A list of puns related to "Jole Blon"
Harry Choates is not very well known today but back in the 1940s he was the shit in Texas and Louisiana! Choates is known as the godfather of Cajun music but I think he did a lot of Texas music as well. He was born in Louisiana, raised in Port Arthur Texas, sang in French and English, and loved Texas Swing. In fact, in merged Cajun music, Texas Swing, blues, jazz and Tejano in his live shows, truly playing Texas music.
The band I'm in is working on a tribute album to Mr. Choates so we took a trip up to Port Arthur yesterday to wish Harry Choates a happy birthday! Harry was born on December 26, 1922.
Here's to you Harry! https://youtu.be/_61TG78UxEQ
(Also, Harry Choates was known to pull practical jokes on his bandmates. We are hoping he was just messing with us and having a laugh at the end of the video!)
Hi
I'm trying to understand a few words in this version of 'Jole Blon'
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ra3P9aFHQvE
It's an old traditional song, of course. I tried listening to other versions (like Harry Choates) but there seems to be a lot of variation in the lyrics, and this version by the Flatlanders (Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Joe Ely, Butch Hancock) is maybe unique. There are words in the first part of the song that I just can't figure out.
My guess is the mystery words are French or Cajun French, or maybe just the singer's attempt to mimic some such words.
Any help appreciated! I posted the lyrics below w/ "?????" for the mystery words.
>Jole Blon, Louisiana / >On the bayou in the moonlight / >?????, rice and gravy, Jambalaya, file gumbo / >You're my sweet one, my ?????, Jole Blon
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
