Minor update on the recently identified Hwaseong "Memories of Murder" serial killer, Choon-jae Lee: latest photo released, search for another victim ongoing.

Pictures from Lee's late teenage years and from his army days have been already publicized, but while those were useful for comparison between his appearance and the earlier sketch of the murderer (and they indeed closely matched the description provided by the bus driver who gave the killer a ride in 1988), this is his current look:

http://image.kmib.co.kr/online_image/2019/1103/611212110013887171_1.jpg

There is now an ongoing search for the remains of his possibly youngest victim, who disappeared in 1989 at the age of 8; Lee has now admitted responsibility for her murder, and pointed out the approximate location where he had disposed of her body. (There is conflicting information on her; some sources seem to conflate her with a previously listed 14-year-old victim).

I'm currently waiting for Parasite to be released where I live and thought I'd watch some of Bong-Joon Ho's other movies while I wait. Memories of Murder looks really interesting, but I can only find it on Blu-Ray from France with French subtitles, or from Japan with Japanese subtitles. Is it available anywhere with English subtitles?

I watched Bong Joon-Ho's "Memories of Murder" (2003)

So in light of the current Parasite hype i wanted to watch some more of Joon-Ho's filmography as i was intrigued by his way of film-making.

And boy, was this movie fantastic. It had a very 80's neo-noir style mixed with Korean culture. The characters were all greatly written and i enjoyed the initial duality of Inspectors Park and Seo, when they more and more turned into each other, with Park becoming more analytical and Seo becoming more emotional.

My favourite shot was probably that gob-smacking look of Park after the little girl in the last scene of the movie tells him that he was rather "plain" looking and he remembers how he discarded his list of "plain" suspects all those years ago.....

An interesting thing I noticed about Memories of Murder (2003)....

MAJOR SPOILERS for the ending.

So by the end of the film, the murders are still left unsolved. In the very last shot, Park looks directly at the camera in an apparent fourth wall break, trying to make eye contact with the killer in the audience.

It was just in news recently that the one Lee Choon-jae had been identified as the actual killer.

There’s a good chance he’s seen the film, whether out of curiosity or amusement or whatever.

And there must’ve been that same moment at the end, when Park was looking at HIM, using his eye contact method.

It’s just really fascinating to think about.

Binge watched Murder House to refresh my memory and I have a bold question about the end of the show.

SPOILER ALERT! Don’t read any further if you haven’t seen Murder House.

So at the end of the series we see that the twins are born, the first is stillborn and taken away and the other is fine and we all know what becomes of his fate. 😈

Here’s my observation with the other twin now living with his rightful family. This baby is in the spirit world, the end of the last episode shows the family gathered around a Christmas tree with religious/holiday music playing. My theory is... what if the stillborn is the essence of the next coming of Christ/Jesus to fight Michael the Antichrist?

Also the gay couple were redoing the nursery and had painted one of the cribs red and the other was white. Is this symbolism? Red for evil and white for good?

Totally an out there idea but I haven’t seen anyone per a google search with this theory?

Thoughts?

Edit: Remeber the painting of the red crib was done because the one gay guy wanted it red and he was the one always cheating and fighting with his lover (evil) and the other played by Zachary Quinto was more loving and just wanted everything to be perfect and live happily with the man he loved (good). So... more good and evil?

It really makes me want to give my precious kubs a big reward.

  • Autopsy Report Fuyuhiko died instantly. Judging from the position of the wound, he was hit from behind and from above.

Memories of Murder Question

So after watching Parasite the other day(amazing movie btw, just watch it), I decided to dive a little bit into Bong Joo-Ho's filmography and thought that Memories of murder would be a good start. So I really liked the movie, although detective mysteries aren't exactly my thing and there is a cultural gap that made some things look a little awkward,I really enjoyed the amazing directing ,cinematography and interesting characters. That said one thing I didn't understand at all,was the scene when the 1st detective ( Kang-ho Song 's character ) meets his GF(?) somewhere by the sea,he is exhausted and she administers him so kind of intravenous drug. What was it supposed to be and why would he take it?Later in the movie she picks something similar from a pharmacy ,so was it something obvious I missed?

I witnessed my neighborβ€˜s murder last month, it’s bringing back memories of my dad

So I witnessed the murder of a neighbor about a month ago. Completely out of nowhere, wasn’t involved with bad people. I called 911 but feel bad for not doing CPR or something else and he was dead on arrival. I attended some religious services and such.

My dad also died of traumatic injuries about a year ago, which I witnessed as well. I thought I was over the worst part of grieving for my dad, but lately I’ve been having dreams about him almost every night. And then I wake up disappointed. I’m pretty sure it has to do with what happened last month and bringing up old feelings. I keep seeing my dad standing next to my bedroom door, going into my room without knocking as usual.

Academically, my grades are in shambles but it’s been too long for me to use my grief as an excuse. I feel stuck.

Memories of Murder ending?? (Spoilers)

Again, SPOILERS

What are we to make of the film’s ending? Was the killer someone we saw in the film, or is the idea meant to be that it could be anyone?

It seemed very odd that the guy from the warehouse called and requested the obscure song, and he acted coy about it when questioned.

Is there something to glean from the guy who runs in front of the train’s reaction to the picture and his non-response to whether it was the man?

I just finished the film minutes ago for the first time and I’m trying to piece this together.
