A list of puns related to "MIDI keyboard"
I just want a great synth action keyboard with pitch and mod wheels, and a way to very easily and quickly switch between midi channels, all in a decent designed package, that's it.
But that doesn't seem to exist. It's either mini keys and no midi out, or one million features including designing the midi keyboard for a specific software. I don't want to control software, I want to control hardware.
Is there a product out there that I have missed?
I wanna buy midi keyboard which one is the best
Im beginner, I dont need something expensive or over complicated. I need something cheap, easy to use .
So I've been entertaining the idea of possibly adding a MIDI keyboard along with my usage of my Maschine MK3. I've been thinking about getting a Komplete Kontrol A49. However, I use ableton with my Maschine and am wondering if I will be able to use both the keyboard and my maschine simultaneously within ableton. Is it even worth it to add a keyboard to my workflow along with my maschine? The main goal here it to help learn chord progressions and music theory with the keyboard, to aid in my overall level of production efficiency and understanding, hence the 49 key proposition as opposed to a 25 key. I've read that a 49 key is much better suited for this purpose than a smaller keyboard. If everything is sound with my idea of adding a keyboard, I'd like to keep my budget as low as possible, hence getting the A49. Also, I'd like to keep the keyboard within NI products. The A49 seems best for my purpose. Help me decide with my inquiries here. Thanks
Hello everyone! I'm new to DAW music production (I have a lot of experience with old school trackers and know string instruments, so I'm not new to music altogether) and after messing around for some months using DAWs like Ardour Ive decided that I want to buy a MIDI keyboard to furtherexplore music production.
I previously ran across products that required vendor specific drivers to work (like the GT-001 guitar effect processor) because they are not specs compliant and I do not want to repeat the same error this time.
My budget is in the 150/200 euros range and I just want to get some suggestions about keyboards that are good for the price range and do not require special drivers to work (if someone has one that works on Linux and can recommend it that would be extra reassuring).
Some of the keyboards that looked like a good purchase to me are:
- https://www.thomann.de/it/m_audio_oxygen_pro_49.htm (lots of controls, idk if ill ever use all of them)
- https://www.thomann.de/it/arturia_keystep_37.htm (kinda dubious about this one since it has windows only software to customize stuff, not a deal breaker since I would not need it 100% of the time but its still meh) (besides the software thing its still very interesting)
- https://www.thomann.de/it/nektar_impact_lx49_395176.htm (this one includes a Bitwig 8-track license, which is Linux compatible so there's that, not that special besides that)
- https://www.thomann.de/it/roland_a49_black.htm (kinda barebones, not entirely a bad thing)
- https://www.thomann.de/it/cakewalk_a300pro.htm (idk if it requires proprietary software to work, couldn't find a lot of information about it)
- https://www.strumentimusicali.net/product_info.php/products_id/39256/samson-graphite-49.html (same little information problem)
- https://www.thomann.de/it/nektar_impact_gxp49.htm (EDIT: seems expensive for the features offered, but lists official Linux compatibility)
All keyboards are up to 49 key range because of space constrains.
There are also some keyboards I left out because of heavy wind

I've been writing a web app to learn sight-reading: ReadingMusic.org and wanted to show it to you guys and ask for feedback (and of course if you like it, use it as much as you want!)
It generates random exercises that you can use to practice using a midi keyboard. You can listen, play the notes while the app waits for you (so play the right notes at any time) or play the right notes at the right time.
You can also play human-written exercises, I added a couple of classical fragments as a demo but it's a work in progress.
I'll not give you more details about how to use it to see how usable it is, but I'd be happy to discuss this in the comment section!
Thank you all!!
I recently purchased a Native Instruments S61 synth controller to use with Logic Pro because all of the Youtube videos claiming it is great. It's been nothing but a headache since day 1. I have to operate in Rosetta mode because of my M1 and now the Yamaha sustain pedal just doesn't work. With so many people using Logic Pro - why won't Apple just make a synth controller? This is beyond frustrating. I feel like I'm back on a PC again messing with configurations to get all of my tools to work.
