The truth behind Archbishop Havel the Rock (Major Spoilers for the DLC, the lore behind most of Dark Souls, and some minor spoilers here and there)

Archbishop Havel the Rock, the right hand of Gwyn, slayer of dragons, head of Havel's Knights, and my favorite character in all of Dark Souls. There's a constant statement I hear about the location of Havel in Dark Souls; and it is that Havel the Rock is located in the Watchtower before the Taurus Demon fight. Personally, I don't think we have ever met Havel, not in Dark Souls 1, 2, or 3.

But first, a little backstory. (Yes this does matter as to who actually is in the tower) Some of this story I will deliver is based somewhat on speculation derived from item descriptions and character dialogue. Havel is a great religious figure in Gwyn's church, or the Way of the White. Havel was Gwyn's right hand, and worshiped Gwyn with such fervor and held such strength that he could create his own miracles. Havel despises dragons and magic users, but above all he despises Seath. Havel likely harbors a hatred for dragons when Gwyn took the surface from them. He distrusts Seath because of this hatred, and likely advised Gwyn against trusting Seath. As Seath is the father of Sorcery, Havel also comes to hate Sorcery. Eventually, at some point, Havel ends up in an argument with Gwyn over Seath and leaves Gwyn's service, taking his men with him.

Speaking of Havel's men, it's a little strange that the item Havel's Ring (http://darksouls.wikia.com/wiki/Havel%27s_Ring) doesn't mention Havel wearing the ring, yet everyone treats it as the proof that the follower in the Watchtower is the definitive Havel. It states that A) The ring is named after Havel, but it doesn't say why at first. I assume it is because Havel was a greatly respected military leader. B) Havel's men wore this ring, and it gave them the ability to carry more. I believe it is safe to assume that Havel was the only one able to carry his equipment without this magical ring.

What does this mean? It means two things; Havel had a following of people who emulated his armor and weaponry; and that only Havel's following required the ring.

When we find the person the wiki refers to as Havel the Rock in the tower before the Taurus Demon boss fight is not Archbishop Havel, he is a follower of Havel's. But, why is he where he is? I have a theory. It's obvious that the follower can simply leave, nothing is stopping him from smashing the doors open and walking out. This makes it safe to assume that he doesn't want to leave. He may be protecting something, and I think I know what. The quickest and easiest way from the

What do you think of the BRF's media strategy?

HMTQ excluding Harry and Meghan from her Christmas address got me thinking more about the BRF's media strategy over the past year, and I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on this!

I didn't always agree with the BRF and their "never complain, never explain," approach to all the Megxit drama. Why didn't they hit back when the Sussexes slandered them in the media? Why were all their statements so vague and polite ("Recollections may vary")? I didn't think HMTQ could strip Harry and Meghan of their titles, since Prince Andrew still has his, but couldn't they at least remove them from their website? From a distance, it looked like BRF were stubbornly insisting on taking the high road, even if it made them look spineless and weak.

I was wrong. In hindsight, it looks like the BRF (and their comms team) executed a very clever, deliberate media strategy. The famous Chinese general Sun Tzu said "know your enemy." The BRF knew Harry and Meghan, and that they weren't smart or strategic. They also knew the Sussexes were impulsive, rash, 100% driven by ego/emotions, and couldn't play the long game. Harry and Meghan wanted global stardom and a multibillion dollar brand, and they wanted it now. The BRF knew all this, which is why they were able to predict the Sussexes' next move β€” every. single. time.

They knew that if they ignored Harry and Meghan, the Sussexes would continue lashing out, and that each publicity stunt would get bigger, louder, and more desperate. They knew that, in doing so, the Sussexes would inadvertently cause the public to lose interest, due to their overexposure. They also knew it was only a matter of time before the people who did still read stories about Harry and Meghan realized how unlikeable, greedy, hypocritical, and fame hungry they are.

