Neidpath Castle, Peebles, the Scottish Borders. It was attacked during Oliver Cromwell's invasion of Scotland in 1650 and suffered artillery damage to its eastern side.
Very lucky find. A tractor had been on the beach (scotland) pushing all the sea weed and drift wood into a massive pile. I went for a look and pulled this out. It's very near volcanic rock that a castle stands on and in the rock there are small pieces of the same stuff. Any ideas? v.redd.it/bkgw2urujdy21

Finally visited Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle after living in Scotland for a year and a half.
Keiss, Scotland. Placed on a precipitous cliff, this castle was built (possibly) over the site of an older fortress in the 16th-17th century. I'll post more in the comments (including a reconstruction).
Gylen, Scotland. Placed strategically on the tip of a promontory, this castle was built in 1582 by the Clan MacDougall on the island of Kerrera off the coast of Scotland. It was only occupied for a relatively short period of time before being besieged and burned. I'll post more in the comments.

Dhubhairt (Duart), Scotland. Located on the gorgeous Isle of Mull just off the coast of Scotland, this 13th century castle was the seat of Clan Maclean. The small castle survived a siege by Clan Campbell in 1647. I'll post more in the comments.

Historic Scotland keeps receiving inquiries from hikers about a mysterious castle ruin that has signs posted around it warning of structural integrity issues. Bizarrely, such a large ruin doesn't appear on any maps. A task force is assembled to learn more about the ruin. Hilarity ensues.
