A list of puns related to "Landing flare"
I have this memory about a movie (?) about an Apollo-like Moon landing that ended in failure and death of astronauts because of an unexpected solar flare. The solar flare killed one or more astronaut with radiation poisoning. I remember it because it was a realistic hazard that the space programs took their chances on and could have, but fortunately did not, happen. By the way, this movie might have featured an unknown Country and Western song in the context of its climax. I have tried searching, including Wikipedia ("Moon in film"), for its name without any success.
It only lets me underan the runway with a noisy and hard landing, is there a reason for this? it's also wildy unpredictable in APPR mode and often crashes itself into buildings
Hey all,
Iβm a one-week post solo pilot training at a Class C airport with 150β runways. Iβve always struggled with crosswind landings, and while I seem to get away with landing left/right of the centerline at my airport, recently on my first XC we had a 90 degree crosswind and my CFI had to save my butt several times with me drifting during the flare on the more βnormalβ 75β runway.
I recorded the landing and watched it back later. Hereβs what I noticed (For what itβs worth, Iβm training in a SR20):
On final approach, crabbing into the wind and maintaining centerline
Short final, still crabbing. Since Iβm crabbing, my ailerons are mostly flat with occasional turns to correct my crab angle.
As I cross threshold and reduce power to idle, I kick in some rudder to align with the centerline & begin my roundout
For a brief, blissful moment, Iβm flaring down the centerline happily without doing any crosswind correction
Wind pushes me to the side and I land shortly thereafter.
I understand the whole ailerons to keep plane with centerline & rudder to align, but I seem to really struggle doing it in practice, especially when it becomes more prominent during the final roundout/flare portion of my landing.
I sent my CFI an email & plan to spend our next lesson doing pattern work really focusing on this, but I wanted to reach out to you all for advice too β What are some good mentalities/exercises I can do to have this process click?
To be specific (if needed) the zibo mod.
Last night while doing pattern work the ELT activated during the landing flare of my second landing. I reset it and all seemed fine. I did another circuit and the same thing happened during the flare. I called it a night after that.
I've heard of ELTs engaging during a hard landing but I hadn't even touched down yet. Anyone have an idea of what might be the cause? This is an old 1965 C172F model.
I came across this post in /r/aviationmaintenance and I've never heard of these or seen them before. My google-fu is coming up short and is just coming up with night time landing tips mostly. I've been in a rabbit hole for about an hour trying to dig something up.
Anyone here know anything about this, uhhh "system", if that's even the verbiage?
I just completed my first 2 solo flights and both times I flared too early. It is difficult for me to judge correctly how high I am. I could really use some advice on how I can more accurately use my brakes to slow my ground speed and have a more accurate landing.
Launch it away from buildings. For god's sake
Probably been mentioned already here or in the main sub, but a quick CTRL-F search didn't show anything. I've seen this several times when in game and watching streams. In Duos we found 2 guys on the same team that still had the flare attached hiding in a building. Made for an easy grenade. ;)
Does anyone know if there's a specific way to trigger it to bug out? Like clipping / bouncing off a structure on the way down or something? I want to avoid it happening since it's literally a big red flare advertising your presence. Also wondering, do you hear the flare audio the whole time it's attached to you after landing? I know you can hear it on other people, but aside from a buddy telling you I'm not sure how else to tell if you have the bug... emote maybe?
There is a bug in blackout where the new ankle flare sometimes stays active after you land. It's a dead giveaway on your position/location. Dunno if it's been posted, but this is a FYI.
as the title says
Over the past month or so I've noticed that, when taking off or landing, the plane pitches up for a few seconds regardless of where the cursor is. This is on every map, both with and without flaps.
Taking off isn't affected that much, but it's a real problem when landing. In a bomber, where you might need every inch of runway, you'll pitch up just before the wheels hit the dirt, then come back down for a hard landing. You'll then bounce along and not make sustained contact until you're past the halfway mark. This is also a problem in a damaged fighter. It's really frustrating when you nurse a plane back home, only to have it decide to pull up and come down hard on its side, damaging it further to where it becomes irreparable.
Does anyone else have this issue? Is there some option that can be toggled to prevent this? Is this a Deep State conspiracy to make me spend more on repairs?
Edit: I search off and on for a few hours, and have found no mention of this elsewhere.