But public perception isn't everything. After all, everyone hates Mark Zuckerberg, and he's a billionaire. What about the deals? Well, I think the BRF also knew that Harry and Meghan had nothing of value to offer these big companies who came rushing in the early months of Megxit. Sure, the Sussexes were a hot commodity β€” at first. But Netflix, Spotify, and Random House would inevitably discover what the BRF already knew: that Harry and Meghan aren't just lacking in work ethic. They also have nothing of value to offer. No talent, no expertise, no entertainment value. Nothing. I mean, how long do you think it took after all the Oprah interview backlash for Gayle King to let everyone in her netw

Correcting Several Misconceptions about Fodlan's Political Situation

There was an essay (referred to as OP from now on) posted to this sub recently that got quite a number of things wrong about Fodlan and its political situation (ironically, in a post that claimed to address misconceptions), and so I have risen from my reddit dormancy to correct the record. I will start with a discussion of the state of Fodlan and the crest system, move onto the role and power of the Church in all this, and end with a discussion of Edelgard and her partnership with the murder muppets.

All quotations are sourced from https://fedatamine.com/en-us/. The location of the quote (explore chapter, battle, or event name) will be provided for reference.

The Aristocrestocracy

The OP makes the argument that because Crests are not uniformly and consistently a requirement for a person or family to be noble, they are not intrinsically tied into the aristocratic power structure of Fodlan. This is laughable considering how much of the game focuses on Crests and their impacts on characters and power. Just because an exception exists does not mean that a consistent pattern is invalid. For instance, to argue that the Victorian era was not a restrictive time to be a British woman because the monarch of the time was female would be idiotic.

Starting off at the Kingdom, there are seven major families listed in the Register of Kingdom Nobles – Blaiddyd, Fraldarius, Gautier, Charon, Galatea, Rowe, and Kleiman. Of these, Blaiddyd, Fraldarius, Gautier, and Charon have always held significant power in the Kingdom, and all of them have crested bloodlines. Galatea defected from the Alliance with a Major Crest and a Relic and was instantly granted land and status in the Kingdom. Notably, they brought no land and were given some, showing the importance of a crested bloodline. The two major houses without crests essentially bought noble titles through the addition of land to the Kingdom (through deceit or outright murder) – Rowe with Arianrhod and Kleiman with Duscur.

If this isn’t enough to show the overwhelming dominance of Crests over Kingdom politics, we have two families where the secondborn crested son was made heir over the firstborn crestless son, explicitly because of his crest – the Blaiddyds and the Gautiers.

>Dimitri (Crests: The Good and the Bad): It’s far from uncommon for someone to lose their ability to lead their house because they don’t bear a crest. Just like Miklan. It happened to my uncle as well. The

My proposal for a monarchist state

Here I give my proposal for a monarchist state and for this example I will use France since I live there. This will be long

Part I: Designated powers

The Kingdom of France will be divided by three branches. The King’s authority is to act as the supreme commander of the armed forces and enact laws. All laws must be signed by the king or his regent if incapable. The King also has the authority to enact law and bypass the parliament. All actions by the king must however adhere to God’s law. His residence shall be Versailles but Paris would remain the capital.

The Parliament will be divided between the democratically elected Chamber of Deputies and the unelected Chamber of Nobles. The Deputies have the authority to write laws and must be approved by the majority of Deputies and then subsequently the Chamber of Nobles to then be approved by the king. Terms for Deputies will be 6 years in length and serve no more than three terms. Nobles serve for life or until they are incapable of fulfilling their duties. Plebiscites can be called to remove a noble and if successful the noble will resign form the parliament and be replaced. The head of the parliament is the Grand Master of France who is appointed by the king and serves at the king’s pleasure. Likewise the King holds the authority to dissolve parliament as he sees fit

The judicial branch consists of two parts the council of the civil law and the council of ecclesiastic law. The council of civil law will comprise 5 judges who decide if a law is constitutional and the council of ecclesiastic law consists of 7 members either bishops or theologians to declare if the law is in line with God’s line. If an action by either the king or the parliament is unlawful it will not pass. Judges are appointed by the king with the majority approval of the parliament. If the King wishes to remove a judge he must gain a 70 percent approval of the parliament in both chambers. There would also be 43 provinces based on historical and cultural boundaries and would be managed by the nobles and the elected governors of each province. Provinces can then decide how their local government operates.

