A list of puns related to "Mexican peso crisis"
first Mexico doesn't peg the peso to the US dollar which overvalued the Peso. Then when their economy starts growing later on and more investors are willing to let the mexican gov. borrow money, Mexico makes sure a greater proportion of it comes from the IMF since starting in the mid 90s made sure countries that borrowed money from them started showing some transparency (depending on how much money they would borrow) to make sure they can pay them back and often times this transparency helped with corruption and would end up being as beneficial (and in some cases even more beneficial) than the money itself.
Hello everybody
I am writing a dissertation on the Mexican financial crisis 1994-1995. I have found the history of this very interesting. However, most of sources are from secondary sources (journals, papers, etc.).
Would anybody have a link to any primary sources about the crisis? Anything like government reports, reports from Banco de MΓ©xico.
I hope you guys can help.
The tequila effect, as it is known, was a financial crisis in Mexico that began in late 1994, and ended in⦠But it was just as economic, as it was political.
1994 was a complicated year for Mexico. Hell, complicated might even be underselling it. 1994 was an insanely complex year. The North America Free Trade Agreement came into effect on January 1. So, in response, and indigenous anarchist group in Chiapas decided to protest, because they felt that they had been left behind during Mexicoβs development. So, naturally, they decided to take arms and in the earliest hours of 1994, taking some cities and towns in the state of Chiapas using violent force. A peace treaty was reached a bit later, with lots of concessions by the government to sustain peace and stability, because it was an electoral year.
A few months later, in March, presidential candidate Luis Donaldo Colosio, from the until very recently de facto single party, who had been in power for 70 years, was murdered in Tijuana, while campaigning. One of the ways the party sustained power for so long was the dedazo, in which the current president would select the partyβs candidate, and everyone would back him. Thus, this method was made vulnerable in 1994, because candidates canβt hold public-office during a six-month period preceding the election. So, no real candidate could take his place, and his campaign manager Ernesto Zedillo was chosen to fill in.
In the Summer Secretary of the Interior Jorge Carpizo resigned amid speculation of pressure over the elections his Secretariat would be organizing but was convinced to return.
The election occurred without problems, with Zedillo winning, because the people wanted to sustain the regular stability, which was threatened due to the events in the previous months. Of course, that didnβt happen, and another magnicide occurred in September. JosΓ© Francisco Ruiz Massieu, PRIβs general secretary was murdered. President Carlos Salinas was questioned about both Colosio and Ruiz Massieuβs murders. Then on October a suspect on Ruiz Massieuβs murder disappeared and has never been seen since. 1
On December 17, with Zedillo now the president, Mexico had lost 855 million dollars of international reserves. It was decided that the exchange rate float band would increase by 15%, devaluating the peso to prevent capital flight. Nothing could be done during the weekend but hope that the increase would be enough to convince the markets that the new exchange rate was sustai

All coins include Airtite capsules (except where noted). Spot is US$1,829 at time of posting. Sorry about saying gold 3 times in the title -- it's always gold!
See videos for many coins below. As a frequent buyer of gold coins I'm often surprised as the reality vs. the pics (often pleasantly). The videos are here for you to know what you're getting.

The Latin Monetary Union (βLMU") was a monetary union in Europe established in 1865 based on coinage standards originating with Napoleon I. Officially, it included France, Belgium, Greece, Italy, Spain, Venezuela, and others. Many other countries (Russia, Finland, Poland, Serbia, etc) matched the standard and minted coins in the same denomination. It was the first 'euro' -- you can find posters identifying the coins that were official members. The LMU fell apart with the onset of WWI, but you can find several coins with the same size in the interwar period (Poland, Yugoslavia, etc) and beyond. I posted a full list of LMU gold coins here.
