A list of puns related to "Jim Backus"
I need help finding what years a program aired. The poster here talks about "The Jim Backus Show"...a daytime radio program. Based on the years that KSWI in Omaha/Council Bluffs was around and the years that Betty Ann Grove and The Honeydreamers were active, I'm pretty sure it was in the 1950's, but not exactly sure. I'm not having any luck finding the show on the internet. Any ideas? (BTW my Dad is the Walt Gibbs featured on the poster--I know...a real face for radio!) http://imgur.com/Ey2eoK6
It's easy to overlook given how "World" can basically be called "Cameos: The Motion Picture" given the staggering number of comedic actors showing up for the smallest roles (Jerry Lewis, for example, only appears to run over Spencer Tracy's hat). But the Three Stooges' five second wordless cameo as firemen is memorable because it's such a brilliant joke in the context of the film and the scene they're in. Mickey Rooney and Buddy Hackett are attempting to land a plane they've chartered after drunk pilot Jim Backus passes out, the airfield is chaos, Carl Reiner and Jesse White are up on the control tower trying to talk them down, cops and emergency personnel are running around in a panic...and then we see Moe, Larry and Curly Joe standing there stone-faced in fireman garb, patiently waiting. Brilliant and hysterical for two reasons:
The Stooges are the sanest people here? You're fucked.
The Stooges are the emergency first responders? You're DOUBLY fucked.
What a great cameo and for only a few seconds.
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π

Hi! really weird suggestion today - - - does anyone have any suggestions for 50s-60s comedy music that mixes music and weird skits and sound effects? Not looking for straight stand-up or straight "funny" music, looking more for more these multi-media stuff. Some examples of stuff that's just like what i'm hoping to find are: "Delicious (The Laughing Song)" by Jim Backus, "Loretta's Soaperette" by Spike Jones, "The Party" by Godley & Creme, "Big Shot" by the Bonzo Dog Band, etc.
Heard they've been doing some shady business.
but then I remembered it was ground this morning.
Edit: Thank you guys for the awards, they're much nicer than the cardboard sleeve I've been using and reassures me that my jokes aren't stale
Edit 2: I have already been made aware that Men In Black 3 has told a version of this joke before. If the joke is not new to you, please enjoy any of the single origin puns in the comments