I want to use an external MIDI controller to "play" keyboard sounds while I play other sounds on the instrument with my hands. I saw that the Yamaha Reface CP has midi-input capability. But the question is, is it monotimbral or multitimbral? can I set my external MIDI sequencer to trigger, say, the electric piano on channel 1, and the toy piano on channel 2, in the same sequence? What are some keyboards that do this, besides large workstation style keyboards (ex. Fantom) ?
I've a midi keyboard with the editor software that it comes with, and I wish to use some of it's pads as "play, stop, record" buttons. And maybe a pad to trigger the metronome.
Note: I don't want to just map a note that the pad is set to trigger by default, to one of the transport buttons stated above.
Edit: Ok, so this means that if you press the key C1 on your keyboard, it will also trigger the start. This way I know it works for me aswell, however I was looking to trigger the play stop via a CC signal (which doesn't also activate the play button by pressing a certain note on the keyboard). I programmed the pad via the editor to send a cc signal instead of a certain note, but when I try to map it in reason, it doesn't react when I press the pad (although it shows that it is assigned in the override window), for play and stop only.
Thank you for trying to help, I will keep searching for why don't the play stop exclusively don't respond to CC signals.
Midi signals are in two forms, Notes (triggering the mapped button when a certain note signal is sent) and CC (another type of signal sent, that doesn't have a note assigned to it (signals used usually when mapping faders etc). Thank you!
Hi guys 😎🤘🏻 I am a totally blind musician who has just started diving into the world of music production, and I was just hoping to ask what are the best MIDI instruments for someone with a visual impairment. Preferably something compatible for a DAW on Iphone/Mac, but right now I mainly just use my Iphone’s garage band. Thank you very much in advance.

Hey everyone, I'm looking for recommendations for a MIDI keyboard. I'm looking for one that is smaller scale, like 25 keys or slightly bigger, but also has full sized keys. I've had the little Akai LPK 25 for years but want something with bigger weightier keys that will feel better to play. I don't really need any other functionality or fancy attachments on the board. Thanks!
Hello! My friends bought me a midi keyboard (32 keys) for xmas, it was the gift I really wanted and I don't want it to be covered in dust, so I'd like to learn some basic theory and practice it on the keyboard to get used to it.
I just know I'll never become a musician, music is just my hobby, I want to have it more in my life, but I don't have time for it because of my started career. I don't really want to play a piano or have a full-size synthesizer at the moment. My target for this midi keyboard - I want to be able to write some bass/piano parts in daw for my guitar.
My background - I have an electric guitar for about 1.5 years, know a little about notes on the fretboard, tried to learn notes with phone app long time ago (maybe this is the time for a comeback), so I know how to find C on the keyboard (ofc I don't have enough practice to see every key, for my sight it's like there are BC and EF and other notes), I have tried to recognize on ear some songs and wrote it in guitar pro so I know a bit about notation itself. But when it comes to scales (not on the guitar fretboard, but in music theory), chords progression and other theory, I'm done. Long story short, I'm not a complete beginner from 0, I'm a complete beginner from 0.1 :)
So I want some help with finding guides for dummies/apps maybe, some practices or some basic (or not basic) melodies for a ~2.5 octave keyboard
Hi everyone ! I would love it if you could help me with this :)
It's been a few days that my MIDI controller keyboard isn't detected by my PC when I plug it in using a MIDI USB-B cable (it doesn't even appear in the Device Manager). It was quite buggy for months, and I tried using a new cable but it didn't help. However before it completely stopped working, it used to be detected only when blocking the USB port of the keyboard in a specific position (it was a bit loose), so I highly suspect that the problem is this USB Port.
