Hi all!
I've been noticing that this sub has so. much. bad. news. that I suppose a few of you might feel refreshed by some practical steps towards resilience in our rapidly changing world. I am a small organic farmer on the West Coast (literally, on the coast) of the US with a background in permaculture design. The growing climate where I live might be different from where you live. However, there are some practical tips that *any* gardener, regardless of growing zone, can implement successfully.
Right out the gates, one thing I cannot stress enough as we continue to degrade soils and ecosystems and are running out of fossil fuels is to aim for no-till food production. (Tilling = ploughing). So then what? Your new best friend is gonna be MULCH. Mulch can mean many things. It can mean straw. It can mean compost. It can mean wood chips. It can mean leaves. It can mean plastic. (Note- Please do not use plastic...) But it is going to cover the soil. This will help trap moisture (less watering), improve soil structure (not destroying the homes of millions of soil organisms by ploughing), less weeding! (dreamy), and more.. Regenerative soil stewardship is an important step forward.
The other most important thing to note is that planting things that do not need to be replanted every year (aka "perennial**"** plants - think Rhubarb or blueberries) are FAR less work than something that needs to be replanted every year, or multiple times a year (aka "annual" plants - think lettuce). Designing perennial systems of food production that mimic the habits of natural forests are far less resource intensive in every way, and can produce food without much work if your passions lie elsewhere. These systems are called "food forests".
Next, I am going to introduce you all to maybe one of the most pleasant human beings to watch on all of YouTube. He is a legend in intensive no-dig market gardening. His name is Charles Dowding. Binge his videos. You will learn a lot about vegetable production, and probably feel more relaxed afterward. The Bob Ross of gardening.
This post is not going to be a "how-to", per se. More a launching pad for all of you to go out into the depths of YouTube in order to see other people are who are doing badass things with food production. Find something that lights you up - and then learn the how-to's from there.
If you'd like

There have been rumors of a possible expansion, so let’s imagine it does happen, but the NBA decides to only add one new team to the league (sorry Vegas), bringing back the beloved Seattle Supersonics. The Sonics are back babbyyyyyyyy!
Now the Sonics need to build their team from ground up, starting with the expansion draft, and following it with signing players in the off-season.
Here are some simplified terms of the expansion draft:
Atlanta Hawks:
Protected:
Unprotected (Salary this year, Years left on the contract)
LIKELY Desmond Bane (via the 2020 first-round pick that we traded for Dennis Schröder )
www.silverscreenandroll.com/platform/amp/2020/10/24/21531849/2020-nba-draft-desmond-bane-interviewed-with-lakers-mutual-interest
Danny Green (also for Dennis Schröder, who we later let go and refused to package in a sign & trade, in part, due to luxury tax concerns, post-Russ trade)
JaVale McGee + the 2026 second-round pick (for Marc Gasol, who we later let go, in part, due to luxury tax concerns, post-Russ trade)
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
Kyle Kuzma
Montrezl Harrell
The 2021 first-round pick (that could have been Bones Hyland, Cam Thomas, etc.)
Indirectly (due to luxury tax concerns, post-Russ trade) Alex Caruso
Marc Gasol + the 2024 second-round pick
So.. yeah. The Lakers traded Desmond Bane, Danny Green, JaVale McGee, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell, Alex Caruso, two second-round picks and a first-round pick for Russell Westbrook.
This, in addition to turning down smaller deals for, among others: Marcus Morris, Kyle Lowry, Buddy Hield and DeMar DeRozan.
Rob Pelinka needs to be fired.

And what better way to increase our chances than to maximize our games played, and focus on categories we believe will be a close call based on the strengths and weaknesses of our team compared to our next week's opponent's team. Streaming allows us to do just that.
As always, I have taken a look ahead at the NBA schedule for next week, and here are the fantasy basketball streamers for Week 13.

