I just finished season 5 at Laney College and wanted to know if Coach Josh Ramo’s attitude toward Rejzohn Wright was infuriating to anyone else? There were multiple clips of Ramos scolding Wright for not playing after Wright’s high-ankle sprain, which makes zero sense to me. To make matters worse, Ramos seemed to be purposefully sabotaging Wright’s recruitment (e.g. when he told Wright that he’d missed a call from Texas but wouldn’t call back until Wright played). As a coach, Ramos should be smart enough to understand that Wright’s attempt to play on a sprained ankle could impact his future athletic career—JUCO was not Wright’s end goal.
I’m glad that it seems to have worked out for Wright in the end, but the way Ramos treated him honestly disgusted me. Coaches are supposed to be advocates for their athletes, especially at the JUCO level. They shouldn’t be constantly heckling their athletes and pressuring them to play on an injury. Just bad coaching.
