So, some examples on how capitalism is looting us:
Created a profile on shaadi.com, for obvious reasons there are limitations in contacting prospective matches. Until you buy their plans, you will be bombarded with calls and messages.
Now, when you buy the plan, there is a ‘policy’ of refund. You have to use it for at least a month before you are eligible for a refund. There is no pro rata deduction of charges. You have to use the app for a month, reach out to 10 people, and only if they do not revert you can get a refund. Specific details might vary.
Now when your membership is ending, you are again bombarded with ads. If you might like the experience you may want to renew it. Here comes a live scenario: I installed another app from a rival, not sure if this was a reason, but the renewal prices for the first app reduced drastically. Like from around 3k to 1.7k. I wanted to get a 6 month pack which was costing me around 2k, but because of an oversight (read absentmindedness/distracted mistake) I made the payment towards 3 months plan. I thought I will get it upgraded via customer care. Shocker:
- They won’t refund the previous payment in spite of me telling them I wanted a better plan
- Payment will only be refunded when I make the payment towards the new plan
- There is no option to make balance payment
- The new plan now costs 5k, no discounts applicable. Within 5 minutes.
Now I know everyone is in it to make money, show profits to board members, but is this the correct and ethical way? Isn’t it just as simple as fleecing?
I am building a matrimonial website as my new side project and actually would like to launch it and try to make some cash from it.
So far aside from the usual profile and suggestions features that most of the existing websites have I will make it look and feel like just regular social media site.
I also plan to have chat rooms where people can discuss many topics.
I plan to create an online chat also, from my experience I do not want to give someone my number or a messaging account so soon. I'd rather be able to chat to them for a while in the website before deciding to take it to a messaging app such as WhatsApp.
I am also looking into building a profile picture validator. I plan to only allow pictures taken by a camera and also maybe using a module to detect a face or not. The user will also have the option to have no profile photo but pictures such as flowers or cats will not be allowed.
Also for revenue I will depend on potential advertising. However it will make more business sense ( at least to myself) to keep the website target market specific to an area. Is this the best way?

How effective are matrimonial websites in finding a good match ? How long is the average time to be on there before one finds a match?
My sister's profile has been on 1 ( or 2 ) matrimonial websites for 1 ( or 2 ) yrs. The response has been pathetic. I can understand much of it has to do with the fact that she has a disability in the eye which is a deal breaker when you are looking for matches for arranged marriage. But yet, there should be some responses I guess ..or is it like going to a club and saying there's nobody good to date ?
So if you have had experiences in these sites , you can share. Or please share some tips ?
And, what are the 5 ways to look for a groom ?
Looking for experiences by Indian women:
This post maybe mostly applicable to Indian women on Matrimonial websites (like Bharat Matrimony). How are you/ did you navigate the system? There are just is many men on the website, and they (or other parents) keeping DMing you even if doesn't seem like a potential match. My specific questions to you are:
a. How did you make real connections to people whose profiles you genuinely liked? Did you text them, or directly speak to them via phone?
b. Did you chat with multiple potential men at once?
c. How long did you talk to each match before saying yes or no?
d. Did you put up your photo on the website?
e. Did you have random men who found your profile on other platforms and constantly DMed you there?
f. Did anyone have success on this website? Care to share your story?

I live in Canada (born and raised) and would prefer someone already living in Canada. I don't care if they grew up in India or elsewhere.
I've tried Shaadi for 2 weeks now and not having much luck there. It seems to be that if you're not in Jat caste, the girls don't want anything to do with you. Vast majority of people there are Jat. I don't care about caste at all but alot of people do at Shaadi. I'm Rajput and there is hardly any of us around.
I also noticed many profiles without pictures and I avoid those. As well, I avoid any profiles where it's set up by the parent especially if girl is in her late 20s or 30s. That's a sign to me that they're not self-sufficient or they may not want to get married.
So, any good websites for Sikh dating/matrimonials?
