A list of puns related to "List of The Settlers of Catan products"
So first of all, I should say that I am not new to board games, exactly. I have played chess since I was a small child and of course I have played other games such as checkers, connect four, battleship, etc. as well. However with the exception of chess I always tended to think of board games as something for kids. I only recently realized how wrong I am, and now I am so excited to leap into this amazing hobby!
It all started when I was at Target a few months ago, looking for a birthday present for my cousin (we'll call him Adam). Adam was turning 11 so I thought a board game might be an appropriate gift so I went over to the toys section. I was just about to pick up a copy of this fancy deluxe version of Battleship I had never seen before, when I noticed a different game sitting next to it. The name of the game was "The Settlers of Catan." This game was on sale for cheaper than Battleship so without even looking at the back of the box, I threw it in my cart and paid for it. A board game is a board game, right?
Fast forward to the next week: Crazy story but basically my cousin ends up getting hit by a car the day before his birthday party and goes into a coma. So, needless to say, birthday party canceled. Everyone's very sad and obviously I'm not even thinking about "The Settlers of Catan" at all. It sits untouched on a shelf next to my shoe rack until like six weeks later. By this point Adam has actually died, and it's the day after his funeral. I notice the board game I never got to give him sitting there by my shoe rack. I pick it up. I look at the back of the box. I decide a nice way to honor Adam's memory would be to have some people over to play this game that I was going to give to him.
So I call up a couple of my friends and my girlfriend comes over and we end up playing this game. I don't know if any of you have heard of this game before so I will try to explain it very quickly (going from memory, sorry if I get anything wrong): Basically in "The Settlers of Catan" you play a farmer or something and you are trying to build roads, cities, and settlements to get points. You build these things by "cashing in" your "crops" which can be such things as brick and wood and rocks and wheat, etc. Everything you build is worth points, and first person to get 10 points wins. There is also a robber. The "board" on which you play can be different every time, which is just so unique and not something I had ever seen before! Imagine if the board were different

Does anyone know of instructions for this project or do I just need to open the game and hand copy each piece in the appropriately colored felt?

Settler of Catan Card Game and Catan The Duel. 2 games compatible to the base but since there has been an evolution between the 2, and that it is for only 2 players, I will have to modify the game accordingly. Why? To make it a game for 4 players. Wish me good luck!

... keep reading on reddit β‘I was visiting my parents over the weekend and decided to bring Settlers of Catan with me.
This is a game that I had always tried to learn but no matter how many "let's plays" I watched it was lost on me. I grabbed the digital version over the holidays when it was on sale, tore through the tutorial and absolutely love it. I took a gamble and got the base set and thought I'd open it up the very first time for my family.
First, they had a very nice square table with a Lazy Susan in the middle that fit the board perfectly. I think not having to reach too far for anything was a major plus for their first experience.
I tried not to overwhelm them with the rules in the beginning. When my father asked "Why isn't there a '7' on the board" I said "I'll tell you when to worry about that." I didn't mention the ports on the shore until someone made their way out that way. It took a few turns, but eventually my parents started getting the hang of things. I remember sometime mid-game asking anyone to trade wool for anything I had. My dad said "I'm no help there." I told him I know for a fact he has several sheep. "Yeah," he said, "didn't say I never had them."
About 3/4 into the game, I took note of the way my mother had some cards in front of her. She had the longest road (which she stole from me) and I knew she had one VP card (she had asked me how to use it) and there was another on top of that. Okay, so Longest Road, 2 VP cards, that's 4. Then the one, two... five settlements! Wait, what?
I tried to keep that close to my chest. I was relieved when my dad stole the longest road card, only for mom to get it back. My wife, getting terrible dice rolls, agreed to a trade with my mom that gave my wife some much needed resources but the one that my mother needed more than anything. She turned in two cards. "I'm going to build another road," she said. "And then I'm going to put another house... settlement? This little thing."
I sorted the cards. She put the settlement down, verifying that she could put it where she wanted. She was still so unsure of the rules. I said "that's fine". She put it on the board. I sighed. "So, guys, mom just won." She was surprised. I asked to see the two cards she had by her. Sure enough, 2 VP points. She was so happy.
Everyone had a great time, and my parents asked that the next time we visit we bring the game so we can all play again.
I regret not playing this game any sooner, but my first experience with this game and my family wen
