underworld. The trunk teems with insect life, and attracts the animals and birds that feed on them. The crown spreads wide over the jungle canopy, often with four branches that would suggest the
