A list of puns related to "List of ancient monuments in Rome"
because after Constantine/Diocletian , the Romans interest in Rome seems to decline, preferring Constantinople and even a provincial city like Ravenna... whyy?
The Pantheon and Colloseum are impressive, but don't really convey a coherent grand design in their current contexts. Would ancient Rome have wowed us with the scale of it's designs and buildings? Or were the impressive buildings generally stands alone works surrounded by smaller, less grand structures?
Were the buildings set off from other things, the way the Jefferson or Lincoln memorials are the the US?
Iโm Dr Adrastos Omissi and Iโm a lecturer in Ancient History at the University of Glasgow, UK. My work focuses on civil war, court culture, and the control of memory in the late Roman period (3rd-5th centuries AD). I have a book, โEmperors and Usurpers in the Later Roman Empireโ. I write a lot about panegyric (formal speeches of praise to emperors and senior political figures) and how those speeches shaped both contemporary politics and later history. Iโve also written about the destruction of statues and the control of memory in political contexts. I teach Roman history from the 3rd century BC to the 5th AD, including a module on warfare in the ancient world. Iโm also really interested in language and language history (my first ever journal publication provided the definitive etymology for the โliberty cap mushroomโ). Looking forward to your questions โ Ask Me Anything!
Poisons I, II, and III would all kill you with varying degrees of pain.
However, Poison IV would just make you really itchy.