It's an old and cheap keyboard but before I'll buy a new one, I'd like to try using the MIDI out Port (there is no MIDI in). After making some researches on Google, I found that you can either plug your music equipment to the PC using MIDI USB cables (MIDI in and out converted to USB) or a MIDI USB-B cable (just USB to USB type B), but I couldn't find much information on having only 1 MIDI output, and plugging directly into the PC USB port...
So my question to you wise people is :
Do you think I could simply buy this cable : https://www.amazon.com/Interface-Converter-Adapter-Indicator-Keyboard/dp/B087G7L7J2/
plug the "MIDI IN" into the "MIDI OUT" of my keyboard and insert the USB plug into my PC ? Is it a problem if the "MIDI OUT" plug is unused ? This all might sound obvious to you but as soon as I found that most controller keyboards have both a MIDI IN and OUT port, but I have only a MIDI OUT port, I got really confused !
If I am understanding this well, the MIDI Output of the keyboard should be the one used to send information to the PC, so there shouldn't be any problem right ?
I am using Cubase Element as a DAW.
Forgive me if I am getting some things wrong as I am fairly new to music equipment :) !
Thank you very much for your help ♥
I'm a beginner so nothing fancy, just a solid and a reliable one. Thanks
I want a mobile setup for play music with my computer with midi keyboards and my guitar. The idea is send audio from the computer to the amp so i can use ableton with my mini computer anywhere but also beign able to play guitar and more stuff at the same time. The thing is power stations are so expensive and i'm not sure if the cheap ones will do the job so i'm thinking into using a car battery and one inverter like some buskers does but i don't know if i could have the amp and the computer with keyboards at the same time without energy problems.
Does anyone knows if a 300w inverter could do the job?
any suggestions?
Greetings from Mexico!
Recently got into to making beats and looking to find the right keyboard. Was hoping to see what other people here might use and recommend within a 200$ limit.
I'd love to have something like the Arturia KeyLab 88 (or similar) so I can become familiar with the one keyboard that has full range, but connect various other synths (via a patch selector etc) to play the same keys though use the sounds and parameter controls of other synths.
IAt this stage I have a reface CS, and am still learning a lot, but I'd love to play it with a full keybed with full sized keys, and perhaps weighted keys if I find them of value.
Same with other synths I've considered purchasing, I'd like to control them with a key bed I can become familiar with, rather than having to get used to multiple keys with different sizes and feels when ever I want to use their sounds. Especially as many that I would like have 2-3 octaves.
Similar to guitars, I'd rather have one that I feel comfortable playing and using various pedals or modlers to change the sounds, rather than getting having to adjust my technique when switching from a Fender to an Ibanez, for example. I'm comfortable playing just about any guitar if familiar enough, but switching between them toke me time to adjust. I assume it's the same with synths, if not worse, given the diversity of keys sizes, resistance and sensitivity, not to mention octave ranges.
Is there a simple enough solution to overcome this?
Apologies if this is frequently asked, but google is useless.
I need to buy a piano for a class that I'm taking this semester in college, but I also do some music production as a hobby on my own. I really want a keyboard that I can use to practice piano, but can also use for when I'm making something on my computer. I've looked around a bit and I haven't been able to find anything. Does anyone know if this exists or where I could get one? Much appreciated!
I’m new to making music and I’ve been using my iPhone to record my guitar and using my Mac keyboard to play along to it. My budget is $100. I’ve watched YouTube videos but all the keyboards they have links to are paid.
Hello everyone! I'm thinking of purchasing my first MIDI keyboard, and I'm slipt between the Arturia Minilab MkII and the Akai MPK Mini MK3. I use FL Studio 20, but I'm attracted to the idea of the Analog lab the Arturia MIDI comes with, even though I would kinda have to switch to Ableton Live Lite, which I think would take some time for me to get used to and it won't have the same functionalities the full Ableton version has. What would you guys recommend? Best regards!
Just reaching out one last time before I throw it away because I really would hate to if I can still save it somehow. My alesis q25 has served me well for about a year and it recently stopped working completely.
