A list of puns related to "Mesmerize"
It's not uncommon for English speakers to not know the roots of these words. I can't think of anything similar in Japanese. It's my theory that kanji kind of prevents this but I'd love to be proved wrong.
ps I know some katakana words kind of fall under this category, like γ°γ°γ, but basically everyone knows this is just Google turned into a verb.
Engulf is a real PITA - Phial of Floods doesn't seem to be as effective as being engulfed (by Water Elementals).
Mesmerize - iirc, ?Noise used to be able to break it? ?Fear is hit/ miss given that it checks HD. Is there any counter to it (mesm) now, other than to kill the source?
I want to give the MUA their props!
So I listened to SOAD for the first time a couple weeks and LOVED IT!! I love the combo of Serj's melodic singing and hardcore metal concepts. If I wanna keep listening, what should I listen to next?
From the Japanese writerβs point of view, βwriting a long novel is like survival training. Physical strength is as necessary as artistic sensitivity,β spending his days running and swimming to build up his endurance, as well as competing in marathons and triathlons.
At the start of his writing career, Murakami also ran a small jazz club in Tokyo, where he worked until the early hours of the morning, before going home to write.
After he decided to commit his life entirely to writing, Murakami and his wife, Yoko, closed the bar and moved out to Narashino, a more rural area in the Chiba prefecture of Tokyo.
From there, the writer overhauled his lifestyle and daily routine completely, βonce I was sitting at a desk writing all day I started putting on the pounds. I was also smoking too muchβsixty cigarettes a day. My fingers were yellow, and my body reeked of smoke. This couldnβt be good for me, I decided. If I wanted to have a long life as a novelist, I needed to find a way to stay in shape.β
In Murakamiβs new daily routine, if heβs in novel mode, heβll wake up at 4am and immediately start writing, working for five to six hours. If heβs not in novel mode, Murakami and his wife will still wake up early, βonce I began my life as a novelist, my wife and I decided that weβd go to bed soon after it got dark and wake up with the sun,β typically waking up before 5am and going to bed at 10pm.
While some people may imagine the life of a writer as balancing long stretches of idleness with flash in pan inspiration moments, the reality is that writing, and creativity, is more of a steady grind. Murakmai says, βI have to pound away at a rock with a chisel and dig out a deep hole before I can locate the source of my creativityβ β a sentiment which reflects his structured routine and lifestyle.
Murakami will typically finish up his dayβs writing at 10am or 11am. From there, heβll proceed to his physical training.
>In the afternoon, I run for 10km or swim for 1500m (or do both), then I read a bit and listen to some music. I go to bed at 9:00 pm. I keep to this routine every day without variation. The repetition itself becomes the important thing; itβs a form of mesmerism. I mesmerize myself to reach a deeper state of mind. But to hold to such repetition for so long β six months to a year β requires a good amount of mental and physical strength.

... keep reading on reddit β‘I think that they peaked in song writing and song weight in general. In my opinion Toxicity and Steal this album had a lot of fluff songs that couldβve been discarded or made into a bigger song with other smaller songs. I donβt really see that on mesmerize, as all the songs (except Cigaro I guess) have a good length and have a lot going on. Not saying that their previous albums had absolute bangers, I just think that mezmerise is their peak.
The Spirit seems to function by hypnotising targets it has direct line of sight on. Once it's hooked them, it keeps their attention by... looking inside them and whispering to them about their dark fears and bad memories. Hence why some of them mumble things like;

Duke Abele:
Duke's Double:
Crown Killer:
And, most interestingly, from Jindosh:
I remember the blast of energy that was hearing Mesmerize for the first time, but I think in the long run I have played Hypnotize far more times. Which one is your favorite?
