TIL that the plot of the 2019 film "Joker" was inspired by the real life 1984 NYC Subway shooting. The depiction of the Joker is partially based on Bernard Goetz, who shot and wounded 4-teenagers after being allegedly harassed for money.

This is my first ever reddit post, I was just curious to know what you all thought of the 2019 Joker movie with Joaquin Phoenix.
Did the movie labour the point about mental illness, did it nail it?
Very curious to get some thoughts on it, I know the movie's a couple of years old, just re-watching now. Looking at it from the perspective of someone with bp1, I can relate to the main character in that he struggles to do his part and just continually get's shat on and finally snaps it.
Happy to report I'm not feeling the way he was right now haha, anyway let me know what you thought.

Do you think a grounded batman universe based on the 2019 film Joker can work?
Like the title said, do you think a film series revolving around the 2019 Joker can work? Like Bruce Wayne never became Batman but had a succesful career (maybe a lawyer, a businessman, or a psychologist) . Maybe Bruce can still be a psychopathic vigilante sort of American psycho type theme, I just think the 2019 Joker still have a lot of unexplored plot points. And with the Batman comics backing up the storyline, it could have endless possibilities.

The subway map that we catch a glimpse of in this scene in Joker (2019) is a subway version of a real map the filmmakers made of city the film is set in. This map gave them a clearer idea of how Arthur would travel throughout the city via subway/bus etc.

Both Joker and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker have slowly been gaining on Toy Story 4. It looked like neither film would pass Toy Story 4, but now Joker has just managed to edge past it.
As for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, it will pass both films in March.
