A list of puns related to "International Marxist Tendency"
This is the US branch website https://socialistrevolution.org/
As a brief backstory I recently moved to a new state and wanted to get involved with organizations that do mutual aid in the area because aside from reading theory thereβs not much I can do personally to increase class consciousness outside of mutual aid. I came into contact with a βsocialist groupβ that has a chapter near where I live so I decided to reach out and set up a meeting. I met with two of these members with no prior interaction or reading on what their organization is about.
I met up with one member and began basic introductions. The conversation started with a brief description into what the group does on a monthly basis and then a part of that was discussing how I got into socialist theory and why I wanted to join their group. At one point I brought up China as an interest and how a recent visit pushed me towards learning more about socialism in general. This member then decided to share his and more importantly the IMTβs perspective on China. The gist of his explanation was that Chinaβs development towards socialism is being ruined by a massive bureaucracy like with the USSR and the introduction of capitalism in China and basically China is going down the same road as the USSR which is why China is now a capitalist country. The number of times he used capitalist to describe both the USSR and China became so confusing that I had to hold back a laugh multiple times. He then continued to talk about the Tianβanβmem square protests and the ones in Hong Kong to show that the CPC is losing control and is no longer a party for the people. At this point I knew there was something off because I get that socialists have different views on China but supporting color revolutions is unheard of in my experience.
I went on to ask him and his other member now present at our little meeting what they have read and where all these sources come from on China and other issues. Combined they havenβt read much, not anything by Mao, and especially not a single contemporary piece on China. Iβm not saying everyone has to read every piece of theory out there but if youβre going to put yourself out as a leader of a socialist group without having read the basics is a bit concerning. They rely on publications that they donβt even write that donβt even have sources included. Theyβre opinion pieces coming from people who donβt seem to live in the same universe as the China that Iβve been studying for years.
At this point Iβm not even sure if I should take the time to at
... keep reading on reddit β‘Basically, I'm a DSA member and do some local organizing. One of the main dudes in my DSA chapter sent me a private message outside of our text-messaging group chat asking me to join his International Marxist Tendency discord. He just asked me to have a video call about the group with quote "the senior member of our (IMT) chapter". I googled the group and apparently, they are Trotskyist and have this psuedo leader named alan woods??? Which is kinda lame as I really despise vanguardism. Is this a legit leftist group or some weird tankie cult?
The author of this paper was a member and was then kicked out of the IMT because of this, imo a very damning action since the paper accurately describes the organisations shortcomings when talking about china and to some extend AES in general.

I am a new socialist with my radicalisation starting roughly a year ago and my serious diving into theory and such only beginning a few months ago. I've repeatedly found my self on IMT websites and found their theory, analysis and articles, in general, to be very helpful and I'm now thinking of joining them (I'm based in England). Also, I was wondering if there is any requirement of membership dues? I'm 17 and income is tight so it would be a struggle making regular payments.

I have dabbled in working with a variety of radical socialist organisations such as People Before Profit and some trade unions. Recently I have felt pretty strongly the need to join a communist international, and after flicking through the different options these guys seem the soundest and their theory seems to line up pretty well with what I agree with. They also seem pretty open ended to different marxist tendencies so that's always a plus because I tend to prefer working with all kinds of marxists rather than conform to one set in stone faction
Anyway that's all after doing some reading on them and checking out their website, but before I go further I'd prefer to hear it from other opinions. Does anybody here know anything more about the IMT? Do you think they're worth the time?
If someone would be so kind, to explain these two organisation and their practical nature. What makes them different and the same?
I've read up on mainly one of the organisations; IMT, though find it difficult to understand what exactly they both try to be - and what they are. Critics of IMT claiming that it's pushing undemocratic democratic centralism, secrecy to the public, and clinging to old marxist tendencies rather than modern society. As I understand it, a large difference is also IMT's political entrism, whereas CWI aims influencing society through separate political parties and influence. As what makes them similar, well they're both marxist and believe they're both Trotskyist.
Is the only difference how they aim to influence society and spread socialism? Or are there ideological differences that I haven't seen yet? Anyway, I'd appreciate someone making it less confusing, and simpler...
Hello everyone.
The university I'm currently at has a marxist society, which I was interested in joining (to learn more about anti-capitalism in general). During the first meeting I found out that it's a branch of the IMT movement. I was wondering if I should still join it, or would being part of the IMT go against anarchist goals?
Any help would be much appreciated!
The guy is an enigma. I'm a Marxist-Leninist who's recently become entranced by the guy. He just has a way with words; I'm planning to incorporate some of his videos into the educational meetings I've been doing in my community.
So, I'm actually curious what his specific Marxist tendency is, especially considering that he released a video a couple months ago basically calling for a revolution (the guy usually tiptoes around the topic, so hearing him come this dangerously close to what the state considers acceptable discourse on the topic for somebody of his standing was pretty shocking; he must think the system is far closer to collapse than it appears to the public right now).
This is the video where he basically implies to his viewers that they should seriously be considering revolution, for reference (https://youtu.be/9BwnvnhL2m0).
In my mind, this pretty firmly rules him out of the reformist camp. I know he's not a de Leonist, a Stalinist, or a Maoist. I'm tempted to call him a leftcom or a Trotskyite, but that doesn't quite fit the bill either. Maybe he's a Marxist-Wolffist, or maybe he's like, an anarcho-Marxist (whatever the fuck that means)?
In any case, it doesn't matter; he's a Marxist, he uses the dialectical materialist method, he's an amazing introduction to socialism for people, and he's become far, far more militant since his retirement, especially in the almost two years since the pandemic began.
