My 5 Questions:
Edit - SUCCESS!!! 18 Nov 7pm Dr Karl Kruszelnicki Cheers Doctor Karl.
Dr Karl is an Australian National living treasure (literally) and is famous for spreading a love of science throughout Australia and in particular to Australian youth through his many books and his infamous call in segment on youth radio station [Triple J] (http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/people/dr_karl.htm), as well as throughout the UK on BBC Radio 5.
Dr Karl holds Bachelor of Science in Physics and Mathematics, Master of Science (Qualifying) in Astrophysics, Master of Biomedical Engineering and Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.
In a nutshell if Dr Karl doesn't know it then something is very wrong.
Questions I would pose to Dr Karl:
You're a reservoir of scientific fact that gets tested all the time what idea or fact still stumps you?
What fact or piece of information amazes you?
When and how did you decide to focus on interpreting science for younger people?
What do other scientists that you meet think of your "rock star" status?
What will be the most exciting discovery in the next ten years?
Edit The man himself seems keen, however the word as RandomPratt has mentioned is that he's finishing his latest book up at the moment. I've fired off a request to his assistant through Reddit to see when we could book him in.
For those of you who don't know who Dr Karl is (I'm not sure how famous he is outside Australia), he is the Julius Sumner Miller Fellow of the University of Sydney, he hosts a couple of hours a week of science-based talkback radio (along with frequent television appearances), has written dozens of books on science (all in layman's language - they're primarily aimed at kids/young adults - though I own a bunch of them!) and even answers fan's science-y questions on Twitter (through which I've learned he's on his way back from the Antarctic).
He's also won an Ig Nobel prize for his groundbreaking work into belly button lint, and holds degrees in Physics and Maths, Biomedical Engineering, Medicine and Surgery.
I'm sure I'm not the only redditor that could think of a few questions for this man, either about him, or science in general!
Dr Karl is also very well known in Australia - there must be a redditor out there who has a line of contact with him. If he can, I'm fairly confident he'll participate!

Doctor Karl - Who is your scientific hero? Why? | Scientific hero? Why? |
Richard Feynman. He said - Stick to the facts, ignore opinions. Nature doesn't lie. | |
What, in your opinion, are the biggest challenges science and science education are currently facing in Australia? | Lack of respect for the the Concept of Education > lack of funding. |
Is there any preparation/research involved in your podcasts/radio show, | 1) The reading of $10,000 of scientific/medical/etc literature per year 2) Formalising this fuzzy information inside brain into stories (radio, net, books, etc) 3) Repeat for one third of a century. |
Do you smoke weed? Do you think it will be decriminalized or legalized for medical use in Australia? | NSW has just REJECTED the medical use of marijuana for six very specific conditions (terminal cancer, loss of appetite due to chemotherapy, etc). The NSW Govt WRONGLY claimed that the medical data was against the efficacy of marijuana in these six very specific conditions. One thing I learnt as a doctor - we currently all have to die, what matters is that you have a Good Death. Why are we denying these people in pain the opportunity for a Good Death? NSW Govt - please reconsider. |
Is there anything you have wanted to study, but haven't had the opportunity? | Geology, metallurgy, so much. |
Whilst your partner was pregnant, did you do any experiments on her? How did she take it? | Nope. |
How do you relax? | Family, exercise, just "be" with whatever's happening around me and go with the flow. |

Go post NSFW jokes somewhere else. If I can't tell my kids this joke, then it is not a DAD JOKE.
If you feel it's appropriate to share NSFW jokes with your kids, that's on you. But a real, true dad joke should work for anyone's kid.
Mods... If you exist... Please, stop this madness. Rule #6 should simply not allow NSFW or (wtf) NSFL tags. Also, remember that MINORS browse this subreddit too? Why put that in rule #6, then allow NSFW???
Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.
Thank you,
A Dad.

I am currently in the hospital. I had a back operation yesterday. The surgical nurse came in my room and started asking questions about my back. She asked me if I had any falls during the last year. I responded just one. It was after summer.
She laughed and said in 20 years of doing this she never was told that joke.

Dr Karl is also very well known in Australia - there must be a redditor out there who has a line of contact with him. This is not the first time I've suggested this. I understand Dr Karl is in the middle of writing more books, television programs and radio shows - but if any one can get a hold of him it would be nice to know if he wants to participate here. The indication I got from JJJ employees (and others) last time I suggested this IAMA is that he would be interested.
Dr Karl, your audience awaits!