... keep reading on reddit ➡NFL Films is arguably one of the greatest documentary companies around, even if they've specialized solely on professional football.
While they have done some "out of pocket" stuff before, there's likely some areas they won't ever cover.
What famous pieces of NFL History would you wish NFL Films would produce a documentary on.
I'll go first: In depth documentary on JaMarcus Russell's short lived NFL career with interviews of the handlers he likely brought to their breaking point. Also an interview with his Lean dealer because that shit would be hilarious.
With the looming retirement of a few players this offseason, and the fact a lot of this status can change soon, I wanted to go though and find active players that were on each team's Super Bowl winning season.
Key:
(IR) - On Injury Reserve that season
(PS) - Were a practice squad player that season
Italics - Did not play for the team continuously (left and came back)
2005 Pittsburgh Steelers - 1 remaining player: Ben Roethlisberger
2008 Pittsburgh Steelers - 1 remaining player: Ben Roethlisberger
The Steelers' two victories are the longest you can go back and still find an active player still with the Steelers from these teams. Big Ben's time in the NFL appears to be coming to an end, but for now he is the one link left for the two Steeler's wins in the 2000's.
2009 New Orleans Saints - 1 remaining player: Malcolm Jenkins
Won in his rookie year, Jenkins played with the Saints until 2013, before leaving to the Eagles where he also won a ring. He returned in 2020 and after Bree's retirement, is the only remaining player from this team.
2010 Green Bay Packers - 2 remaining players: Aaron Rodgers, Mason Crosby
2012 Baltimore Ravens - 6 remaining players: Pernell McPhee, Josh Bynes, Jimmy Smith, Justin Tucker, Sam Koch, Anthony Levine (IR)
The Ravens have a shocking six players left from their 2012 season left, a tie with the 2014 Patriots but with an even longer time frame. Two players (Bynes and McPhee) did leave afterwards, but both returned in 2019 (Bynes left AGAIN and was brought back in 2021). Morgan Cox, who left in the offseason before the 2021 season was also on this team.
2013 Seattle Seahawks - 3 remaining players: Russel Wilson, Bobby Wagner, Benson Mayowa
Mayowa played only one year in Seattle before leaving, playing for a few other teams before returning in 2020.
2014 New England Patriots - 6 remaining players: Brandon Bolden, James White, Matthew Slater, Jamie Collins, Dont'a Hightower, Devin McCourty
Jamie Collins is unlucky, and missed two of the three Super Bowls the Patriots won last decade. Bolden also missed one, leaving to the Dolphins for one single year before returning in 2019, missing the 2018 season's Super Bowl win.
2015 Denver Broncos - 1 remaining player: Brandon McManus
This one is just kind of sad... the 2015 Broncos only have one player left from their Super Bowl run. Von Miller was on

So clearly this sub is at DEFCON 2 with this team. This season has not been a great start to this new era of Celtics basketball. In the beginning stretch of the season, we could’ve blamed injuries or adjustments to the new coach/team. However, as the season goes on, the same issues persist, and in these last two games we had a fully healthy squad and were beaten by two meh teams.
To me, there are 3 core issues with this team, not all of which can be solved immediately
Best PNR Ball Handler | Year | Percentile | Win % |
---|---|---|---|
Thomas | 2016-2017 | 94.1 | .646 |
Irving | 2017-2018 | 96.2 | .671 |
Irving | 2018-2019 | 85.7 | .598 |
Walker | 2019-2020 | 92.9 | .667 |
Tatum | 2021-2022 | 68.2 | .462 |
As you can see, there is a massive dropoff from when we were a good team (2016-2020) to now. Tatum has been getting better this year, but Brown has been bad at creating for others. Both lack the silky ball-handling chops that veteran wings like Jimmy Butler, Paul George, and even Demar Derozan have developed over the course of their careers. Tatum has a good feel for the game so I think he’ll get there eventually. Brown, on the other hand, I’m not so confident about. He’s my favorite player, but at this point it seems more likely that his best role is premium Klay Thompson with more athleticism rather than someone that can be a true #1 option/offensive creator.
The more I watch this season, the more I realize why the Kemba Walker signing in 2019 was important. You simply need high-level ball handlers and shot creators to sustain a good offense in the NBA, even if it costs you a little on the defensive end. Kemba Walker was pretty good, All-Star starter even, until nagging injuries reduced him to a shell of his former self.
Every elite team in the l