My computer says "USB device not recognized" and the lights on the keyboard only flash on for a moment before dying and shutting off. I got a brand new cord and this didn't fix it, still says "USB device not recognized"
It wasn't super expensive but I still would think I could get more than a year out of it and I haven't spilled anything on it or anything like that, one day it just randomly stopped being recognized by my computer.
TLDR; my alesis q25 isn't recognized by my computer it just says "USB device not recognized"
Anyone?
OK I must be going crazy. I'm using the MIDI 1/4 inch adapter that came with my Microfreak. When I connect from my interface MIDI out from my DAW to the MF it works fine. When I connect my DeepMind6 (used as a MIDI controller) to my input of my interface into my DAW it works fine. So I know the cables work. However, when I try to connect the MIDI out of my DeepMind6 used as a MIDI controller to the MF I get nothing. What am I doing wrong??? I've made sure the MIDI inputs on both my MF and DeepMind are set to input 1. ARGH! I'm losing it!
EDIT: As a temporary workaround which is NOT ideal is connecting the DeepMind MIDI out to my interface MIDI in and then sending out of my DAW via interface MIDI out into the Microfreak MIDI in. Then of course taking the audio out of the Microfreak back into my interface to record audio into my DAW. Oh my god. Seriously.
EDIT AGAIN: So I unplugged and plugged the cable in all the inputs on the MF and not sure whether it clicked something in but now plugged into MIDI in it works! Thanks everyone for you suggestions. I was losing my mind over it!
Absolute noob here, not sure how possible this is but I want to connect:
Any advice would be great
Hi, new to Logic Pro and I searched through quite a bit of posts in this sub before asking
What’s a good midi keyboard for Logic Pro? Preferably with weighted keys. I know those are rare so really any good midi would do (easy integration). I have a Casio CDP-S350 and while that can technically act as a midi controller it isn’t ideal for my setup.
Looking for 49 or 61 keys. So far I’ve only come across AKAI stuff but I can’t seem to find any info on how easily it integrates into Logic. Studiologic SL88 is just way out of my budget.
I’m loving Logic so far but just learning about midis and the terminology and getting things to nicely play with each other is a chore and really dampening the “fun” of making music.
I'm thinking about buying a 61 midi keyboard, and my interface doesn't have the 5 pin inputs to connect it. Can I just connect the midi keyboard straight into pc via USB?
Hi guys, I have a question. Would it be possible to hook up my Korg B2 electric MIDI piano to my Sonos system to perform for my family? I think the way to go might be by connecting my keyboard to my iPad with a USB A to USB C cable. However when I AirPlay the sound from my iPad to the Sonos it doesn’t pick up the sound I play. I’m using Simply Piano as an app, so another app might do the trick. Let me know if you can help!
Im looking into getting a portable 25 key controller, as well as a larger 61/88 key for the home studio. I had a Komplete Kontrol with a Maschine but NKS standard was a letdown. I was looking into Akais VIP software, or Arturias lab software. My main focus is pre mapped DAW transport/VST controls and quick workflow. I work in multiple DAWs so any daw specific keyboards like a novation launch key or proprietary mini DAW plugins like MPC beats/Maschine/Komplete is of no practical use. Is there such a universal keyboard out there?
So I've decided to go with a synth instead of the Teisco guitar I found. Now my question is do I buy a synth or a midi keyboard? From what I can tell I can do more with a midi keyboard, especially in terms of sounds, but they seem better for music production rather than just playing which is what I would be doing.
What do you guys think?
I have this idea for a midi keyboard that basically would be a hardware version of something like scaler 2. You can assign a scale to the keyboard so the scale will only play on the white keys but there would also be a choice to play in chromatic mode. Does this exist midi keyboard exist? Is it possible for it to be made? Please help!!
I just want a great keyboard with pitch and mod wheels, and a way to very easily and quickly switch between midi channels, all in a decent designed package, that's it. Is that too much to ask for? Apparently.