Part II: The Constitution

Preamble - By the grace of God the Kingdom of France is a catholic nation ruled by a divine monarchical authority. The ruling house of France is the House of Bourbon, the junior branch of Capet. The king shall be the closest male relative of the king. The Houses of Orleans and Bonaparte are forbidden from

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Byzantine Britons and the Catholic Conqueror - was England an Eastern Orthodox country between 1054 and 1066?

So, I was on discord earlier today, and a friend forwarded an image to me on this topic. Naturally, such a claim piqued my interest, as I had generally thought that Britain had been on the Catholic side of the Great Schism. As such, my first instinct was to just google the claim and I quite soon found the source of this claim. That is, this article on OrthodoxWiki.

Now, I am not very narrow minded and was willing to seriously research the claims made, but OrthodoxWiki? Really? Is that your source, random person a discord friend knows? Shame on them! But luckily, the article provides us with a SOURCE. And yes, it is a scholarly source. One that... disagrees with them. Laughs all around, I know.

To quote Jack Turner: "Overall, the judgement of most historians has been contrary to the vision put forward by those Orthodox Christians." As he has laid out in his article, whilst there were a few areas where the Anglo-Saxon church seemingly agreed with what would become Eastern Orthodoxy over Catholicism, such as the usage of leavened bread rather than unleavened, this was not unique to Britain in this time, and there is also evidence that unleavened bread was known of in Britain long before then, during the time of Alcuin of York (735-804). Furthermore, as Jack Turner notes, there was some contact between Britain and the Byzantines, but it was "exceedingly rare". Overall, the Anglo-Saxon church aligned more with the Latin church than the Byzantine one.

Now, we come to the other half: the Catholic Conqueror, the leader of the Norman-Papist invasion force that brought an end to the mostly non-existent English Orthodox Church. Indeed, William set out to destroy their traditions and enforce papist heresy on the isles (and if he could go to space, the entire universe, I assume). He claims William set out in 1070 to purge the Anglo-Saxon church of orthodox leaders for purely religious reasons, ending in Archbishop Stigand being removed from this position. With clergy being a major power player in medieval politics, it is likely that William set out to put Normans in influential church positions for political purposes, as a way to cement his power as king of England. However, it must be noted

[Novels] Analysis on Arc 7 Subaru + Predictions

So I think Volume 28 has come out now and Chapter 40 of the WN has been released as of this post, so I wanted to share an analysis of Subaru and what he might be going through as well as my speculations as to what may happen throughout the rest of Arc 7. Admittedly my confidence in being able to predict things is very low, but it doesn't hurt to try to guess, right? I apologize in advance for the length as there's a lot I want to talk about.

First off, and I apologize again for starting this off with a rant, but am I the only one who does not believe in Natsumi serving as Subaru's "hero mask" or the idea that he decided to remain as her for a bit longer due to low self esteem? My main reason for feeling this way is because I feel that the thought of Natsumi being Subaru's hero mask makes the entirety of what Subaru went through in Arc 6 completely pointless. Arc 6 was meant to showcase that Subaru had come a long way since he first came to the other world and that he was an incredible person for accomplishing things that no one else could possibly do in his shoes, not even his past self. In that case, what would be the point of Subaru needing to learn that lesson again in Arc 7? Rather, I think having him needing to learn it again literally one arc after just makes the whole thing feel weaker as a result. Besides, how can you beat Subaru being told he's amazing by none other than himself?

Here's what I believe is going on. Subaru had been magically teleported to Vollachia along with Rem and Louis not that long after the ordeal back at the Pleiades Watchtower. Rem has woken up but has amnesia, and Louis was one of the Sin Archbishops of Gluttony which leaves Subaru on edge being around her as he fears what she might do. He then gets dragged into a war situation between the Emperor, Vincent, and the ones who chased him off his throne, and Subaru can't go home to Lugunica until the situation is resolved due to the borders being heavily guarded. He also has an overly cautious sociopath chasing him down, and to top all of that off, Rem no longer considers him her hero and has been trying everything she could to get away from him. That's a lot for him to take in such a short time. Subaru even mentions at one point in Chapter 22 about how the whole situation was starting to drain at his soul and in Chapter 30, we saw him break down to the point of slamming his head against the wall. He is already at his mental and emotional limit; his heart is shattering, he's