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do you remember the last time Bill Simmons wrote a wild-card playoff column? It was right after the 2017 season. He went 0-4 against the spread (2-2 straight up, although I'm told by the man himself that straight up doesn't mean anything), and we all had a grand old time watching a video called "Ram It" that appears to have been removed from YouTube.
In case you need a reminder of how long ago the 2018 playoffs were, here were the quarterbacks playing that week: Matt Ryan (run it back again with Matt in 2022, Atlanta!), Drew Brees (not quite a cadaver back then), Alex Smith (backed up by rookie Mahomes, offering hope to Trey Lances everywhere), Jared Goff (McVay's debut season), Marcus Mariota (Tannehill was with Adam Gase in Miami), Tyrod Taylor (who later got benched for Josh Allen -- as it turned out, not because of racism), Blake Bortles (who has had 5 stints, 0 starts, and innumerable Pardon My Take appearances in the past 3 seasons), and Cam Newton (who half of the Panthers fan base still thinks is the guy to lead them to the Super Bowl). By the way, Nick Foles and Case Keenum were poised to match up in the NFC Championship (or, as Bill would say, "Round 3") a couple weeks later. Suffice to say that times have changed.
So, I wanted to offer this mailbag to you as a sort of crude imitation of the able-fingered man we once knew (I hope, for the Sports Gal's sake, that he's still able to satisfy her in other ways). These are real tweets from actual tweeters, but the Bill impression is preposterously fake. Despite that, let's have some fun, make some picks, and argue in the comments section about what we expect this weekend.
I think we had spent so much time talking up the tie (and in that moment hearing about the tie) that by then we, as a football watching society, had convinced ourselves they were Definitely Doing The Tie.
THE CHARGERS TOOK THE TIMEOUT AND THAT BROKE THE TRUST BETWEEN THE TWO IT’S CLASSIC PRISONER’S DILEMMA
Let's talk about the almost-tie. I think the end of that game has the potential to become this generation's JFK assassination. It's an event that offe
... keep reading on reddit ➡Hello! So I've had experiences with 3 different DMS. Each and everyone seems to ban anything that's not PHB. Their reasons vary. This is annoying to be personally because my favorite subclasses/classes are things like:
Artificer
Circle of Shephard Druid
Beastmaster Ranger(With the Tashas Primal Companion)
All of these are not in PHB. Now to go into what they ban or don't ban individually as to reasons why if applicable.
First DM:
All subclasses and or classes are banned outside of PHB.
Reason: DM feels that any classes outside of PHB are not properly balanced and have the potential to ruin the game.
Spells outside of PHB are NOT banned but have to be approved by the DM.
Class options(for example primal companion) have to be approved by the DM.
Reason: This apparently was hard to approve. However it was explained that in the example primal companion is essentially the errata for the default companion as this change made Beastmaster actually playable.
Second DM:
All subclasses and or classes are banned outside of PHB.
Reason: It's too confusing.
Spells outside of PHB are banned.
Reason: Same reason as above.
Class options(for example primal companion) are banned.
Reason: Same reason as above.
Third DM:
All subclasses and or classes are banned outside of PHB.
Reason: It's too confusing and DM feels that any classes outside of PHB are not properly balanced and have the potential to ruin the game.
Spells outside of PHB are NOT banned but have to be approved by the DM.
Class options(for example primal companion N/A\
So overall all three DMS I've played with ban any and all subclasses outside of PHB. All with roughly the same reasons. A because they feel they are not balanced correctly. B because its too confusing, which I don't really understand. Spells are generally allowed with no issue. and Class options are 50/50.
Do you all agree with this idea? What do you usually ban? Do you think the classes/subclasses outside of PHB are not balanced correctly?
Hey guys!
Sorry for any delay on this, was vacationing the past week so I was off the grid when all these cards came out. A brief overview, we have a few great cards, a few good ones, a new budget beast TE that will release today, and a FB that you'll never take out of your lineup.

Hi r/detroitlions, about a month ago I made this post reviewing the Lions’ draft picks over the last 20 years. I got some fantastic feedback and suggestions from all of you and as a result I’ve updated my analysis. Here are a few of the changes that I made:
The analysis summary is below, but before getting into it here is a reminder of the logic used to grade draft picks:

We're about halfway into the season and I hope your fantasy NBA teams are doing well, despite the challenges this season has put in front of us.
In case you found yourself struggling, don't be discouraged but look to take advantage of the situation. Streaming is more powerful than ever with all the absences and new guys getting a ton of minutes. So if you've got a guy at the back end of your roster not living up to your standards, don't hold on too tight. A streaming spot or two could be worth a lot more.
Here are the fantasy basketball streamers for Week 12.

NBA is a star-driven league. You have your LeBrons, your Kobes, your Duncans and your Jordans. You can't win without them. In fact, it has been said that you can’t win an NBA title without having one of the top 10 players in the league. Generational players have always been the base of a perennial contender. Or a contender generally. There have been teams constructed around non-superstars, such as the Horford-Millsap-Korver Hawks, or the DeRozan-Lowry Raptors, but what these teams share is that they ultimately always ended up short.
So, at first, I asked myself if it was possible to make a contender out of players who aren’t among the best two players on their team. It turns out that the answer to that question is an easy yes. You still have the likes of Kyrie, Klay (or Draymond), Jrue, Tobias (or Simmons), Ayton, Westbrook, Capela, etc. either starting or coming off the bench. So, if you made a 12-men roster out of these, the sheer number of all-stars would ultimately be the difference maker.
Therefore, I decided to take this thought experiment up a notch and make it more challenging. I decided to see what the best iteration of a team made of players that aren’t the first, the second, nor the third best player on their current team is. I asked myself if it was possible to make a contender out of players who are not in the top 3 players on their own teams.
Before I propose a team, let me list the best players eligible for this experiment. The best 3 players on each team are in brackets, and, in many cases, it wasn’t really clear who would be considered the 3rd and who the 4th best player, which makes the experiment a bit more random, but bear with me:
Atlanta: (Trae, Collins, Capela): Kevin Huerter, Cam Reddish, Bogdan Bogdanovic
Boston: (Tatum, Brown, Horford): Marcus Smart, Dennis Schroder, Robert Williams
Brooklyn: (KD, Harden, Kyrie): Joe Harris, Patty Mills, LaMarcus Aldridge
Charlotte: (LaMelo, Hayward, Bridges): Terry Rozier, Kelly Oubre, PJ Washington
Chicago: (LaVine, DeRozan, Vucevic): Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso
Cleveland: (Garland, Allen, Mobley): Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, Kevin Love
Dallas: (Doncic, Porzingis, Brunson): Tim Hardaway Jr
Denver: (Jokic, Murray, Gordon): Will Barton, Monte Morris
Detroit: (Cade, Jerami, Bey): Isiah Stewart
GSW: (Steph, Draymond, Klay): Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole
Houston: (Wall, Wood, Kevin Porter Jr.): Eric Gordon, Jae’Sean Tate, Alperen Sengun

FAQ
How are players ranked?
Stats are ranked SYSTEMATICALLY based on 9cat H2H performance.
Why is my player not on the list?
First, this does not mean your player performed poorly, it just means there were other players with more BALANCED performance. In 9cat, efficiency and scarcity matters a lot.
🍻 Cheers, hoopdx

This week is pretty tough to predict when it comes to streaming. Thursday is definitely the primary target with just four games played, followed by Saturday with six. We will be focusing on players from teams playing on both of these days. The thing is, all these teams play just three times this week (although they all have their last game on Saturday so you can still get a four-game week if you drop them for another player who plays on Sunday).
All other days have between seven and ten games played and it's pretty much anyone's guess which fantasy teams will need help with their starters on which days. Not to mention Covid-19 implications - my head would explode if I tried to factor this one in as well.
